I did this repair today and my one bolt had fallen out…..same spot as yours, but it was laying on top of the headliner, so I didn’t have to source a new one. Thanks for the tutorial!
Haha, that's awesome. It's amazing with all the g-forces you get when driving at that bolt but still sitting in the same spot both on yours and mine. 2 years since this fixed and mine is still rattle-free
Just finished. Followed your instructions to a T. All the creaks are gone!! The only struggle was reinstalling the b pillar and aligning the seat belt track. Your video gave me confidence to try this on my own. All in all about 2 hours taking my time not to snap anything
@@ExoticCarDIY 2nd day driving without the creaking. It’s too quiet! 😂😂
I had the same problem with my w212 E550. It’s a common problem with glass panoramic roofs. Dealer told me that the squeak and rattles in the roof was due to my 19” low profile wheels, LOL!! With the help of a friend I dropped the headliner and tightened the same screws with lock-tight as you did and solved the problem. Damn, I wish I had your video to use as reference at the time!! Great job my friend!! Keep up the great work!
You just illustrated another reason why I hate dealers lol... Those crazy excuses they give. Don't they know that most of these come with 19s from the factory? And how a wheel at all could make a roof rattle is beyond the realm of possibilities
When I mentioned that same fact, they said it’s because I lowered the car, LOL!! They just didn’t want to admit that they failed to put enough lock-tight on the screws and they tend to come loose over time.
Btw, the tan interior on your car is on point!
Just bought my e63 Amg 3 weeks ago and the creaking been driving me so nuts I almost didn’t want to drive it on occasions. Thank you for this video. I haven’t done the repair yet but I will this weekend.
Wow i thought only mine did that life savior video!!
same problem happened to my brand new Genesis G80, loose bolts! right and left sides, the dealer did what you said on video..its worked!
this is a common problem with this kind of sunroof, nowadays almost every luxury cars have this shit
That's crazy it's happening in other makes as well, glad you got it fixed
1 hour and 45 minutes saved me 6 hours at $250 an hour from the stealership. THANK YOU for the vid Kenney!!!! BTW I must say that when I was undoing the headliner it seemed like they had previously tried to tighten 2 bolts before because the tabs in the rear were already off. Also 2 of the screws had faint blue on them as if they lightly put thread locker on 2 of the 6 bolts. Again many thanks for this awesome step by step video!!
Thank you for this, going to tackle this weekend…just bought the car, I thought I was going to be screwed, Indy mechanic told me to spray silicone from the top through the glass gaps to try and fix! So grateful that I found your video!
Yeah silicone won't help this rattle. There's a 99.9% chance it is a loose or missing bolt. Pretty easy when you follow the vid
Mine started creaking about 6 months ago. I dealt with it till I couldn't stand it anymore. Your video was a life saver! Thanks. Took me about an hour and 15 minutes all the while drinking beer, and took a break to mow grass. A real shame that this happens. Again thank you
Thank You so much!
I have same car, and had same problem with this creapy noises. I was driving from one car mechanic to another. No one found the cause. Finally after Your movie I did it myself. Now its wonderful silence. It took me little over an hour. One more time thanks and God bless You.
Awesome, so much nicer to drive it without any rattles, right? Glad the video helped, thanks for watching, God bless
I just picked up a 15 e63s 7/8/23…. Your videos helped me a TON with purchase on what to look for. Thank you.
I have a rear deck rattle around the sub I’m gonna be tackling soon
Finally got around to taking care of this! Your video was very helpful. No more creaks and it only took a little over an hour. Thanks man!
Now I just need to find the creak in the front suspension. Only happens when moving slow and turning.
Congrats on fixing the headliner. Your front suspension squeak is most likely a failed driver side camber control arm bushing... Because every single one has this issue LOL. If you watch my, everything that's wrong with my new e63, video... I showed how I fixed mine. You can also replace it, there are part numbers in the description of that video
@@ExoticCarDIY I did watch the video and I actually checked that control arm when I did the oil change in fall and it looked ok. But the noise started sometime after that so that’s probably what it is. I’ll be checking that first. Thanks!
Just did my car. W212. Thanks for the how to guide, it made all the difference. Cheers!
That suede on e63 looks nice 😍
The more suspension work I've done, the less creaks! 😂 Still w/ fully sorted suspension, that roof! Mine is a non AMG C207 chassis, so rear deck is just as bad. Great vid! Slightly different on my chassis, but good enough to get an idea!
Tackled this today! Not too bad. Loctite on everything and the creak is gone! I was also having an issue with the rear sunshade. It would get stuck closed. It looked like it was getting hung up on the headliner. To test the theory, I pulled down on the rear corners of the headliner to snap those areas out of place and leave them a little lower to provide the shade more clearance. It worked! Shade opens and closes perfectly now. Kind of weird but it works.
Great job man!
Yeah, that was a huge prayer to get that done, having it sound like that while you're driving just makes the car feel cheap. So nice once it's fixed
Mine recently started and it’s been driving me crazy. I can’t wait to apply this fix good video. Thank u great content
@@ExoticCarDIY Yes all your videos are well put together and super helpful 100%
Thanks my man! I have the same car and had the same rattles - really appreciate the guidance mate, oh and the cam sensors! I owe you for that one too! Cheers bro
Appreciate the video! This process worked on my 2019 C43. Broke two clips :( but still beats dealing with Mercedes. My car had two screws missing.
Sweet! Glad it works for other models. Crazy how MB still can't seem to tighten those bolts correctly lol
Amazing video 👍🏻
Hi.Thanks for this great video. I’m going to try to fix my E350 as well. What size bolts would I need to buy and where can I buy them so I can have them handy if mine are missing? Thanks!
I have this creaking sound in my 2015 e63 wagon, sounds like it’s from the driver’s side b pillar. I will try to see if it’s the same problem. Thanks so much for the video!
Awesome video! Keep up with the repairs, how about a transmission fluid flush?
Man, when I did the flush on my 722.9, it literally felt like a brand new car. Smooth is an understatement. The shifts were imperceptible aside from engine noise & the tach.
I wish they sold these in North America without any roof holes. Nice video.
It's rare, but I've seen a few of these options without the panoramic roof and just a regular sunroof. In theory they would not have that piece that has the bolts come loose
I got Fed up with my e250 and finally fixed the rattle this weekend only took about an hour
@@ExoticCarDIY makes a world of difference it’s so silent in there now. Car just feels better beyond worth it!
Youre a life saver. Now I know where the damn creaking is coming from! Also, does your E63 have that "whistling" sound coming from the front grill when driving freeway speeds?
That rattle is so aggravating, I'm glad it's finally fixed. Hope you get yours taken care of soon. No, I don't have any whistles that I've noticed yet.
I have the same whistling noise in the front. I still don’t know where it’s coming from
Mine is creaking as well. I am not handy at all so will need to get a shop to do this for me. How many hours should I expect it to get this done since the shops charge by the hour? Thx this is a great vlog as this seems quite common for Panoramic roofs.
I'm not sure, most shops might assume you have to take the entire headliner out thus they would charge you accordingly.
Pray for me. I will do this today on my beloved E550
I did mine this morning on my 2011 W212. It took about 3hours. Creaks are gone! Many thanks for the video!
My E63 rattles and creaks so much, mainly from the rear center vents, and when the bass hits, i get a terrible rattle from the rear deck.
Yeah, that sucks. Now that I fix the headliner, mine is completely quiet I'm very happy
Hello! I would like to ask, E63S M157, I want to buy it for daily use, but I don't know if there will be many problems, will the fuel consumption be very fuel consumption?
Be sure to check out my other videos, we're addressed many of the common issues on these things. In general, the 14s and up are very reliable. Fuel is going to be dependent on your right foot. But expect between 18 and 23 average
Mine only does on extreme incline. Is it worth doing? Doesn’t sound as bad as yours did.
Also, getting an annoying creak/rattle from the gauge cluster or somewhere in front of me. Getting really annoyed every time I drive. Can’t figure it out😡
Yeah rattles suck. If it only does it on inclines, you probably can hold off a little bit, but eventually you will have to tighten those back up. As for the other rattles, sometimes it helps just to have somebody else drive while you crawl around to find it LOL. Luckily, mine is completely quiet
Did you find the missing screw anywhere when you had the head liner down? Have a great day.
Yeah, it actually fell out of the headliner when I was removing it. Lucky I guess
I have a rattle at certain RPMs from the driver’s door, maybe near the handle but not sure. Also drives me a bit nuts. It’s hard to diagnose because it isn’t there every day either 😅
But threadlocker is an amazing product, it’s a shame more people don’t know about it. Even the guys in the hardware shop where I buy it don’t know what it’s for! 😂
Yes, threadlocker is a must. So glad I got this addressed on my car, much nicer driving it with no rattles
@@ExoticCarDIY Separate question Kenny but have you done a video or do you know how to enable the cameras at any speed? I think on mine they switch off at 10mph or something 'for safety'
@@paul_k_7351 that is one thing I researching, I haven't found the setting yet but I'm looking
Anybody try this on an E63 wagon yet? Relatively same procedure for headliner?
About to tackle this. Anyone know what the dimensions of the screws are? incase I have one missing id like to get a few
I have a few extras, I'll try to figure out what they are. I'm pretty sure they are likely an M8 fine thread flange head about a half inch long
Bro if you don't mind can you please list the tools you need. I need to make a run to pick them up, I'm back at my folks house
I go over the tools at about 00:58 seconds on the video.
Pretty basic, couple things to pry with, maybe a seven, eight, 10 mm quarter in socket, and a t30 torx
If so many people are having this problem with the panoramic sunroof. (Including myself) why isn’t Mercedes recalling this issue?
Unfortunately, recalls are only done for safety items, not rattles or other failures.
Good news is, easy fix
So i have a question why you didnt have a screw there and why they are not tight?! is this factory problem or it gets loose over time?! my car cracks when its uneven pavement , like when entering palazas or angled driveways but no rattle or cracking during driving. When i heard this cracking first i thought it was glass noise because of temperature difference, now after i saw this video im not sure maybe related to those screws ?!
The screws are installed loose, with either no, or poor loctite. They just back out over time. Mine were all loose, and one was totally missing.
@@ExoticCarDIY thanks if the sounds get worse i definitely follow your video guide! Also question having a parking button problem atm, shifter glitches as soon as i press the P button is this a common issue on w212 MB?! I read some posts about it lot of people having parking button problem.
Wow mine does the same thing, it's an E550.
How many hours would you say this should take from a tech?
I would say 2 hours would be fair, but I have a feeling that they charge you three to four?
@@ExoticCarDIY honestly if they have the magic touch that is needed with snapping delicate panels, I'd say it's worth the 4 hours.
I was looking at buying a used S class but has the same pano roof and I was like nope!
Haha yep, at least it's an easy fix. According to the comments, several other people have reported other brands like BMW and Hyundai with the same issue
I just finished, followed instructions and viola, 3 out of 4 were loose. I can't wait to put it back together and drive it. Thank you very much for everything you do for our community ❤❤❤
Great job! It's going to be so much more enjoyable to drive now
