I discovered Virtual Railfan last year during the pandemic, and in the process discovered La Plata. I have thoroughly enjoyed watching the trains there. Thank you for the 3 videos about it. Definitely makes me want to visit and it isn't that far as I am in Liberty, MO, on the northeast side of Kansas City.

Thank you kindly, Dennis. I’m glad you enjoyed them, and also appreciative of you stopping by here to make comments. That series last 23 episodes. It was quite an epic trip this past Autumn.
This coming Saturday, episode five of seven of our Western USA series airs.
      Thank you again for watching!

I'm overseas and have gotten to know the station and town quite well thanks to your webcam.
I see (is it) Bob every day, seeing off the 9.45 to Chicago and the 19.45 to the West Coast.
I was curious about what I thought were pixies getting on and off the train!!!
Now I know all about whom they are.
I've never seen passenger trains shunted to let in other passengers further down the train.
We would make the platform longer.

We did have a great time. Wanda is correct that it is a rather slow-paced way of life- definitely not New York City. Plenty of opportunities to just chill and watch trains.

Looks like the lookout is on a former rail line bridge. Information on that would have been interesting.
Be cool if that lookout was a bar! A little history on the railroad itself might have been helpful.
You said population of the town is about 9,000, but online sites report about 1,200 population.
Anyway, looks like a peaceful little town with a lot of bright red buildings, for some reason.

    • @InnocentsAbroad
      @InnocentsAbroad  6 місяців тому

History on the old railroad wouldn’t necessarily have made for interesting storytelling when the focal point arguably is La Plata station. It is a good suggestion, though.
You are correct about the population, however, I’m thinking you did not read the disclaimer in the item description, where that correction was already annotated 😂

@@InnocentsAbroad True, I did not see the population note.
I was just wondering about the RR. I think this line was originally Santa Fe (merged into BNSF in '96), but there are so many MP signs and references in the Depot Hotel, it made me question that. And what line was that bridge where the lookout sits? Maybe that was MP? And where did it go? RR archeology is interesting, I think.

Greetings from Montevideo (Uruguay) on the banks of the Rio de la Plata/River Plate. As an old 'trainspotter' from England, I like to catch a few trains a day on the viewcam. The old steam traction was more interesting, hope to see a 'real' loco at La Plata some day, but I enjoy waiting for Amtrack's Southern Chief now and again. La Plata looks like my kind of place.
