Phyllis was everything. Beautiful woman and extraordinary voice! So sad she took her own life.
I remember when I first heard about it. I was listening to the radio.
R.I.P. Phyllis Hyman. Raw talent gone too soon. She died due to feeling unappreciated as an artist. Also, R.I.P. to the legendary James Mtume, the producer of this track and many others of that era. He recently passed away.
Sad news great vocalist and a phenomenal producer musician J Mtume
Um, she died because she had mismanaged bipolar disorder.
She was bipolar and suffered from depression.
@@cavitta934 Yeah, it’s unfortunate. Kinda like how Donny Hathaway was a paranoid schizophrenic
@@brynneholt1990 Right, but what I was referring to was the suicide note she left. It basically said she was tired of not being appreciated as an artist…something along those lines.
My sister in the 6-ft society! She and I were in Ebony in 1979 in an article about tall women. Also check out her duets with Michael Henderson, who passed recently, We Both Need Each Other and Can't We Fall In Love Again. I met her at a surprise birthday party for her a few years before she died. My absolute favorite!
Yes tall girls rule!!! I'm 5'10" and one of my daughters' is 6'1'!
The lovely and talented Phyllis Hyman. "Living All Alone" was a favorite of mine. Very emotional and showed all the nuances of her voice...
The live version
That was my favorite
I love that song, so beautiful when she is actually whistling.
Living all alone is another classic by her ❤️❤️❤️
She seemingly had it all: great beauty and an unbelievable voice. I've always preferred her ballads. Such a sad loss.
This came up on shuffle for me this weekend. You HAVE to listen to "Living All Alone", "Old Friend", & "Meet Me On The Moon". R.I.P. to Phyllis. Always lived her, even as a young girl.
R&B guys. She was beautiful, had a beautiful voice. I saw her in a club in NYC back in the day. Great performance. She was also in the Broadway production of Sophisticated Ladies. She was wonderful. Gone wayyy too soon. Her rendition of Betcha by Golly Wow is 🔥. Check that one out too Thanks for the reaction.
That was a blend with disco....
My Pittsburgh home girl. So talented. I hope she is resting in peace.
My girl Phyllis seen her also in Detroit once... She gave a great concert.. gone way too soon but never forgotten yesss
Finally someone played her!!! I listen to this song all the time its always been one of my all time favorites. :)

One of my favorite artists of all time. Gone way too soon.
She was a real talent. Time for Natalie Cole "I've Got Love on My Mind" 🙂 . R.I. P. to both of those song birds 🕊🤍💫.
Both one of a kind. Both greatly missed.
This was my favorite song by Phyllis. Saw her in 77 with Al Jarreau. Al was at the top as a performer but Phyllis hung in there with him. She was outstanding that night!
That was the sultry smooth R&B days She was Great that's how we should all remember her💐💐💐
Songs from Phyllis Hyman # Living All Alone and # The Answer is You
Phyllis Hyman sang from her soul. One of the most underrated singers from the 1970-1980 period. Phyllis had this deep register that told her story of despair. She was suffering from depression. What I totally understood was the way she could cry while she sang the song. She was a powerful singer that could take you to the rafters. Gone much too soon.
This is definitely one of my all-time favorite songs partially because my dad used to be a DJ back in the 90s he played songs like this and Stephanie Mills,
Etc and also partially because this was the song that broke me out of my shell on stage!
The first time I performed this with my band. Oh my gosh the energy the feeling unbelievable!
You guys should listen to Phyllis Hyman's song, "Living All Alone." The vocals are crazy!!!! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
My all time favorite album by her!!
She was incredible got a chance to see her in concert in the late 80’s.

The Answer Is You is my JAM!!!. Every time she came to Chicago I was front n center. When she kicked her shoes off, it was about to go down. I was heartbroken when she died.
I Love her. Smh. Incredible talent.
She has a gorgeous voice
Phyllis was total talent and total class. Lucky time to have grown up in this era, especially for those of us who love to dance. Also check out her song "When You Get Right Down To It." Slower beat--sultry and soulful. Her voice is amazing.
Love that song!!
This the jam right here!
My all-time favorite singer! Her voice was effortless! I was a little girl when this song came out and she has been my #1 since then. What a beautiful voice, what a beautiful lady. She also did a magnificent version of "Betcha By Golly Wow," originally by the Stylistics. It was featured on a Norman Connors album (because it was his group), but Ms. Hyman performed the lead vocal.

My name is Irena Lloyd from Kansas city Missouri.
Yes Mikkl is fire 🔥🔥🔥💥... Saw her perform in Dallas at a club called Dallas Dreams. Awesome performance, just a couple of songs you know the club scene but she gave a great performance...
The sad story of one of my favorite singers of that era, the beautiful Lady Phyllis Hyman. She had other hits, but try her version of "It Don't Mean A Thing If It Ain't Got That Swing" from the Broadway musical she was in "Sophisticated Ladies".
Phyllis!! 💜💜
What a beautiful and legendary lady and talent. She was a brilliant singer! RIP PHYLIS AND MTUME… Please review “ I Don’t Wanna Lose You” by her..
Big soul track in the UK aswell what a voice, would shatter glass
Y'all didn't hear the entire song. She holds one of the longest notes a singer has ever held. "Your loss."
I remember when she came out I love Phyllis Hyman she was beautiful ❤️I Loved her song Living All Alone too. Amazing voice. ❤️
