A lot of my older relatives (65 plus) just upgraded to this from iphone 6-8 one word: home button. Older people seem to prefer physical buttons. And apple made it identical to the 7-8 form factor so the same cases and accessories work perfectly. This product isn’t for you or me or most techies or young people, but there is a market for this product. Apple of all companies would never have made this product if there wasn’t enough demand for it.
Another potential demographic would be children imo. If my child is about to start school and everyone in the family has iPhones, it makes sense for me to buy the SE for him/her. The phone offers basically all of the important functionalities of the Apple ecosystem, while it's not going to break the bank, and even if the child breaks/ loses the phone, it wouldn't be a massive hit either to buy a new SE. Of course, plenty of other kids would have iPhones as well (albeit maybe not necesarrily the SE), so the child wouldn't feel "left out" of the Apple party lol. Apple definitely knew what they were doing with this phone, but I absolutely get why tech geeks are fuming.
@@MrBuckethead911 I use an iphone SE 2016 that's actually the perfect phone for kids due to the form factor. They just need to upgrade the chip to at least an a12
Also, size is a factor. My mother wanted to upgrade from her tiny galaxy s7 and it was impossible to find a decent small phone. The closest thing was the pixel but battery life is an issue
The studio keeps looking cooler
Ever notice it looks very similar to Bruce Wayne's secret lab... Waiting to see a Batmobile Tumbler in the background any day now.
I just bought one 2 weeks ago. “Upgraded” from the 8+. I love it so far. The reason why they made this phone only 2 years after the se 2020 is because of 5G. The phone carriers wanted Apple to make an entry level phone that’s 5G compatible. I’m surprised this hasn’t been mentioned in these reviews.
I agree it’s the 5G plus it’s a great example to explain why the new phones got a little thicker after that form factor change.
Yeah well at the end of the day they should've used the XR for the new SE. 5G is not going to be that important on the little phone. LTE works just fine so you'd be better getting a used 11 Pro, 11, XR, XS, X. 3 of those have OLED displays. All would be less expensive. All are fully supported.
04:10 I died a little bit inside when Lew said nostalgia while I still have my iPhone 7 plus from 6 years ago 😅
Nothing wrong with that. I still got my original iPhone, my iPhone 4s, my iPhone 5c, my iPhone 7+, my iPhone X, and I’m currently using my iPhone 12 Pro. Whenever someone I know needs a temporary phone I boot up one of my other ones and give it to them. They’re still “current” technology. Not brand new, but not old either!
Lou I've been watching you since I was like 11 years old, when the studio was just you, a table, and a black background. It's been really cool watching this channel grow up with me. Thank you for being such an inspiration ♥️
This device is great for business. I’m a mobile device manager for my organisation and its a fantastic option that allows us to easily configure good devices whilst keeping costs down. It would be a bad move for us if they discontinue this device.
@@stargasior I work in an IT department and all the technicians have iPhone SEs (2020 model) for this exact reason. Excellent business phones that are compatible with Apple Business Manager.
I agree, as I don't own a massive business I do know that texting clients and them getting that green bubble definitely makes a statement. If I was in a scenario were I would distribute work phones and the SE didn't exist, id have to do androids cause there is no way I could afford to do $800 per employee
@llyod: you are just giving bad phones. Just cause you have to give them. Just give them the allowance to buy a phone and let them have a good phone instead of making their lives hard.
I think a lot of companies (like mine!) buy the iphone SE as work phones for their employees as its the cheapest iphone all while having good internals (which means it will last longer)

@@ChillydontCap I was addressing work phones. Not updates or patches. I have a galaxy s20 fe. Paid 350 for it off ebay.
I work in telecom retail and we see there’s still enough interest in iPhones like the SE and mini variants. Some people still really value the form factor with TouchID and don’t want a whole new design without a home button and the whole swiping up to get to home or recents. Now I think everyone can get used to those features but people like what they like, and the SE is well liked
I just got the 11 pro max 256 gb for $450 I will not waste money on any "new" iPhone ever
@BenBenson I’ve always been interested in it honestly. I’m 21 years old now and I vividly remember being excited about the OnePlus one lol. It’s mainly service as I work in retail but I still like to keep up with the latest and talk about it with customers and colleagues. It’s different than I expected but I like it a lot. I’m also only doing it parttime as I’m still in college
I’ve watched tech reviews for years and the bigggest takeaway I had to realize is that the reviewer and the viewer live in two different worlds and even though a certain product might not work for their lifestyle doesn’t mean it won’t work for me and my lifestyle . So thank you Unbox Therapy for always keeping it real with us.
I agree with you on that one ! I honestly love his approach when it comes to tech reviews ! I am genuinely learning from watching his videos so that I can apply some of them over on my tech channel :)

Yuuuup. He didn’t always sound like this but he just sounds like he got accustomed to having money. I ain’t getting an SE so I can brag about the M1 chip; I ain’t tryna brag. I’m broke, this thing is powerful, better than the Chinese phones imo, and will last for hopefully the next ten years thanks to the chip. @@davidjackson6817 he’s not forgetting or it’s because he has money. The point is, it’s the same damn phone since the iPhone 8 in 2017(?) and they now charge more for it and didn’t really upgrade anything. Sure, leave the home button, but maybe put in a 1080 p display with Oled or put fingerprint on power button and give a new all screen phone, like a phone sized iPad Air. It can still be a budget phone with lower res display and no Face ID, but upgrade something at least. They’ve been making the same phone for over 5 years, and the price went up! It should be $300 at this point then!
We got my mom an SE like 2years ago because she still had like an iPhone 6 and was refusing to upgrade, so we got the phone with the closest form factor with updated internals

The SE is a great option for someone who doesn’t want to pay a lot but wants a fast and updated phone.
I bought the se3 as a slight upgrade to my se2 that recently started having trouble charging. I am not fond of the bezels, but love the touch id. The battery, 5G, (better speakers?), and processor make this phone sing in comparison to its predecessor. No overheating, no screen dimming, and it’s just a pleasure. Oh yeah, I’m 31 and don’t feel like I’m missing out with this phone
What's great about touch id? Its a fingerprint scanner and a home button. Whats great about it?
@@skeennah1927 also my iPad Air 3 has touch ID. You obviously have 0 reasons.
The Porsche in the studio looks so dope
I’ve been using the “cheap” iPhones for years and was planning to upgrade to the new SE… but I was honestly expecting them to change to the XR form factor or something like that. Instead, they kept the old design and still increased the price. I guess I’m holding onto my current phone for a while longer.
upgraded last year from the 6s. Same size phone... much better camera and processor. No real need for anything more. If you're watching movies and stuff that requires a big screen... get a tablet or even better yet, just use your huge tv or computer.
I personally believe it's wise of apple to keep the SE for children, the elderly, less tech savvy, or ones who've switched from Android to Apple for the first time.
I’ve got an SE (2022) as a work phone, and I quite like it’s simplicity and small form factor - especially considering my personal phone is a much bulkier 13 Pro. It’s definitely best suited as a work/secondary phone, or a reliable and robust entry level iPhone.
Watching this on my SE 2022! So far I really like it and it’s very fast and reliable. I’ve been using $200 androids for awhile and a little bump in budget does a lot for me
Man if you got yourself an A53 it would be better than se in all ways except for the processor .
I went over to ios with the SE3 for the following reasons: I use my phone for text and calls as well as listening to music. My old android was running out of memory and after 5 years it was getting juddery . I did not need the aggravation of learning new gestures and it buttery smooth, with good battery life of 60 per cent by the end of the day. That are real word figures when taking calls, listening to music and checking social media. I went from having 16 gig of memory on my Nokia (and having to delete apps when essential apps would not download due to lack of memory) to having 104 gig left on the iPhone after loading apps and adding 400 songs on I tunes! It is a pocket rocket!
Can we just take a step back and appreciate the background music that's playing.
it's just so calming and incredible, I love it.
Sells extremely well in Japan.
I personally really like it.
My dad who’s in his mid 70s had an old iPhone 5 which he stubbornly held on to despite it starting to give up the ghost. Eventually managed to get him in to an SE and he loves it. Definitely wouldn’t have been able to get to grips with a 12/13. It’s perfect for him.
Got my dad an SE. He had a 7 before and liked the size and form factor. He’s appreciating having 5G now too.
I want the mini to hang around 🤷🏻♂️ or have a Bezel-less SE screen with the lock button on the side & Touch ID built into it. Lost opportunity Apple.
It's cool that you get a flagship processor in a budget option, but this form factor sucks! Even most budget phones have minimal bezels and OLED screens
I just got the 11 pro max 256 gb for $450 I will not waste money on any "new" iPhone ever
I love the mini too, battery life has been fine for me and the size is perfect
The SE is for me. I currently have the 2020 model and it's still going strong. I've always liked the style and form factor, especially the home button and Touch ID.
Yeah, the battery life is not great, but that's why I have a fast charger. It usually makes it through a whole day of work, then I just charge it when I get home and it's good to go.
I would even consider myself a power user. While at work, I use it to assist customers with product information. While at home, I game on it, watch videos, listen to music, I shoot and edit 4K videos/photos on it, I do graphic design and photoshop stuff on it as well.
I feel no desire to upgrade to a flagship model. This phone does everything I need it to do in a form factor I love. The only thing I'm thinking about doing is upgrading to the new 2022 SE, but my current SE still has plenty of life left so I'm not ready to make that jump quite yet.
I really enjoy my SE. I’m glad I can be in the Apple ecosystem and not have to worry about paying so much. I also enjoy the Touch ID over Face ID.
My dad loves this iPhone. He gets to have a “new phone” but gets the look and functionality of an old iPhone. He still gets Touch ID and loves the home button. There are people out there that still love iPhones that look like this.
To be honest, I thought the SE 2022 would have had the form factor of the iPhone XR. That would have at least felt a little more modern with a larger screen to body ratio, and better battery life.
@Carl Gunderson I also see your point. There are still Apple users using the 6, 7, and 8 and are more familiar with this form factor. A majority still prefer Touch ID over face unlock. Not to mention, if those users were to upgrade to the SE, they too would be saving money from buying accessories that already fit like a case
the fact that they can still sell a phone in 2022 with that bezel is insane
They do the basics well, so they can. Also, Face ID with mask doesn’t work which makes me wish there was a fingerprint reader.
I like your videos.
I have 2 questions.
What camera do you use for recording?
What kinda lighting is used for your studio?
For me, it actually does great as a work phone ... small, does all the necessary, fingerprint sensor allows me to unlock apps without having to pick up the phone off the desk. I have been using the iPhone 7 for 6 years and still runs perfect. I will upgrade to the SE when it gives up the ghost or runs out of security updates. For reference, my personal phone(s), I have 13pro and a Galaxy Note 10.
@@JBENikeshGajbhiye I had 5 in highschool don't ask why lol I have 2rn just cause I don't wanna break my main phone while working

basically 430€ for an useless phone you use just for another sim and exists there.. ofc you dont care about battery or whatever, it just needs to exist, be small and last a lot
My dad loves his SE he was still on the 5c. I think these are very popular for older population especially those that are comfortable with older form factors.
This phone was made for someone like me. I only use my iPhone for texting, reading and sending emails and listening to some music. I currently have an iPhone 11 and I love it, but knowing there’s something smaller with a better processor like the new SE, seems so tempting.
It just seems silly to use this old school form factor when pretty much all other budget phones these days have large displays with minimal bezels, often with OLED screens. I can appreciate that you're getting a flagship processor in a budget phone, but this form factor is a deal breaker for me
I really really like the touch button and I actually like having a square screen. It’d be nice to have a slightly bigger screen with the same form factor but I don’t really care. I actually agree with the review-the worst thing about this phone is the battery.
They should have done a redesign (make it look like a iPhone sized iPad mini or iPad Air), with a glass back, maybe a mini led display, or oled, and made an SE and SE+
Nice edit with the added background music, it masks the amount of cuts well. I need to try that, thanks!
This would probably be a good company phone. It's cheap and capable. With the Apple-ecosystem you can perfectly set-up a corporate infrastructure, and for employees it doesn't have enough battery life to play games with it while at work :P
I'm a sucker for nostalgia. I play retro games and arcade games still. The SE is right up my alley because my first Iphone was a 3GS all the way to the 6s. I don't mind the design language of home button and top and bottom bezels. Also I prefer touch ID, just ordered the 256GB model and can't wait for it to come in.
I think iPhone SE appeals more to business owners who need to give their staff company phones. a cheap reliable phone that will most likely last twice as long as the android equivalent
Nonsense i literally do this for a living, androids have no problem keeping with the warranty lifecycle of a business.
Androids don't last longer?? Where the hell that came from?? Open your eyes dude
Depends. I have been working as system administrator for a medium sized company with around 150 ppl. While yes, the iPhone lasts longer android devices are way cheaper. You can get a Samsung under 200 with four years of security updates. It's good enough for emails and calls. It comes down to the existing ecosystem, prestige and prefernce of the decision makers, like management.
I argue that the iPhone SE is aimed at families, especially children (and seniors) where the parents are already in the ecosystem. In order for these customers not to go to Android because it is so much cheaper, the SE comes in very handy in the mid-price range with the advantages of the already used ecosystem (Find-My, iMessage, Family Share,...).
No it won't last twice as long as Android, Android might not get OS updates but the older Android versions remain compatible for many years.
For example an iPhone 6 I own is worthless now as it doesn't even support apps like Adobe scan for scanning documents or even Netflix!!! Many of the necessary apps aren't compatible anymore as they need iOS 13 minimum while Android phones still support much more like my galaxy S3 (not that it is worth using Today either but is
definitely better than the iPhone 6 and has a bigger display too)
PS The galaxy S3 released a whole 2 years before iPhone 6 too!

yeah thats my dream setup ! that car behind him is just beautiful to say the least ! Despite the associated upgrades with this phone.... I just wish it came at a cheaper price point because its just ridiculous for the price they are asking for. I literally got this phone as a backup for when I'm travelling making youtube videos. I finally moved on from the 8 to the 13 Mini. I liked the 13 but I have pockets but 6.1” is still a large phone screen in reality and just tips the phone in to uncomfortable. The Mini is hand and pocket friendly. And battery life is also stupidly good.
Sounds like the perfect phone for my mom, who's still on her iPhone 7 since its release. 🤦♂️
Ever since i found this channe ive been binging all your videos, Cant wait to watch as many as possible!

I got the 64GB option which was the cheapest and I currently use it as backup phone when I'm travelling. I made a review video on it over on my channel if you want to check it out:)
I use the Pro Max as my main phone and the new SE as a secondary. I love it! Reminds me of my old iPhone 8!

Using the 2020 version for almost a year now, and I love this phone. And I'm not 'not tech enthusiast' as everybody's trying to push this phone into certain non-techie 'target' audience.
I used flagship phones for 10 years, and it's a breath of fresh air to use something that's not pulling you to the ground when you put it in your pocket. Also uber practical to use with one hand. Also handles everything you throw at it with no sweat at all. I see my friend's phones with 8 gigs of ram struggling to compete with speed of this little fella. And yeah for design this old, it looks beatiful still.
I'm using the 2020 SE as well.
nothing negative to say about it... at all
Never expected one of the most honest reviews of the SE to come from Lew honestly, especially with his history with Apple
is the hoodie available online?
It’s the perfect device parents should offer their children. Though archaic, the chosen technologies should make it easier for kids to typically fix their iPhones if they haven’t lost them already. As a sustainable entity following a growing recycling mission, Apple is still standing by its brand philosophy, so those buyers will have to figure out getting protective solutions by themselves during that shopping spree.
I feel like this whole phone could've been saved by swapping the ideology behind the screen-battery-CPU relationship. They should've knocked down the cpu to a couple gens ago, upped the screen to at least a low-tier OLED/AMOLED, and bulked up the back a tiny smidge for a good battery. That way you get less power draw from the CPU (which as is seems honestly like a handicap on this phone more than a selling point) and screen while still providing a great, long-lasting media device that supports 5g for less than 500-600 USD. But the way it is, I feel like this was complete miss and should be priced at like $300.
you do know that new bionic chips just isnt for power it is miles ahead of previous generations in terms of battery and camera . just wqtch the previous se and this se battery test both same body and same battery but the new chip is way more efficient the newer se get a hour more battery and better cameras
I know my dad (72 years old) loves this. He doesn’t want to learn any of the new features and is happy with just the TouchID. He also raves about the small form factor. He said: “Before the iPhone, all phones were trying to fit as much as possible into small form factors. Remember Motorola Razr, Nokia 8850, etc. but now everyone seems to want the largest form factor. Weird. “
Apple still releasing the same old model with some tweaks is comparative to Lew stretching the iPhone SE video for this long.😆😆

no they wont people think apple care about consumer its bullshit they wont do something which is actually beneficial for consumer they are just selling their old unsold iphones with an upgrade but in case of laptops they know their new ones would just seem pricey to everyone because it ll be unreasonable to buy the new ones at such an expensive rate when you can buy the same with some laptop bezels.

Such a relaxing video. I love this phone because it reminds me of my first iPhone which was the 6s. Such nostalgia. If only the battery was 30% better.
Honestly I’d only recommend it to whoever wants apple’s services or to be in the iPhone environment without having the money to buy a top tier model. Apple is so smart and so good at what they do that even my 78 year old grandfather was able to intuitively learn to use the new interface with Face ID models.
So this phone for me is for people who either aren’t good with tech and they want a phone that’ll last and the ease of use of Apple, or for people who wanna “belong” with Apple and the cool kids but don’t have money to spare on the better models
My 81yo mom uses an iPhone 13 Pro and has no issues with it. My late father who was 93, however, had no use for technology newer than 1999 or so.
My mother got one, as her first iPhone. She loves it, because the size makes it a lot more ergonomic than the galaxy A70 that she upgraded from. The only major drawback from this device (apart from the screen to body ratio), would be the short battery life.
If I were to recommend this device, I'd recommend it to to older people, people with small hands, and people that are between 13 and 16 years old (if you're willing to spend that much on a phone for a kid) to include them within the parents' apple ecosystem.

I'm what you called the iPhone SE audience. I got the 2020 SE even though my budget can get me on the new generation of iPhones, but I willingly choose it because I just love the screen ratio, the portability, and of course, the home button. Regarding the single camera, I personally never use the other cameras so I'm glad that it still goes with this design, that's besides that I think it looks really cool.

A lot of people including myself only choose the SE because it has Touch ID, which sometimes can be much more convenient than Face ID.
Plus overall it's faster to use the home button to switch apps, use Siri, and take screenshots. Overall it just feels faster to navigate with the home button rather than gestures which I've also tried.
The audience is companies who offer their employees handset. This is the best deal out there because it keeps the performance and updates for 5-6 years.

you dont have to be an apple fan to love this product... This is PURE minimalism when it comes to smart phone.
If anyone is crying about this phone, I’m still using a 6 from 2014 and I ain’t complaining so stop fricking crying
This device is for my wife. She is still rocking the original SE. Got no storage, battery last 3/4 a day but she doesn't want a big phone and won't let me buy her a Mini variant.
everything on the se can be done with one hand and one finger with your phone in the upright position..i still prefer them go back to the squared/metal side style..battery life🤔..turn on battery saver
This guy is making his studio cooler and cooler in every video 📸
Your video changed a lot. I liked your old videos and your excitement in those days
128GB and $399 should have been the baseline. Would have been an easier sell.
theres an older crowd needing home button for accessibility + big display for readability, hope apple can release a model accommodating this
Did you just “Dua Lipa in naming the colors of the iPhone? LMFAO
I have an iPhone se 2020 and I love it. I think what they’re not realizing is the people who like and own this line of phones are the most pragmatic of Apple fans and they usually won’t upgrade unless necessary. I would only consider upgrading if they offered this phone with usb c and I’d be sold if they offered a 3.5mm jack as well. It is a great product but I have a working phone that’s nearly identical.
This SE gen 3 would had been for me... if it hadn't been for the fact that there's still no Blue colour option... and the huge bezels... and it still has a 60hz LCD display... and, AND, dealing with the battery life of my SE gen 2 for the last 2 year wasn't great, with all the new app/game that NEED more battery than in the past.
I switched to the BLUE 13 mini and the battery already last so much longer, it's great... but I really despise the god damn FaceID, I really wish they had added TouchID back in some way this year like they did with the iPad.
For me it’s not old school. It’s a smart way of keeping the iPhone old design to become user friendly, especially for those who still using that variant and design until now. It is still good for 2022. And Apple just knew what their customer’s wants and needs. They’re not just thinking for the design but mostly for the customer’s satisfaction.
Knowing how to change iPhone batteries has been my saving grace with owning SEs for the past 5 years
yeah that really comes in clutch. Their batteries are just terrible ! I ended up getting the starlight iPhone SE and I personally think its not the best for the price they are asking for. I got the 64GB option which was the cheapest and I currently use it as backup phone when I'm travelling. I made a review video on it over on my channel if you want to check it out:)
I’ve worked at T-Mobile and I now work at Xfinity and part of my job is selling Xfinity Mobile.
While I have seen a transition to people of all ages being more interested in the bigger and more premium phones, there is still that very real and loyal market of people that just want simplicity. Mostly the middle-aged to elderly folks, unsurprisingly. They’ve maybe already got an older model iPhone and don’t want to learn something new or maybe they don’t want a different form factor to get used to or maybe they don’t want to have to worry about swiping around to navigate their phone. All of these things are burdens on these people that just want to have their phone work how it always has and get on with their lives. Their phone is nowhere near the center of their lives, they worry about other things.
These are the people that love the iPhone SE, and with it being more efficient and having 5G this time around, it’s still a decent upgrade for these people and as simple as can be. To us it may seem crazy but this is what these customers want. They don’t care about premium in a phone, it doesn’t make sense to them.
Who would you recommend an iPhone SE to?
My dog
My Grandma :)
me
your mom (not joking, some older people might actually prefer a simpler phone)
