Man...we need interviewing skills like this in hip hop right now!!! Only combat jack can get a person like Eric B (who never does interviews) to speak like this.
great interview, I look at Eric B in a more positive light, I'm 44 yrs old and always thought the tension between him and Rakim was because of him,I understand it's 2 sides to every story but he was authentic for the whole 2 hours in my opinion,REAL SHIT!! Great interview
I never knew Eric B was so articulate and I "Bought" all of their "tapes" back in the day and re bought them when cd's dropped. Rakim is definitely one of the best to ever bless the mic.
Love Freddie Foxxx but im glad he was busy that day and wasnt home .... good chance only a handful of close people would of known how nice Rakim Allah was/ is
Rakim was ask in an interview about Self Destruction & replied he couldn’t understand why KRS didn’t reach out. Here Eric B says they him & Ra turned it down....wowww! Wonder if Ra knows that?
+CanvassBlack Eric paid for the producing so he can claim all the credit for producing, and not only that his production were very good back in the days
I think both of them are living good. they broke up because won had a vision on being bigger and watching his money grow while the other just want to be a rhymer. so that's the case in my eyes. Eric be wanted to keep the bread stackin and RA just was satisfied with rhyming. im sure doc dre felt Eric B pain too. cause we are still waiting on the aftermath joint lol.
@@brolickscholar3083Not only that but Eric B and Rakim had 3 more albums on their contract and Eric went to the label and asked them can they do 2 solo albums, one solo from Eric B and one solo from Rakim and then they was supposed to comeback together and for the third album on their contract. Rakim had to sign a release on Eric B album and then when it was time for Eric B to sign his release for Rakim solo album, Eric B was nowhere to be found. And that's when it got crazy for Rakim. Rakim couldn't put out music for 5 years bcuz he was caught up in the contract with the label and Eric B. Eric B solo album flopped and Rakim said he think Eric B thought he was gon leave him after Rakim did his solo album and not do another recording contract with him as a group. I believe Rakim bcuz Eric B did actually put out an album during that time period. Eric B album came out in 1995 and it was a big fail.
ERIC B is cool but like he said he is doing great, so his perspective is different from the majority of our peopl, so he's talking about his position. But some one who's not rich, will have a different perspective.
Eric B's story are very exaggerated tho. Sure Eric had the idea for the bass line but you ever heard Eric's solo LP cause it doesn't sound like he can produce for shit.
Yup me two. I also checked out Marley Marl on Drink Champs. I'm now convinced that Marley played a bigger role than Eric B is letting on. Eric claimed that he drove a Ice Cream van to make his money, then on here he says he needed to get out of the streets.
I hated the backlash that came after Don't sweat the technique video, when just like a lot other shit the GODS did they where ahead of their time, fast fwd 10 years and Jay comes along and makes big pimpin and glossy flossy videos became the norm. I'm not saying that we should all aspire to the glossy ethos, but why limit your vision to every video or imagery to just brick walls and screw faces .... peace
epmd had something to due with putting LI on the map...they mentioned LI more in songs than rakim...and anyway most people consider rakim legend not eric b.
EPMD got Waaaay more hits and albums. They even had other acts like Redman, Keith Murray, Das EFX, K-Solo. Erick Sermons kept it Alive to this DAY!!! (In my Deontay Wilder voice)
Damn I miss Combat Jack I love his shows talking to the legends and the stories R.I.P.

I knew Eric B and Rakim had something to do with Summertime by Jazzy Jeff and Fresh Prince. It sounds like a Rakim cover.
Great interview! Seems like Eric B is a very genuine dude. Glad he was able to sit and chat and go into such depth!!
I never knew Eric B was so articulate and I "Bought" all of their "tapes" back in the day and re bought them when cd's dropped. Rakim is definitely one of the best to ever bless the mic.

Rakim was ask in an interview about Self Destruction & replied he couldn’t understand why KRS didn’t reach out. Here Eric B says they him & Ra turned it down....wowww! Wonder if Ra knows that?

Dope ass interview!! Learned a lot about my favorite Hip Hop group of all time✊
I always feel for Freddie Foxx being faced with missed opportunity and Rakim's ascent to greatness.
love yaw'man!!!!..incomplete:). ..older, know its business now. Ericb. & Rakim mix tape 2016...make that happen bra!!!:)
If only Eric B came out w/ an album with him on the mic.
that would have been disastrous, because he wasn't a rapper.
He did and it was WHACK!!!@@arronhaggerty9661

Eric B looks like a dentist. Cool interview.
I didnt expect this from eric.
+CanvassBlack Eric paid for the producing so he can claim all the credit for producing, and not only that his production were very good back in the days
So Eric never posted the money for studio time and paying for Large too do some work on the earlier albums before they blew up?
I think both of them are living good. they broke up because won had a vision on being bigger and watching his money grow while the other just want to be a rhymer. so that's the case in my eyes. Eric be wanted to keep the bread stackin and RA just was satisfied with rhyming. im sure doc dre felt Eric B pain too. cause we are still waiting on the aftermath joint lol.
ok cool thanks for the clear up bro.
34:11 No biscuit😂😂😂
EB&R Need A New Album
Eric B is right, Rakim's solo albums didn't sound the same without he and Eric B working together.
At least Rakim had some solo projects. Eric B. ain’t on no music.
@@brolickscholar3083Not only that but Eric B and Rakim had 3 more albums on their contract and Eric went to the label and asked them can they do 2 solo albums, one solo from Eric B and one solo from Rakim and then they was supposed to comeback together and for the third album on their contract. terrytees He can't Dj or produce. He just one of those that's well connected and can definitely navigate his way around... trust me when say this
Rakims albums didn't sound the either. They worked great together as a team. That's why their sound was legendary!
Q - Flip brought me here. 🤣🤣🤣

Eric B always low key, same facial expression with the big old chains
moomoo hakim only once he smiled in a pic with Pac.
moomoo hakim Real Talk peeps used to say he had the same impassive look on his face in all the videos..
ّّّ
is eric b and rakim more legendary than epmd? eric is off wit dat......
melun dank Explain how? Considering Eric B and Rakim put L.I. on the map and changed the face of Hip-Hop with all due respect to EPMD
epmd had something to due with putting LI on the map...they mentioned LI more in songs than rakim...and anyway most people consider rakim legend not eric b.
