One of the worst parts of having adhd, is being able to recognize it in others, but not being able to convince them that they have it (i.e. my parents/family members). Seeing others suffer when you know there’s an excellent solution, can be very disheartening

My father is now 77y old and will not accept that he has it, ever. I inherited it from him and got diagnosed 2 months ago at 42 years old. Medication helps me tremendously. I also feel bad that my father will never get to experience this relief and insight to himself as long as he lives :(

Can someone tell me why is it that in the Alberta public sector, a GP is the one gets to decide how (or if for that matter) to treat ADHD?
No followups or treatment discussions with the psychiatrist at all?
I guess only the affluent have access to proper mental health care?
...and we wonder why so many folks are on the street these days.
