I'm utterly speechless... I knew a lot of work went into katanas but I never had any idea this much work went into the tsuba alone! I tip my hat to you good sir, may you live long in good health.
The first 30 minutes of my day is to enrich myself with the work of another person. Today, I have found enrichment to last two lifetimes. Thank you for sharing this with me.
As an amateur - trying to modify my own sword has taught me many things. Two of those things being humility and appreciation for the craftmanship of such a skilled artist. The thing that baffles me most is the seethrough of someone who will sit down - and work out a concept by chiseling away metal for hours if not days - and then go beyond the point I would have been satisfied with - to produce something so amazingly detailed and well designed. That change of perspective and the final result are things that inspire me. Thank you for this delightful video.
Ive been lucky enough to see great pieces of art. Ive seen works by Da Vinci, Van Gogh. Bernini sculptures and the veiled lady. But that Tsuba was amazing. Take a bow Sir. You are a true master.
I am lost for words............ Never seen such attention to detail. Thank you for this opportunity to see a craft that is almost non existent today. Incredible!!!!!!!
Yet another astonishing piece, Mr. Hallam! I sort of missed your informative commentary, yet at the same time I enjoyed the pure meditative beauty of the work itself (along with the musical backing, of course).
the whole process is of a beauty without equal, I would even say that it is the perfect therapy for the evil that is retained in our soul, Ford is a true Master not only for your ability and experience but for the lightness that you apply to each task. I just the fact that seeing you work is Art for your lightness of movement ... thank you very much Ford is super inspiring
I have always loved the beauty of the tsuba, and its part of the sword. I sat in awe, watching the creation of this piece and l am thankful for time well spent
Brilliant! Team and Ford! Second time watching this, just mindblowing, especially after i understand more about what is going on after watching many other of your videos!
I have never seen a film that captures the infinite attention to detail, patience and artistic talent that Ford Hallam possesses as this one depicts. His talent of creating such intricate designs in metals, I am awestruck his hands create pieces that escapes us mortal men!!! He is truly a Master of this discipline, I am hoping the children that are in this film are learning this discipline and will carry on this art for the next generation. INSPIRING
One word..... and only one word.... exquisite. Having reflected on this art.... it brings to mind just how hard fought for Fords' talent really is.... Utterly astonishing man, utterly astonishing skill... and an utterly astonishing eye.
William Hawkes Jaja, nah, this was actually yesterday. I'd been recommended his videos yesterday and hadn't come across him until then. You're in the clear.
Wow I'm amazed, this is amazing!!! The video footage was also amazing. The craftmanship is so high. I'm seeing all these techniques that I have never seen before and thought that could never be done by hand. Subscribed!!!
It is a joy to me to see such a master craftsman at work. Fabulous is not good enough to describe it. I collect Japanese art of all sorts and would not have considered anything not made by the Japanese. But not now! A truly wonderful video.
Ford Hallam So happy to have found your channel. You're work is incredible. The tiger Tsuba utsushi and this one. I mean just incredible peaces of art! Also, the videos are done in a manner where watching it relaxes you and the beauty displayed in the skill of your craft engulfs the viewer.
Thank you for continuing to share your work, and inspire craftsmen the world over to not only express their passion, but not let their boundaries define them. Continual pushing, learning, and transcending elevates art to something greater than just the mechanics of it, and turns it into its own vital experience.
VERY awesome...A LOT of craftsman ship goes into something like this...and so few have the skills anymore to produce these works of art. There is a reason that the originals are so sought after.
wow! that was truly amazing. you are an amazing craftsman. Thank you for sharing this video. I'm learning how to make these for my next sword. and your video was a true piece of art. thank you.
So elegant. I am inspired and building the tools to begin learning. Your work is very inspirational. I am curious what type of bag your pitch bowl sits upon.
that is a work of art. If I could even make something a tenth as good I would consider it a huge acomplishment. thank for the video and for sharing your craft.
This video is immense. I have been in awe of your work ever since Utsushi. Honestly, I enjoyed this video, but I did miss the commentary. Maybe it's just me, but I find just about everything, even the minutiae, of your work absolutely fascinating. I hope one day to be as devoted and skilled in my life and craft as you are in yours.
Mr Hallam, your work is superb. Can you tell me how in the 18th century a man could make similar work without any magnifying technology? Working only with daylight. Some of the work, especially nanako is so precise, especially on juyo work. I'm at a loss to understand how they did it.
I'm utterly speechless... I knew a lot of work went into katanas but I never had any idea this much work went into the tsuba alone! I tip my hat to you good sir, may you live long in good health.
+Furiora Thank you kindly. I'm pleased to hear the film was successful in showing what went in to the creation of these little sculptures.
+Ford Hallam Mr ford I love your films like these and katsuhira tiger please make more of these videos they are so captivating to watch

It's always the "going beyond" that distinguishes most masters isn't it
Ive been lucky enough to see great pieces of art. Ive seen works by Da Vinci, Van Gogh. Bernini sculptures and the veiled lady. But that Tsuba was amazing. Take a bow Sir. You are a true master.

I was just doing a bit of fun research into tsuba, and by purest fortune stumbled upon this. I am, utterly and truly speachless.
