My mother bought it to me when I was a child. It was being sold outside in between an archaeology museum and a planetarium in my beautiful home city, the City of the Angels. Life is good and memories are treasures.
Picked up this album yesterday.
Best $3 I’ve ever spent at a garage sale. This album is a gem ❤
Arthur Lyman (1932-2002) was influential in the “exotica” movement and the mania for all things Polynesian. The craze began with James Michener’s collection of short stories titled “Tales of the South Pacific” (1947), which led to the Broadway musical “South Pacific” (1949) and the film “South Pacific” (1958). Lyman put out this album in 1958, followed by another 35 albums. South Pacific mania led to Hawaii becoming a US state in 1959. The mania lasted from the mid-1950s to the mid-1970s, and it spawned tiki-themed architecture, luaus, Oceanic art, aloha shirts, straw hats, exotic drinks, and of course the “exotic” music like that heard above. Many other musicians were also part of the “exotica” movement -- e.g. Martin Denny, Les Baxter, and so on. I miss those days.
Sums it up
I grew up listening to this album. It is so exotic and mysterious.
I heard my dad play this album a lot in the 60s and 70s. What a feel!
My Dad had this LP and would play it on his very sophisticated custom made HIFI system. I would sit at the foot of his Altec-Lansing 601A co-axial speaker in that tremendous mahogany corner cabinet and just soak up the sound when I was a preschooler. Such records fascinated me to no end. .
It's great to explore the differences between the big three: Martin Denny, Les Baxter, and Arthur Lyman.
Brings back memories of Pocatello, Idaho in '71-'72 while my babysitter got high in the next room. This You Tube is a Magical Time Machine.
Me recuerda a mi esposa me dejó está música y tantos recuerdos y nos tuvimos un amor. Incomparable fue hermoso Dios la tenga en su Gloria😂😂😂❤❤❤
Loved this Stereo album. Listened to it repeatedly as a child in the early 1960s. Did creative dance to it at primary school..haha love it still.
And so did I as a young housewife in the '50s. 84 now...and STILL dancing around the room, my heart Still soaring!!!
My first album was this one. My mother and I used to dance to it. Great exercise and memories. :) So happy to have found it again. Ty so much for sharing the video!
T' was Whitby in North Yorkshire, in the factory my father had created to make record players. It was in his development room where he had lashed up a stereo system and my mother and I went in to listen to......this. This very track. My first experience of 'stereo'. Thank you the individuals who put this here.
An Englishman by the name of Arthur Dower Blumlein invented stereo.
My mom & dad would play this on the weekends along with all the other Hawaiian albums that my mom had. I still have this record & all the others to this day. Good music!
Only- A Big - big Chapeau - orchestral-ethnik-fusion-old school-and no syntis.. Wowwwwwwww !!!
Gracias a quien lo haya subido me recuerda a mi padre "Papá Pollito" que desde el cielo nos cuida y quien lo escuchaba fumando su cigarrillo, te extraño mucho Papá que en paz descanses
I love this stuff!!!!! Vibraphone Gold!
Since 1956 je rêve avec lui...j’adore
Recuerdos hermosos de mi infancia. Mi padre lo escuchaba seguido. Y yo....soñaba con tierras lejanas. Aún conservo sus discos
this is the best '59 was a great year for dreamy island jazz
This is very "ahead of its time" in many ways. It reminds me of modern lofi with a cultural flavour (like Japanese lofi) and the blending in of nature sounds is very soothing. This is wonderful to listen to while writing.
Very cool interpretation
So agree. A lot of this Exotica from way back when instantly takes me back to childhood, perhaps sitting in my old house with Dad playing this with Uncle Frank discussing Kim Novak, vibraphone in my uncle's parlor. Haunting in a minimalist yet wonderful way..
Ahh...the power of music and sound
Hm yeah that’s very interesting 😆
@@KennethDonnellyStargazer21 that's poetic

very well................................
Bellos sonidos!!
My happy place.
Ha! Van Halen 'Everybody Wants Some" intro vs 'Taboo' intro. I guess Dave's a fan!
I heard it too!!!
You beat me to it. My dad used to play this album quite a lot.
When one of my friends played some VH, I immediately thought "waitaminnit... Naww, it couldn't be.. "
But the same evocative rhythms are present in AVH's drum solos (and Neil Peart's).
Who knew Arthur was such an influencer?
Un hada un cisne , es la version especial de sui generis, ya se de donde es su influencia
Sounds quite a bit like Martin Denny in particular, and others of the "exotic" movement and "TIKI" trend in the sixties and early 70'S.. interesting...
La encontraste esta bonita

Esse se você ouvir em um quarto escuro você vira uma mariposa!
That is exactly what I used to do as a child. Getu dad to put it on and I would sit in the dark listening to this. So beautiful and evocative.

So, why don't you tell us what year it's ACTUALLY from? 50s? 60s? Give me something I can identify with!
Not enough animal noises for my taste sorry
