      That's not the message. Its get involved with greater things and then you will cultivate a great personality. For example, one can get involved in a sport and go through those processes that lead to success such as discipline persevered, industriousness, and so on and in the end he will become a successful person whom others look up to.

      @@lucavelli9723 ironically, you're the one who didn't get it.
      your interest is still based around developing various superficial aspects of yourself, and you're still obsessed with the idea of "becoming a successful person whom others look up to."
      you talked about getting involved in sports as an example, but that sounded like just an excuse to go off about disciplines and industriousness and such, without showing ANY genuine interest in talking about sports.
      your philosophy is half-baked. your comprehension needs work. go back and read the original comment again, this time with an open mind. then maybe, just maybe, you'll finally understand what it means.

      @@jichaelmorgan3796 'interested in others' sounds grand but in how many others can you be interested, and what would that interest do for them or for yourself? Then, why chase after others being interested in you by you being interested in them or in astronomy? And if you become interesting for others, so what? Their interest in you may soon be replaced by interest in someone else or in astronomy, for instance.

    • @jichaelmorgan3796
      @jichaelmorgan3796 27 днів тому

      @d1427 It's no different than going to another country and being interested in the people and the culture. You can say all those things you said about that, too. Everyone has a story to tell. People have interesting hobbies and backgrounds, experiences. Having a natural curiosity for such things is healthy and normal. The advice is to cultivate a genuine interest in people (if you don't have it), not fake it. Have you ever met a genuinely good personable person who did not have this quality?? It's one of the best pieces of advice a socialphobe can get because they usually have false preconceptions about people that need to be challenged.

      Yes, it is just noticing what we already are, rather than becomming something (enlightened etc.).
      This is important to know, because most people think, they are seeking something special, that they have never experienced before, but they are already that many times at any day. Its just not recognized and then there comes all that mental noise again. Then it seems, to be not existent at all.

    • @Spiritual.Madness

      @@maltonic42 well put and so true. It actually reminds me of this thing I read the other day. About a woman who knows she's been true many traumatizing experiences. Yet she doesnt know why she doesnt feel anything about it. So she goes out looking. Looking obsessively for details about what happened to see if she can feel it. Than she has this insight that the fact she doenst feel it, IS the effect of the trauma. And then you realise the trauma has always been embued with yourself. And it becomes so tangible and essential in your experience. Just like the discovery of the true self.

      Alan actually charged for most of his live lectures, all his books, and his audio/video recordings. He never identified as a guru, rather he claimed to be an entertainer.
      His son, Mark, travelled with him for many years, recording his talks, editing and packaging them for distribution. Together they set up the Electronic University, now the Alan Watts Org, and Mark continues Alan’s efforts to be a custodian to the integrity of his father’s voice, helping to spread Alan’s potent, yet lighthearted, message for the world to enjoy.
      However, all of this energy input by Mark continues to require resources… so we are still offering Alan’s work in fresh formats to the public - in exchange for their support.
      We hope you’ll find value, or at least understanding, in this response, and in the restored and remastered audio we’ve been working diligently to provide.
