  • Vampire slime looks green on the outside but red on the inside. It's color changes depending on where the light come from. Reflected light is green, the transmitted light is red.
Vampire slime gets its unusual color from two dyes. The first is Fluorescein. This is the stuff that makes yellow/green highlighters glow brightly. The Fluorescein absorbs energy from ultraviolet light and then re-emits green visible light. If you reflect light off the front of vampire slime, it will look green because of the Fluorescein dye.
You can extract a solution of Fluorescein by breaking open several fluorescent highlighters and soaking the sponge inside in water. Use this dye/water solution to create slime or even secret messages that will appear under ultraviolet (black) light.
The second dye inside vampire slime is bromophenol blue. This dye will absorb all light except red. So light passing through the slime will appear red.
