I received a tea cake for the first time today from a Chinese student of mine as a gift. I love tea but I haven't tried a Puerh tea cake before and don't know what to do with it. Glad I saw this video. Thanks for teaching.
Very helpful, and informative, Shen Su. Many thanks to you, and the GTH Family. I love these videos, and the GTH approach. Keep them coming. Peace and well wishes.
Great video! At the beginning you mention it is good to break up a cake if you plan on drinking it in a year or two to get a more even brew. Does this hold true for all tea equally? Fresh sheng pu'er, shou pu'er, and dian hong?
Yes, breaking up the cake you are going to drink and putting it in a ceramic jar for a month, then start drinking, is the ideal. You may not be able to do this, due to lack of space or jars, but it is the ideal. A half-broken cake is neither ideal for storage, nor for drinking...
A clean ceramic jar is best (clay or porcelain for example). Puerh needs to breathe so the jar should have a lid but not be completely airtight. We will make a follow-up video explaining it in more detail soon.

Actually, bits and whole leaves steep very differently. Of course, don't take our word for it. Try a steeping just of bits and one just of whole leaves. You will see they taste very different, steep at different speeds and to different strengths.... There is no way to break a cake without creating some broken bits and a mix is usually ideal for steeping, but trying to keep the leaves whole while breaking is still a good approach we think. But if it doesn't matter to you then break away and stay happy and full of tea!
Hah, drinking some Da Hong Pao and surfing for some tea vids. Thank you for the right time.

Brightest Blessings to you for your help.
I have always wanted to buy a Tea Cake but had no idea what to do with it.
Nice to see an aged tea cake master and his tools at work!
Got one of those tea cakes from a friend, and this link. I'm ready to go. Thx!
Always good to have a new skill to practice! Thank you Shen
Terimakasih ilmunya sangat bermanfaat
Interesting learn something new everyday.
Thank you, so helpful! No wonder I was getting so much powdered tea before😂
Wait.... several infusions from the same leaves?
Im used to discarding my Tetley British Blend bags after one use😅
I have a lot to learn!
Teabags are meant to be steep once, loose leaves can be steep a lot more time!
I can’t wait to try these I love tea so much. I’m going to my local Spice works shop tomorrow and am going to buy 9 small packages for 5.99 each
I have a puerh brick, probably machine pressed. But I'll try this method.
Love the minimalist shirt there, were did you get it?
So helpful. Thank you :)

What kind of jar would you store that in. Like an airtight kilner jar?

希望有機會能跟聖素一起喝茶
I gotta get into this.
Very delightful to watch. I love baking and I make baking videos on my channel as well
How many mg of caffeine is in per cup of tea
Thank you
I’m a newbie. How much tea is used for a brew?
That depends on the size of your teapot and how many people you are serving and in what brewing style. 10g may be an average? may be....
Let us know the cc of your pot and which type of tea you like and we could help more specifically :)
Global Tea Hut Wude answered my question this weekend in his talk. Thank you.
I find about 8/9g per 150ml works well
Thanks 🇦🇺
most welcome!
@@globalteahut thanks. By the way. Do I need to use filtered water for all of this? Or just standard chlorinated stuff out of the tap?

Try steaming it for a minute, and all the leave separate easily
Good idea. Never tried it. Maybe worth an experiment., But perhaps it would effect the flavor...
I want a pu er tea cake as well.
Brew puer tea by yixing teapot is better.
Bro who cares about whole tea leaves it will still taste the same
