this raag is actually quite popularly known as Vaasanthi in the Carnatic Music System of South India, and there exist many compositions in the same. thanks to mehdi Saab for immortalising this gazal in this raag
Thanks for bringing this to our notice; the vastness of our India & her diversity makes me shed tears for we are thankfully together bound by India, herself, our motherland
In hindustani classical style is known as Raag Bhoopeshwari and there is a song sung by Saraswati Maa . A Marathi song Malvun Tak dip please listen to the song🙏🙏
I have written at some other place too, but it is worth repeating here. Mehdi Hasan Sahab first time visited Delhi in 1976 sometime during Autumn. His concert was held in Modern School in their circular auditorium. The event started around 7 pm and continued till about 1am. There were two intervals. The 2nd interval was about 11.30pm. We all were sitting on mattresses spread on the floor with "masnads (gau takias)" kept all around. After the 2nd interval, the hall which was full at the start had hardly 50 persons left, including my two siblings and me. Three Ghazals he sang after that 2nd interval. One was this, the second of Meer Taqi Meer: Dekh to Dil Ke Ja'an Se Uthta Hai and another of Farhat Shahzad: Kya Bhala Mujh Ko Parakhney Ka Natija Nikla. Where this ghazal of Ahmad Faraz was the last he sang that night. The second time I heard him live was when he visited Delhi again after few years and the event took place at Ghalib Academy next to Bal Bhawan in Rouse Avenue Area of Delhi. So I feel blessed to have heard Mehdi Sahab live twice in my life.
Is it true that Late Manna De stopped singing Ghazals after listening to this Ghazal by Late Mehdi Hassan out of respect for Mehdi Hassan? I read somewhere that he confessed this in one of his interviews.
@@patnaikt He did not really stop singing ghazals, but was extremely respectful to Mehdi Sahab. I was lucky to be with him for 30 years and he taught me the style of singing these kind of songs with high degree of caution! But he insisted on listening more than perform, except for Riaz purposes.
@@dr.rajatbanerjee thanks for the information. Actually one magazine reported like that so I thought he might have as he was an extremely humble person.
One great thing in the inimitable style of gayiki of Mehdi Hassan Saab was that he had never compromised with ragas and had always maintained their pristine purity while delivering his divine creations. What great a singer he was? Sir, we became paupers after your departure.
@@johnditta Saab,. Your response has come to my notice only today and therefore, this belated response! Thankful for the compliment ! Perhaps, the great Mehdi Hassan Saab was the finest improvisation artist in the World Of Ghazal Gayiki ! A singer of the caliber and brilliance of the great Mehdi Hassan Saab is born only once in a millennium ! Personally speaking, l consider myself to be extremely lucky to have born during the lifetime of this great legendary singer ! As ill luck would have it, l didn't see the great Khan Saab while he was performing live during his lifetime ! That's the one and only regret in my life ! Perhaps, I will have to carry forward this wish of lifetime to my next birth, if there be any !
Khan Sahib, Mehdi Hassan Sahib at his best while singing this ghazal. In my humble opinion, in the history of music, no one has been able to marry the sentiments of the ghazal poetry and its musical presentation.as he does. May Allah rest his soul in peace! Ameen. P.S: I believe that it is a unique and extremely difficult undertaking on his part to integrate Raag Bopali with a little bit of Raag Boop Kali.and make it such an impressive and soul touching composition. Big fan of mehndi hassan saab....iss gazal ke kuch lines hamesha mere status par rehti hai...tu khuda hai na mera ishq farishton jaisa..dono insaan hai toh phir kyon itne hijabon mile
We call this raaga " Pratiksha. " Famous qawwali artist late Aziz Nazaji's " Dhalta suraj " and late legend smt. Lataji's Marathi song " Malaun tak deep " are beautiful examples of this raaga Pratiksha. I expess my gratitude to Godly shri Mehdi Hasanji, the divine voice of Indian classic heritage of music.
This is indeed a very rare version. I really enjoy it every time i listen to it. This is one of a kind version by Mehdi Hassan Khan Sahib in which he shows his mastery that why he is Ustad Mehdi Hassan. May Allah abundantly reward him for all his good deeds and forgive him and all of us for our short comings. He definitely took gazal singing to new heights and millions of us enjoyed his unique style of soul touching 'gaiky' for decades. Ustad, may you Rest in Peace.

this raag is actually quite popularly known as Vaasanthi in the Carnatic Music System of South India, and there exist many compositions in the same. thanks to mehdi Saab for immortalising this gazal in this raag
Manna Dey told me on several occasions how to listen to Mehdi Saab.
Manna Dey experimented with Anil Biswas on these Mausiki in Hindusthan
Tapan Patnaik the reporting was right and he was very frank and honest. He advised to keep listening to Mehdi saab but dare not to sing his numbers.
@@dr.rajatbanerjee great and humble man. I think he was right. I am yet to see a singer (male or female) who could/can sing like Late Mehdi Saab.
Ansoo rukte bi nahi nikelte bi nahi great khan sahib
One great thing in the inimitable style of gayiki of Mehdi Hassan Saab was that he had never compromised with ragas and had always maintained their pristine purity while delivering his divine creations. What great a singer he was? Sir, we became paupers after your departure.
Yeh Matlab ki baat sir. aapne ustad Mehdi Hassan sahib ke bare mein geh di hai.Shukrya.
Never ever great masters like UMH will born again.

We call this raaga " Pratiksha. "
Famous qawwali artist late Aziz Nazaji's " Dhalta suraj " and late legend smt. Lataji's Marathi song " Malaun tak deep " are beautiful examples of this raaga Pratiksha.
I expess my gratitude to Godly shri Mehdi Hasanji, the divine voice of Indian classic heritage of music.

Again, the correct name of Ustad is Mehdi Hassan
All time favorite I'm a moderate boy from moderation generation but my soul is addicted to Mehdi Hassan shb's gazal.

Another awesome classic from the Ghazal Maestro.

This great soul gave a new form to music and all the emotions that make music. He pours the soul out and it dances to bare tunes. He does not only pierce what we consider impenetrable,he communicates through his soulful melody, emotions to which birds trees and sunlight swing. He is alive will be alive in the greatness of human soul.

Mam could u plz elaborate more about this RAAG, I am not able to find it
@@MrSyedbasit This raag has been an old one in Carnatic music where it is known as Vaasanti but was discovered and used in Hindustani music recently. It is used much more in South Indian films (Tamil and Malayalam). Depending on the gharanas in North India this raag is known as Bhoopeshwari and Bhoopkali. As far as I know Mehdi Hassan saab is the first one to use this raag in a popular north Indian language. Although Ilaiyaraaja (a famous composer from South India) has used this raag in many Tamil songs before this ghazal but I haven't heard any one sing it better than Hassan saab.
