Can't help feeling Phillipa II got the raw end of the commentary in this show. They beat Black hole because Blackhole could not cause the kind of damage that could stop them, just a lot of chunks off the armor of a resilient robot who then used their strength against an obvious weakness of black hole (the middle of the front is a weapon blind spot and the perfect place for a pushbot to push). It was a good solid win. It took a serious pounding from Tornado and then went down to a driving error. It was good to see at last an international show with worth while opposition.
If it was up to me, I never would've forfeited the place in the final to Tornado. I understand that Razer was immobilised for too long and that Simon Scott and Vincent Blood were playing fair. In fact, what confuses me about it is (according to Vincent himself when I once saw him appear in these comment sections to have his say) that Razer was actually in that dead spot for more than half the fight (as would've been seen in the unedited footage), yet the judges never seemed to take that into account. However, two things. Firstly, Razer likely wouldn't have had any trouble with its motors if it wasn't for that cowardly anti-crusher web. In any case, why should Tornado be treated fairly if they don't play fair themselves? The fact that scumbag device of theirs wasn't banned before it could ever be used is unjust enough, let alone the team stealing the UK Championship because of it and never having the title stripped from them. Razer carrying on in spite of their immobility would've been a good way to stick it to the Tornado team for their dirty tactics. Secondly (even if this is just my personal opinion), I can't stand it when any robot does the vast majority (if not all) of the offensive work to get the better of its opponent in a fight, only to lose literally because of a technicality and not because of anything the opponent did to them. I don't think it's wrong for me to say that the victory should always go to the better robot in a fight, which Razer clearly was in this one. And here there was a chance to avoid that nonsense, but sadly that wasn't the case. Kudos to Simon and Vincent for being good sports, though. I don't agree with what Ian Lewis apparently said that Vincent shouldn't have had any say in the team decision just because he wasn't an original member, but that's a separate matter. Still, I guess it's not that bad at the end of the day as Razer still won this battle, thus getting some revenge. They say they handed the victory over to Tornado, but Tornado didn't actually win the battle. They lost, and the decision was never officially reversed. All Razer did was withdraw from the competition of their own free will afterwards to allow Tornado to go into the finals instead. That's not the same as the decision of the battle. So it remains a victory for Razer, controversial or not, and puts them ahead of Tornado 3-2 to end their feud.
can anyone shed some light on Ian Lewis and Simon Scott getting back together again to enter warhead into battlebots 2015? i know everyone said that the razer team broke up and whatever, but they did get back together again. admittedly it was without vinny though.
Exactly. I'm surprised Razer even got all those modifications to it after series 6. They didn't need it and actually just made it break down a lot again :(
I don't like that Tornado was allowed to do all this stuff, but sitting next to Typhoon, they really aren't too bad You want favoritism, look at those Typhoon cheats rather than Tornado
Refbot really should have separated Razer and Tornado, the two robots were "locked together" with one unable to move. Pinning isn't allowed in Robot Wars, that's in the rules, along with the rules that DO allow custom weapon modifications. And in this case, it seems obvious that Tornado were literally STUCK- Razer COULDN'T put them down if they wanted to, they were hooked. And as usual, when an opponent comes up with a way from preventing Razer by winning through their usual boring method (pick opponent up, don't let them fight back, win), they adapt themselves to win by an even MORE boring method- pick opponent up, wait for time to expire. Still, give 'em credit for handing the win over to Tornado (this isn't the first time this has happened either, Ultor handed their win over to Big Brother back in the 3rd Wars), although I suspect it was because they knew they couldn't get their motor damage repaired in time for the final and didn't want to just get pulled into the arena with string and lose to Philipper without being able to move. Still, very gracious. Man, Craig is being extremely vocal here, voicing dissatisfaction with the Tornado cage and saying outright that Philipper have no chance and shouldn't even be in the final. Quite uncharacteristic of him. Philipper 2 made a good fist of it against the UK champions, but I think they lost the flipper early and Tornado were smart enough to stay away from the crusher- it was no Razer claw, but it could still have potentially done some damage if it had got onto their top plate. The usual Tornado shove factor, precise control and non-stop aggression carried it. And with that, this is the end of BBC Robot Wars. They'll be back in series 7 on Channel 5 but... it's the beginning of the end. This is an episode of lasts, actually, since this is also the last time Razer would fight in a UK series AND the last time we see Phillipa Forrester as presenter (before they replace her with that bimbo Jayne Middlemiss). I might go back and rewatch series 3 and 4 instead...
+ArcaneAzmadi Oh hey good point. Recently had a talk with someone about the first world championship finale where the other person was saying that Behemoth was pinning down Razer for too long(I still think that the house robots acted a bit too early/in flavor of Razer). Sure this is a different Series but I think they still had the rule here, looks like they just wanted Razer to get their revenge and win. Looks like Razer would've been able to drop them but just didn't want to, winning the match by doing more. About the Motors, I think that was that case, looks like Razer wasn't mobile on one side, a bit lucky that they picked up Tornado before that. Apparently Ian didn't want to give them the win but Vinny and Simon wanted, think that the Razer team split after that(at least for a long time) because Ian was not happy about this decision again. Guess Craig was supposed to say what Mentorn had in script for them, guess they just wanted Tornado gone and Razer popular again. Not sure if Philliper even had a chance, unless it would've done the same trick as on Black Hole(which is more difficult with Tornado since the wheels aren't in the middle and they're more experienced drivers). Not sure about the Claw but I don't think it would've been powerful enough to break Tornado's rather strong armor. Sure didn't help that Philliper had taken some damage from the Black Hole battle before. Hey that reminds me, isn't this an almost classic final(fitting for the last episode) where one Robot had a rather hard road while the other one had it mostly easy(Philliper 2 being battle damaged while Tornado had almost nothing). Speaking of Tornado, apparently the Team said that while they can't enter the reboot they will enter the next series if there's one. My guess is that there will be a second one, usually those were recorded around summer time(here) and with it being spring now, I wouldn't be surprised if they just made a big RW show soon again. Guess that's it, really wish that all RW stuff was on one channel, but that would probably cause trouble(you've seen the First World Championship, right?), ugh right they replaced Phillipa, she was really nice in the early Series, and while her replacement didn't have the same amount of technical knowledge she still did a nice job. Later on she got... no offense, bitchy, mostly because what Mentorn wanted of this show. God damn those guys, I really wish that someone who didn't care about profit/views would do a robot show like this and upload it on YT, but of course that wouldn't really work out in a world where you can't do anything with money. You going to watch Series 3/4 again(I know you already did by now) do you have a free seat there? I'll bring the popcorn. Why 3/4 exactly through, is it because you've already seen those before and direclty started with Series 5? Well alright, I guess I'll post a last comment about this Razer/Tornado thing here.
+r543Blitzsonic Nailed it; Series 3 and 4 (or actually 4 and 3 to be precise, they aired 4 first then went back and showed 3 after) were the two series that were aired on terrestrial TV in my country (Australia) when I was a high school brat and got me hooked on the show. Not surprised so many classic teams, Tornado included, didn't show up for the reboot (there's a dispiriting number of "2016 series: did not enter" results on the wiki), it's been a bit short notice. Building a combat robot takes a long time, it's why the first series had so few entrants that they had to include stock robots (and a lot of them were such poor quality) so teams who aren't active on the live circuit wouldn't even have a robot on hand to enter with. This series _is_ only 6 episodes, though, it's like it's a re-pilot being floated to test the viability of a full return (like the 2015 Battlebots reboot, which was only 3 episodes) with a more complete series planned if this one tops the ratings when it airs (as it's almost guaranteed to do). Once they announce a proper full-length series for 2017 and they have a year to prepare, we'll hopefully see new entrants from Team Panic Attack, George Francis, Roger Plant and, yes, Team Tornado. You know, I just worked out the code: although none of the robots on the wiki are listed as entering the 2016 series, every major competing team that _didn't_ enter is marked as "2016 series: did not enter". This means that every team that _doesn't_ have this tag MUST have entered and they're giving it away by omission. Using this method I've so far worked out that Teams Dantomkia, Behemoth, Storm 2 and Bigger Brother have entered the 2016 series (Dantomkia was also confirmed by a photo of the pits released where its unmistakable shape could barely be seen on a bench).
+ArcaneAzmadi Oh wow, either they showed the show really late there(like when it was almost over already) or you're a lot older than me xD. When it was shown here first I wasn't even in School, oh those nice Sunday Evenings. The wiki has an entry on Tornado's page, saying that the Team plans to enter the next one, at least that confirms a return if the Show appears again. Oh the Stock Robots, boy those were fun, back when the producers had to worry "oh damn it, that box broke down, what are we going to tell about out robot" since they couldn't enter the Arena stage. A bit sad that this was done so hidden, Grunt sure looked promising. I read about the 6 Episodes, well let's hope that they made the best out of it. Think that Panic Attack would return, George Francis and Roger Plant seem to have had money problems back then, but I'd really like to see Chaos 3 or Quasar and Wheely Big Cheese(preferably the more relieable version) back in action, but I do think that both versions of WBC were sold. Oh interesting theory, I do know that the Storm2 team entered(they announced it on twitter) and that you talked to someone who was there. Wait, Dantomika was visible on a picture? Sweet. Behemoth were almost confirmed(given how they entered those live events, but I'm not sure if they entered the most recent ones), Bigger Brother is also interesting, now with adult joe and maybe a new robot?
+r543Blitzsonic Yeah, I'm 32. Probably a fair bit older than you. I'd be amazed if Behemoth _didn't_ enter, since they actually fought in Battlebots 2015 with Radioactive, even if they didn't do well ("reinforced plastic" became a meme after they got shredded by Tombstone). I'm not surprised they had to build a new robot to enter, there's licensing bullshit that comes with entering Battlebots- it's why beta (from Team Hurtz) isn't allowed to enter Robot Wars in any event that will be broadcast, even though it didn't actually get to make it into the battlebox either due to American Airlines losing a bag of their components. Good old Behemoth actually found some real success in the years between Series 7 and now, winning the 2006 Roaming Robots winter championship and giving them their first UK trophy. Hopefully they'll have broken their curse and will make a real impression in the reboot series.
+ArcaneAzmadi I'm only 20 this year, so yeah. Oh they entered Battlebots? I read in the comments that there was this licensing problem(and then there's Technogames as well), why did they have to do so much big trouble with the licensing of robot names/not allowing them in other events? Just so that the competition of shows wouldn't be able to use them? What exactly happened to their bot.. sees video.... interesting design with that axe, definitely something that would only fit in battlebots, but was it really plastic? Oh they put extra reinforced plastic as extra armor, but what would it normally have had? Ouch... I've also heard that there were other engineering problems and not sure how successful that design would've been(battlebots just has those extreme designs which wouldn't work out in RW at all, or at least that's what I think). I've heard about Behemoth winning it in 2006, a bit surprising, if you look at the more recent events all I see are those extreme flippers which just flip themselves over(and Behemoth's srimech could be a bit better). I do hope that they'll have better luck this time.
+Jake Heath There's nothing wrong with it. Just because a robot is modified to better handle the opponent doesn't mean it will win. Plus it adds to creativity. +Scott G: They'd have classified it as being pitted so long as Tornado's wheels were over the Pit's opening.
+Mizticall You don't _need_ to fit them into the pit, get them suspended over the pit so they can't drive off and they're counted as pitted. It's in the rules, the precedent was set in the 4th Wars during the Heat C final between The Morgue and Firestorm II. The reason Razer didn't win is because _they didn't do this-_ they were still holding Tornado up _above_ the pit when Cease was called. If they'd put them down and backed off, they would have won and you'd have been left with nothing to whine about.
From what I can tell, it was the numerous disagreements between the team that led to Vincent Blood leaving and then the team just never entered into seires 7 likely because of the arguments these 'unfair' decisions and the like caused.
Yes it did. Ian wanted to go through, Simon and Vinnie claimed it was unfair to do so however. Ian, being Ian, threw a hissy fit and even claimed Vinnie cannot call himself a true member of the Razer team as he did not help build it or operate it. Vinnie got pissed, left the team and they disbanded soon after. So to ALL Razer fans out there who worship Ian Lewis like he is some sort of god, he was the reason your favourite robot never returned.
For everyone who says that Tornado can't fit in the pit, DID YOU NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT ANDREW MARCHANT SAID AT THE END OF THE FIGHT! If Razer had gotten all 4 wheels of Tornado over the pit and JUST LET GO, unlike how they did during the Series 6 Grand Final, Tornado would have been ruled as pitted and would have lost! I don't know what part of that people don't get, or maybe they just don't want to get it!!!!!
Razer was burning up! Maybe THAT'S why the team gave their victory to Tornado. It'd take too much repair. Maybe that's also why Razer wasn't in series 7. Hypnodisc probably had a good reason to not be in series 7. That robot started to suck after the 5th wars.
They only struggled because of the new motors etc, which I feel was completely pointless. To be honest, I think the Razer team should have brought in Warhead, their Battlebots machine. It would have made for an incredible change and a much better Series 7.
That's a shame. Warhead imo would have wrecked S7 cold. It would have been interesting if the agreement didn't exist. Biohazard and the best of Battlebots could go toe to toe with best of Robot Wars in my mind.
How did Typhoon "cheat"? If you're seriously going to claim they bribed the producers into letting them win, then you're hopelessly wrong. Sure, the Series 7 final was pretty much rigged, but that was THE PRODUCER'S fault, not Typhoon's.
First of all, stop sounding like a drama queen with your punctuation. I'll say this though; Razer had difficulty letting go of Tornado in the Series 6 Final, hence it didn't work. This time had all the potential in the world but their drive motors were burning out, so it would've been really tough to push them over the pit.
Glad Tornado haven't come back in the rebooted series, unless they can actually handle damage to their robot? If you can't handle damage to your robot, simple: don't enter or build one to begin with. Robot Wars could have been one of the shows of the 2000's but what Tornado did ultimately led to the Series 7 farce so it's them I blame for it being cancelled as a whole. Favourite childhood TV series went up in smoke for 12 years!
LOL!!!!!! Sorry about that man. I don't usually cuss a lot on UA-cam (or in my everyday life for that matter, me being a Born-Again Christian and all), but I guess with me being sick of everyone saying that Tornado cheated and all, I guess I kinda lost my cool. I was just trying to make a point that's all. Besides, thats what competiton is all about right, pushing the rules as far as they can be pushed?!?!?!
2nd place was good!. From Joe. X
I believe you hit the nail on the head there, my friend.
Well done for being the bigger man/robot.
Tornado that was. From Joe. C
Razer did return to Robot wars series 8.
@Digita1Phant0m Could be the sparks that fly onto the robots to burn the controls
Tornado edged out Razer in the extreme warriors season 2 international championships on a judges vote!. From Joe. X
@BBCRobotwarsUK It doesn't quite explain the huge argument between Ian Lewis and the other two team members, though.
Razer also wasn't in series 7, because the team disbanded.
can anyone shed some light on Ian Lewis and Simon Scott getting back together again to enter warhead into battlebots 2015? i know everyone said that the razer team broke up and whatever, but they did get back together again. admittedly it was without vinny though.
Which is why it got 2nd place and debatably won the 6th wars?
@BBCRobotwarsUK actualy if u watch one of their replays
u could clearly see that razer was compleatly burnt out by the billowing smoke
@BBCRobotwarsUK I can't say for certain about the latter, but it definately bought about Vincent Blood leaving the team.
Exactly. Look at this battle. Sure, they were "on top" but it had broken down very early on and they were right to hand the decision over.

you literally can't fit Tornado into the pit with that cage mod. That's bullshit
They were apparently forbidden to enter series 7 under new rules regarding hydraulics.
Cruel for razer!. From Joe. X
Well Vincent left the team after this decision - things between him and Ian Lewis were tense for a while before this fight ... apparently.
From what I can tell, it was the numerous disagreements between the team that led to Vincent Blood leaving and then the team just never entered into seires 7 likely because of the arguments these 'unfair' decisions and the like caused.
@nuttythecandyman661 Well, that's the third time it's been used, so....apparantly it wasn't then.
considering razer did struggle in extreme 2, i reckon, they wouldnt do very well in seires 7
He won the all stars crown. From Joe. X
Cruel regulations!. From Joe. X
no they were refused entry 2 series 7 because the hydraulic fuel for their crusher was above the new 1500psi limits
Poor luck for razer!. From Joe. X
Urrrggh, why did Razer have to win? I actually despise the team. >.
He overheated. From Joe. X
Thankyou based god.
@nuttythecandyman661 By that same logic, Cassius wasn't playing fair by having a srimech, and neither was Tracie by being invertible.
Rex Garrod was the Cassius owner. From Joe. X
All these salty razer fans make me laugh my ass of
TORNADO DIDN'T CHEAT! I'm fed up of people saying that! If it cheated, it would not have been allowed in the competition!
Tornado was awesome in robot wars. From Joe. X
They only struggled because of the new motors etc, which I feel was completely pointless. To be honest, I think the Razer team should have brought in Warhead, their Battlebots machine. It would have made for an incredible change and a much better Series 7.
I highly doubt Hypnodisc would have achieved much if anything in Series 7. It seemed much weaker in the 6th wars.
That's a shame. Warhead imo would have wrecked S7 cold. It would have been interesting if the agreement didn't exist. Biohazard and the best of Battlebots could go toe to toe with best of Robot Wars in my mind.
Oh, okay.
Come on tornado robot😊
Hi
If they had won fair and square, Razer would not have handed over the victory to Tornado.
Razer overheated. From Joe. X
Tornado**
He won the extreme warriors season 2 USA/UK international championships episode before series 6. From Joe. X
I do admit that Tornado cheated. I mean, it couldn't fit in the pit!
He used his frame 3 times v Razer. From Joe. X
@Falloutman216 Oh shut up me. I should have watched the entire vid! ^^
TORNADO WINS YOO HOO
Glad Tornado haven't come back in the rebooted series, unless they can actually handle damage to their robot? If you can't handle damage to your robot, simple: don't enter or build one to begin with. Robot Wars could have been one of the shows of the 2000's but what Tornado did ultimately led to the Series 7 farce so it's them I blame for it being cancelled as a whole. Favourite childhood TV series went up in smoke for 12 years!
Dangerous machines. From Joe. X
I hate Torado, they practically cheated!
