They need to change it back to a better price, nobody tryna add all them side trips like that, im sticking with tickets and flights.

I totally can see where you’re coming from. Those side trips can be a bit much even for some of my families, but I’ve seen my “adventurous” friends done them and they really enjoyed it. Not everyone’s cup of ☕️ 🤣

@@FamMerry true. I was just so disappointed because as soon as i booked my first trip, the price went up and im like “really!😐”

Yea I know what you mean - what a bummer! I’m sure you can still enjoy Japan with flights and tickets - don’t forget to get the tourist’s “welcome suica” card for trains and buses!

We are planning on going for 20 days but we’re bummed to find out how much the JR pass increased. We might still try the 7 day but the 21 day is just unreasonable.

20 days sounds really nice for a Japan trip. A 7-day JR pass as part of the 20-day trip can still be really nice to just explore different parts of Japan and spend the rest of the time relaxing and taking it slow. We also went there earlier this year on a 16-day trip and only used the 7-day pass as we much preferred exploring Tokyo at a slower pace and being a bit more immersive at various attractions in the area with our family - eg Disneyland, DisneySea, Odaiba etc. I’ve also seen some of my friends on a 3-week vacation in Japan and using 7-day JR pass to activate in Tokyo and later end at Osaka for their flight back so they could maximize it for the more southern parts of Japan - eg Hiroshima and beyond. I think it will depend on where you’d spend time :)

I want to expand my trip to other cities just get my money's worth but with limited days in japan I also want to explore the cities more. It's my first time traveling solo on april in a 17 days trip, and i was initially planiing to get the 14 days JR pass but with the price increase it made more sense for me to just get the 7 days to use when im in osaka doing day trips to hiroshiima, kobe, and himeji and then moving to kanazawa for my last days before going back to tokyo and narita. for most of my stay in tokyo, kyoto and some days in osaka, i will just pay with suica and cash. and use the kintetsu day pass when going to nara. wdyt?

Hey there, your plan totally make sense with the 7-day JR pass with all the major intercity travels. For Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, it does make sense to use suica & cash - just make sure you get the tourist suica bc apparently they stopped selling it due to chip shortage. Suica might also be hard to top up in kyoto so I’d use ICOCA for this. For a day trip to Nara, I agree that you can just use another pass given it’s not a significant amount.
Last note: the 7-day JR pass for all the travels you mentioned, it might be good to plan out the itinerary in advance to make sure you’ve got enough time to see the major attractions in each place. :)
Also, April could be a peak season, so it might be worthwhile to also reserve your seats on the Shinkansen as well.
