Good stuff. At first I thought why the hell did she go back. But then I realized, that’s what an animal would do. Or an abused human. It’s all she knows. Of course she would go back.
Exactly! thanks for watching. Scott

A true masterpiece. Tragic journey of animals reared for meat is depicted powerfully.. Emotional and heart touching.
Thank you Sheetal 🙏 That will fill the hearts of everyone involved. Scott
@@kittenpyramid Blessings and best wishes to you 🙏 ✨️
God gave us dominion over the animals at the beginning. Fewer and fewer know this or care. Humans & animals are in 2 different categories. They're trying to program us to eat BUGS AND PLANTS!! No thanks!!
the thing I really loved was the plate drop at the beginning vs the plate drop and the end. in both times she realized that the pigs were being eaten. the first one was more fear driven well the other one was betrayal. something animals in the meat industry feel.
Amazing observation 👏 lots of little metaphorical easter eggs dotted throughout :)
A brilliant idea from Brett!
@@rickyray2794 Right, because there's a way to know what animals feel and can't feel?
@@rickfromhell yea, if they feel betrayed, they would leave humans and walk away, wage a war, fight back. You can tell when something/someone feels betrayed. It's not rocket science.
@@FloweroftheuniverseVi I personally don’t believe that humans are above any species on earth because of my spirituality. I was explaining my perspective on the film, it’s really not that deep
Thanks ALTER for putting out our film. So excited to be part of the gang!

Congrats Brett! Incredible work!
@@callumwear4766 Thank you!
Awesome film!! Loved it!!👍👍😁
A brilliant take on farm animals.
The younger man is a perfect analogy of the horribly abusive grooming that happens to children in 4H clubs. There is abuse on both sides of this industry. Clearly to the animals we treat with such disregard but to the young people as well, whose natural instinct for compassion we condition/abuse/brainwash out of them for this mostly unnecessary and horrific industry. What a great film. I hope many people get to see this.
Film ends, cheery song goes tAsTy LiTtLe rOaDkiLL.. ahahah
if it happened naturally, I'd turn on the GriLL x
This experience is what billions of animals go through across the planet when they take their final trip to the slaughterhouse. Horrifying
It is indeed.
I didn't even think of it like that. I was confused about so many lines. But now it makes so much sense. 😔 I feel dumb. 😭
Experienced it first hand at numerous vigils, it is truly horrifying...and baffling that it still happens...you know they're gassed beforehand too??
@@StuntzMcKenzy2D not dumb, perhaps overwhelmed?
Animal's are that smart to feel that kind of fear they are just dumb will u feel sad if a Rock breaks?
A rather obtuse metaphore for the meat and farming industry but, having said that and with experience of my own in writing and shooting short films, it's very hard to tow the line between subtlety and blunt symbolism. In terms of direction and production level, the creator clearly has an eye for cinema and knows his onions. Fantastically shot and genuinely engrossing.. what was the budget for a production of this level? I would definitely watch more from these creators, well done 👍🏽
Has anyone tried scanning those QR codes? I keep freezing my tv and trying but no luck lol.. Maybe they're nothing but I can't stop trying 🤣
There are a few moments in the film where they are scannable! They do lead somewhere if you can chance upon the right moment... 👀
Just got to catch the right one x
@@kittenpyramid yeah I'ma try again after work lol, my phone is old and not so good ❤️ but it's the thrill of the hunt for me.
Well that was kind of disturbing. It had a 1970's horror film feel to it. Well done!
Disturbing is right!
Man now I'm sad. Fr tho it's something that's always at the back of my mind like some kinda repressed memory or something whenever I'm eating meat. There were many times when I would eat a steak or something and while I was hungry I didn't mind it. However, by the time I was full I just felt more and more repulsion with each bite... No dirty jokes plz I bet someone out there drew a parallel after reading but I'm being genuine lol
I felt the exact same way, and it is why I felt compelled to write the story. Thank you for sharing x
@@kittenpyramid nice job! It was really good!
So the photo of the son holding a baby kiddo was him “bonding” with one of the pigs, he named her and treated her like a pet - even though the dad told him not to get attached or name her (which is what livestock farmers always say). Kiddo starts recognising that they’re eating her kin (she’s confused, because they keep her as a pet yet eat her kin), and she’s older than the others because she was allowed to grow old as a pet, whilst the young ones on the bus are killed as soon as they’re “big enough”. Kiddo is taken to the slaughterhouse because even though she’s bonded with her captors and been allowed to grow old, she’s still meat to them and that’s all they see her as - maybe she’s the young ones mother, kept for birthing but she’s no longer able to breed - (even the son who saw her as a “pet” and named her). She see’s what’s going on in the slaughterhouse and escapes, then goes home because that’s all she knows, but now she’s no longer seen as a pet, she’s just seen as meat, and the son has learnt “that’s why you don’t name them/get attached”, and she’s eventually killed like all the others on the pig farm. It’s a good premise, no subtlety at all though, it kind of beats you around the head with the message.
There’s another short on here similar to this one with Pollyanna McIntosh, I think it’s called The Herd, which is much more effective, hard hitting and just all around fantastic. I’d recommend that one if you enjoyed this.
I have to disagree with you about the film beating you around the head with the message. It may seem that way after the fact, but I honestly did not know what was happening until they entered the slaughterhouse. I went back and rewatched to see all the clues that were there, which I just didn't pick up on! I had come up with my own interpretation of what was happening. In fact, I wasn't even sure if the son was on Kiddo's side or against her, he looked kind of malevolent! I did not see her as a "pet" at all, so if what is actually happening does not really become apparent until the end, I would say it is in fact subtle. I think the brilliance of it is that the reality of it and the connection to animals hits you in the face and it all makes sense at once, and is that much more shocking and sad. But that's just me!
Thank you for sharing ALTER. We're very proud of it. So many talented folks made this short happen.

This one is....hard to swallow.
It's so reminiscent of the movie Soylent Green
Theory before I finish (halfway through): The "kiddos" are people who are slaughtered and devoured, but the main character is a "kiddo" who's been raised as a part of the family, so the new owner of the family business about including her in the slaughter.

Thanks so much Kathy! That means a lot 💚💚💚
Very thought provoking, I never understand how people can keep one group of animals as pets and love them, then slaughter and eat a different group of animals.
What in the hell is that idiotic song at the beginning!? 😆
Anyways, I love every single short horror film I usually see, so thanks for another upload. You make my days a bit darker. 🖤
alter, you gotta make a video or video series about dating horror stories, the scarier the better, this was amazing!
Alter doesn't make the videos, other people make them and Alter puts them on their channel, no?
Lol the song at the end tho🤣 what a perfect contrast to the gut-wrenching horror of betrayal in this short. Very well done to all involved, the acting and writing with the slow introduction of the story elements was done so well for such a short film

The film is about the slaughter of pigs..young pigs especially on Christmas Eve. The old woman represents that old pig (sow) she give piglets every year...but which ends up being slaughtered!

I mean most of us do eat meat and whereas we know it doesn't just 'come like that' in the supermarket, it is very sad/downright disturbing to stop and think about it for longer than a moment. It's cruel what happens to alot of animals... humans in this short. Excellent work. You showed us the 'humane' way as we'd often call it, and it's still very painful to watch. I've considered becoming a vegetarian before, I'm challenged again.
Thrilled you enjoyed the film and glads that it got you thinking! Thanks very much for watching.
that’s exactly how I’d hoped you’d feel, thank you for your honest feedback. At least it didn’t make you want to make a bacon sandwich like Mr Orange 😂 Scott 🔺
There is no "humane'' way when it comes to slaughter, I finally realized this almost 28 years ago. Everyone makes choices. Stand up for what you believe in, whatever it is. Great film.
@@Nenezilla Thank you. Really pleased the majority of people get the message behind the film.

Just going by the scenery, green and wet.. I knew it was going to be a English film 😂 great work x
Hi Emma, thank you for your comment. We all wanted the film to have a rich, English essence, glad you liked it. Scott
As a vegetarian, I completely understand what you were intending. Great film.
Dont let them fool you, the dairy and egg industry is the meat industry

@@GermanCulture12345 true true, veggies often evolve into vegans over time, and even if they don't they're doing more good than harm.
@@Nenezilla quite right, it's a personal journey
The film is not about animals, I suppose. Only using metaphores from the animal world to describe humans.
This short film reminded me another one from Alter, it's the opposite idea to this masterpiece
This is not horror, its just depressing
personally think it's depressing because the horror is true to life for livestock
Wow. SPOILERS!
I got the cannibal theme right off (I assume that was intentional), but the way this dragged out the story, piece by piece, was really well done. The acting was great, the dialog was well written, the whole production was consistently well done... Kudos to all involved! :)
Thanks for for checking it out and for your kind feedback!
Thank you x 🔺❤️
it's not cannibalism... it's an exceptional transposition of a slaughterhouse owner. Pink represents the color of piglets...those young children and the old piglet
@@stefy82 Right, I understood the slaughterhouse metaphor, but they are still eating people (personifying the 'animals').
As someone who doesn't eat meat, this sang to me... :)
Strange, I have the sudden urge for slow cooked BBQ ribs…
A work of awesomeness, we need a feature-length remake asap!
Gotta say…that was pretty fucked up. This kind of thing, I don’t condone. It’s disgusting and violence is absolutely unnecessary. Unnecessary in real life, that is! But in a horror movie, or this short, I absolutely love it! It was fucking fantastic! I was waiting for this twist, but didn’t expect that. I thought maybe she perceived herself as old but was actually a pre-teen or something. Great job to all involved!
