    Dr. Gehart, I like how you come across through your presentations. I have seen quite a few videos but you have a easy going approach and not at all stuffy or experty, how do you explain your nature?

    So will you put a low functioning and high functioning prefix with each diagnosis?

      Each diagnosis can have different specifiers, most are mild, moderate, severe.

    Dr. Gehart what book was this lecture for? You mentioned the book had sections discussing the assessment in relation to the therotical therapy one may gravitate to? Thanks!

    When you have textbooks on psychiatry, why do you need a DSM?

    • @DianeRGehartPhD
      @DianeRGehartPhD 4 роки тому +1

      This is the diagnosis manual used by professionals. The textbooks teach new practitioners how to think about diagnosis, go about assessing, etc. But it takes years of practice to understand how to use it correctly.

      Because there are few objective tests to prove mental illness as there are for medical illnesses, so those practicing mental health doctoring, came up with "Criteria" for mental illnesses. So there are something like symptoms. A person must meet so many criteria over time to be classified as having a mental illness. These DSM books, make it objective all over the world in assessment, so a person in USA, will be the same in being with Major Depression anywhere.

      Because the DSM isn't the only book used in mental disorders. If you majored in psychology you'll know that.
