TRAPPED on a Boat - Indian Ocean Ep.76
Вставка
- Опубліковано 2 лип 2020
- Not allowed to set foot on shore, unwelcome in any port, we are trapped onboard our 37ft yacht. We are kept in almost constant motion from port to port as we hunt for somewhere that we can stop for provisions and even just a walk ashore. Anxious times onboard Florence.
Filmed in April 2020, don't worry we can get off of the boat now! :-)
We are a British couple who set off from England in 2016 to fulfil our dream of sailing around the world on our 37ft sail boat, Florence. Along the way we share the live aboard lifestyle with the highs and lows of travelling around the world by boat, our own little tiny house. Boat life out at sea on the ocean.

You have not been alone guys. Sailing Doodles got moved on multiple times . As did Rick Moore on Sophisticated Lady, until he got to San Blas I think it is , somewhere off Panama .
Sailing into Freedom got moved and moved & moved again, finally found somewhere by Guatemala I think they are if memory serves. And finally , Sailing Nandji were heading to cross the Indian Ocean like you. They took a mooring ball at Langkawi (not sure if that's spelt right ? ) after taking a lengthy refit to be ready. The mooring ball snapped , they drifted onto a reef and got ground to a paste . At night of course , when else ? Back to Thailand , up on the hard , another month of repair and they're finally ready to hit the Indian Ocean. Oh, the joys of owning a sailboat :)
Good to see you are safe
Amy & Matt you never disappoint. While other channels complain that they have no content due to lockdowns, your creativity talent shines through. Your film making & storytelling is always on point. And always so informative The ending for listing patrons...love it! So unique! 👍
Glad the Indonesian govt understood the blight of the sailing community & provided a safe haven instead of drifting at sea. And Amy thanks for dumbing down the “sailing into the wind” lesson. I needed that. Learnt heaps. You two are my most fav on UA-cam❤️
So glad you got somewhere to shelter from this storm. It must be scary to be all at sea when the world stops. Stay safe guys.
What a nightmare. Amazing too as have been on a boat out of contact of anyone for weeks, you actually presented zero risk of introducing anything
Prayers you guys come out of isolation very soon and resume your dream journey
Look at your channel growing!!! Well deserved 👏.
you guys are tough and inspire me. Always enjoy the state of the wind current and sail.
Amy seems to be taking it in stride but Matt looks concerned and in need of a hug. Big hugs to you Matt. Glad you have a place. I know this is months late. What occured to me was I know you don't have a water maker so what were you doing to conserve water and to obtain water? Rain water? Or did ports allow you to fill your tank? The silly part is being isolated on your own for so long you would be the safest people to welcome in. Funny how the world works. It has to be verifiyable I guess.
I thought about that too (water maker) maybe bartering with another boat? And some how they managed to up load this, so hoping they & others are as comfy as they can be.
Always nice when you post a new video. Glad that you were able to find a safe spot to stay.
I like the clever way that you presented your growing list of Patrons. You deserve all the success in the World, you are great.
Goodness! What a stressful time for you both. Glad you found safe harbour at last. Looking forward to hearing more from Isolation Island :) x
Just found your channel in my suggested videos and si glad I did. I have been binge watching your channel all day. I love your content and you laidback attitude. I have to admit I'm also a bit jealous. Really glad you have a nice place to stay safe now and I'm really looking forward to your next video.
Love the sail theory you guys share. Stay safe out there.
Finally u get to feel safe to anchor great to c u both remain positive in these times it must of been very stressful for u both thank you 🇦🇺
Happy that you found a place to stay where you can go ashore. Hopefully the current situation will improve but we are glad you are safe !
Some of the most powerful thunderstorms I have ever encountered were flying above the Indian Ocean. I have flown in and out of Diego Garcia for months at a time.
Great explanation and graphic using wind shifts.
I truly wish we could support you as patrons but alas we are poor immigrants living safely but leanly thanks to the good graces and good people of Mexico. Persevere and best wishes for safe sailing.
Lucky you have the new sails. Old sails in those winds would have been horrible
Like a dessert with nothing but beautiful scenery
Hi Guys
Stay safe. You are my favourite channel.
And.... You are good humans.
They really are exemplary.
Just hang on in there Matt and 😍Lady Amy😍.....praying for your safe passage
Good know you have been given safe anchorage. Really enjoying your videos for their informative and entertaining content. Stay safe.
Well done and done well. Great to see someone that doesn’t whinge. U r inspirational. Stay happy, healthy and in love. Cheers from Australia 🇦🇺🌹🌹🍷🍷

Ooooh... cute outro with the star patrons. Much nicer than the usual crawl!
Glad all ok during lockdown and you got some needed provisions and fuel. Nice video thanks
Another great video from yous, enjoyed it a lot
Hurray for the people of Nias! My great-great-grandmother was from Nias, the daughter of the Sultan!
Very cool.
Fabulous vlog as always guys we so look forward to catching up on your adventures...
G'day guys,it's certainly a messed up time we're dealing with,so glad you've finally found a place to call home while it lasts.Take care, and best wishes 🙂
Love your videos guys your one of the best sailing youtubers out there.always looking forward to the next adventure.stay safe.👍🙏🤗⛵✌️
i Love Florence!, Fair WINDS Amy and Matt! :)
Thanks so much for the update. Things are crazy but it is so good to see that you have a place to call home for a bit. You are both wonderful and you're videos are so interesting and show the beautiful and challenging side of cruising. Thanks to the govt to allow your to stay and the continual kindness of strangers . Please stay safe and looking forward to the next adventure.!
Awesome Vlog guys safe travels thanks for sharing.
You're a good team! Surviving this C-period will be manageable for you. Wishing you good luck and good health.
I'm glad you guys found somewhere to stay, doesn't look a bad spot,I'd swap in a heart beat!!, stay safe peeps, from drizzly Scotland
Very happy for you two that you find a place to stay.
Stay save ❤❤
All the best. It’s an adventure for sure. Please stay
well and happy.
So now you get to experience a real life survivor show in a private island. What an adventure!
There are many channels that I watch are presently having the same issues as yourselves due to COVID19. It is a benefit having someone else to sail in company with. Great to see you have somewhere to finally stop at. Stay Safe.
Excellent way to promote Rolly Tasker Sails. Also a great explanation of up wind sailing in wind shifts.
I was wondering how you two were doing. I've seen all your videos. Glad you found a place to stay for a while. You're probably fortunate to be alone on your boat because of the pandemic.
So glad to hear the Indonesian government has allowed you and others to anchor and finally have a safe anchorage to stay safe. Our thoughts are with you. Hopefully things will start to improve soon. Be well and stay healthy. Cheers
Can only echo what so many others have spoken. I feel the frustration of the moment, but am glad you are able to report the good people of Indonesia helping to give some security and access to food stuffs in an otherwise precarious position of isolation. Hopefully these next weeks and months will give a better sense of well being. Take care...it’s always good to hear when you’ve found safe harbor.
Quite nice of Indonesia to take of the visiting yachties in such a manner. Would never happen in this country, perhaps that is why we are in such a mess these days neither the isolation nor support for those living on boats. Stay safe, stay healthy and most importantly stay happy.
Good luck it is a very stressful time for all. I hope your journey stays safe.
You are doing fine Florence!
South East Asians are always very helpfull as much as they can
Cheers
This is going to be good! It'll be like Castaway except that you're not!!
Your introduction to wind shifts and cloud readings will sure benefit the audience with little sailing experience. Its nice to see that you find a beautiful anchor place to stay and lots of free baby coconuts too. I am curious about the software and hardware you use to edit your footage. Can you introduce a bit more on this subject ?
Keep up and stay safe.
Good luck guys.
Love following you guys.
Safe, happy sailing from Warsash :) xx
Hello in Warsash! Thank you.
Look out for us sailing past on our way home in 2022 or 2023 ish... ;-)
Great that you found a safe place in the end, and can get some provisions and some exercise. It must be a big relief. All credit to the Indonesian authorities for finding a solution given what else is going on.
You’re welcome here on the US side of the St Lawrence River, I heard this Covid-19 will “magically go away”.(From our Recent ‘Precedent ‘) :(. We really love our life line that you provide, even our frustrations listening to the life style of dealing with locals and government officials, weather and supplies. Thank you. We’ll take our land yacht out back in the hay field for our entire 2020 adventure. :)
Nearly 900 at this time and only ~100 likes?????
You two are great!
45 degrees sailing the direction you want to go means 1.4x the distance.
The feeling that you care about your video viewers is a sort of amiable expirience. The filming of your life from the sea dessert is succesful. Your share your difficult adventure on the Indian Ocean, and make the presentation interesting. Thanks for graph presentation. The technical explanations and practical descriptions of sailing up and down the wind for those who are not sailors is a sort of kindness for me from a couple who has a friendly approach to all people you meet during your journey around the world. All the best for you.
Well said 👍
To continue to entertain may I suggest including some readings, perhaps backed by old or unseen scenery, of various texts (poems) that help you stave off boredom. Not the most riveting stuff compared to oceans new, foreign faces smiling or views cut seemingly from the artist's fantasy of fantasticals. Because out in this 'modern world' who has met and mentally jousted with Kipling's genius, Shelley's eye for detail or Patterson's raw-boned reality.
what a place to isolate.... lingbas you are safe that is all that matters
Stay safe guys! 🙏🏻 💨 ⛵️
How odd this must feel. To become unwelcome drifters! Best of luck finding safe havens.
You guys (and GBU) have inspired me to do the same. I’ve been around the world a few times, but not on a sailboat 😳
Sold a Ducati yesterday. Selling the Jeep today. 2 more Ducati’s and a car left to sell and I’ll be ready 👍🏻
Also, I love how y’all are in SE Asia (the land of cheap sunglasses everywhere), but Matt is still wearing that worn out pair 😂
I hope you're not planning to set off on a cruise around the world. That whole lifestyle in in flux. It may not be possible for some time to come. Look at what a trial our poor hosts are having.
Riverboat I am! It will be a while before I set off though. Probably a year of cutting my teeth around Florida and the Bahamas to start with.
Do it as soon as you possibly can. Wait and something will happen that stops you. Maybe the next pandemic or one world government that restrict free travel or something more personal. God speed and fair winds live it before.. A giant meteorite blows up earth
Thanks guys, great update and really interesting how this Covid thing is affecting everyone including sailors.
Visiting yachts bring some tourist money to a country but not huge amounts. It would have been easy for Indonesia to have just revoked your Visas and made you leave but it sounds like they have taken a very humanitarian stance which is great.
Question for Amy - how do you stay so un-tanned?!? :)
You should export the video in the wide aspect ratio without adding the bars and exporting in 16:9. When you add bars then it does not show properly on ultrawide monitors. It shows as having black bars on top and bottom and left and right. If you export in actual wide aspect ratio then the video will show properly on ultrawide monitor but it will still have bars on top and bottom when watched on a 16:9 monitor.
good onyas,live the dream!
Hi Amy and Matt, hope you are doing well in isolation over there. Thinking about you both, Clare, Robin and Iris on Dog Star 🤗
catching up...
Arrr , weather is the Doldrums
Have you ever seen anything "odd" in the South Pacific? Like weird creatures, or UFOs? I'm being serious. Love your channel big fan!!!
It looked like the new sails were coming into their own. Are you able to sail closer to the wind? The genoa seemed to have a nice flat curve to it.
Hi. Just found you on the you tube and have been watching the Pacific crossing and am currently reading the book by tom neale. Reallt enjoy you content. Keep it coming. By the way were did you get you tender from. Im looking for a little sailing dingy at that ticks the boxes. Thanks again Andrew
Dig the haircut! Thumbs up!
Your videos are amazing and love watching your adventures, it’s inspiring me to take up sailing I’m wondering if either of you get home sick??? Missing family etc?
Hi, Home sick - rarely, look at where we are! Missing family - yes lots, especially since our plans of flying home for the first visit in 4 years have had to go on hold due to the current world situation.
Been not looking at your vids for a while , just catching up , nice main set ,is the jib the same shape all quarters , I see tension battens don’t all ways go through in the lite
Gotta feel for you guys - as if the virus wasn't bad enough, being moved on all the time. It's world wide problem and it's going to take months, years to resolve
Seems a bit like you have been sent to "the edge of extinction island" as in Survivor. Best wishes to you both.
Fantastic channel! Any plans for high or low latitude trips?
Clean bottom , New sails & an island to yourselves - could be worse - Fair winds Oh well back to the lawns .
Propane propane gonna watch the game
Thumbs up to these adventurous robinsons forced to live in a desert island without having had a shipwreck.
Lockdown is eased where I live(we flattened the curve) But i'm right next to a country that is still parabolic and run by a cheeto
your the first I've seen that has the cruisers' island filmed. Haven't heard if its still good or has it turned into lord of the flies type of island?!😟
best I got is Gone with the Wynn's giving updates stay safe!!!
All is good in the small fleet and on the island. We do have a conch and a pig...
most be horrible, stuck on a tropical island for months with a boot full with food. LOL. Have fun
Are you guys still around that area? Any chance on coming round back to Bali again?
Hi Amy. Whats the name of the app you mention at 10.00m please? Any link to find it?
If you haven’t watched to the end you missed something special!
The World Health Organization recommends distancing of 1-2 meters. This "stay away" policy is beyond silly.
Its amazing the Indo Govt were kind enough to allow you all to stay at that island. Just wondering how they are providing you with food there?🌬⛵⚓😎🌴Great video, many thx.
We can order basic groceries to be delivered by boat once a week from the nearest village/town 18 miles away. The service is run by the people who used to supply the surf camps around here, of course the surf camps are all shut due to the lock down.
@@SailingYachtFlorence That's just so good. I know many surfers who used to go pre covid days. Take care and stay well.🌬⛵⚓😎🌴
Not being allowed anywhere is disturbing.
I don't know when this was filmed, but it must be very concerning, what do you do about supplies including drinking water.
This was a a couple of months ago and we were very stressed at the time. As you will see in the next episode we now have a safe anchorage and can order basic groceries. We catch and drink rain water, we can carry 5 weeks of water in Florence and it rains plenty here so it is easy to fill up.
You might be better off in Darwin or even Cocos Island, If thats possible?
I'm not sure I like the way you dropped the harbour master right in it - after he did you a big favour.
Food and fuel and rest are required by maritime law.
In Mexico the cruisers told the local officials that.... No.... They would not leave. And nothing happened.
Remember.... These are government workers.... Not gods.
Get used to it, cause this shit will be lasting the winter
If you don't mind me asking why are they asking you not to Anchor is it over covid-19 or what?
Um...yes.
Um...wow
Well sorry about that if I was going to type something like it and made it a real word
Everyone must fear sailor at sea for many weeks. they could have covid ???? nope. the oposite, land ppl are dangerous for sailors. we are living a global paranoia. many who have died did not receive the care they needed. here 95% who died where our elder left without proper care. good luck to all
Have you asked Jesus to come on board yet ? Even though I think Hes been with you the whole journey, you should. You know this will never end. The quarantine I mean
Trolling?
