Yes ;-) - there is a similar Hobbywing ESC - Ezrun MINI28 - tho this Surpass Mini 18, but it is rather expensive.

Inrunner in that size is never the same like a outrunner…. Even the Furitek Cedar is struggling with slow crawl…. My best hint is use a cheap AM32 ESC and a outrunner Motor…. Thanks for the Video

I have those same tires and wheels on my hobby plus cr-18. I find these wheels/tires much heavier than the stock wheels and tires. Great video Donald!👍🏻🤗

      Thank you.
Still, rims are super light compared to "heavy" wheels - weight recommended. I love those wheels. CR-18 tires and wheels are super light (but beadlock rims, easy to put lead stripes to the rings).

Great video , I have been using the lead golf club tape for a while now and it works great , I use it on most of my trucks it's easy to tune the front and rear weight bias , its a lot cheeper then buying brass wheels , it's works great on the plastic wheel rims too ,
Keep making videos they are very interesting to watch and learn from , stay safe mate 🇬🇧

      Thank you!
Well, I do not think those lead stripes are that cheap (I do have those two types you saw in the video, those "sticky ones", in which you always have to cut off the rounded edges, and those "fishing rolls", and recently bought this one www.amazon.de/gp/product/B095C3JFVJ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 - did not use and show it in this video). They are rather pricy IMO, and at least for 1.0 rims brass inner rings (Injora) are not that expensive, and many wheels do already come with.
Donno any really cheap source for this "golf and fishing lead". Do you have a cheap source?
Anyway, for stock wheels if they are plastic beadlocks those lead stripes are a good and reasonably priced option IMO.
Used those much more frerquently some years ago, when not so many heavy rims were available for micros.
For those super heavy DJ Crawler rims showed for weight comparison I did pay only about 15 € (!!!) for a set of 4 incl. box, etc. - if heavy rims are that cheap... those are a steal (Aliexpress).

Sorry I don't have a link but I just searched on eBay for lead golf tape or just lead tape and quite a few rolls of lead tape came up , i just looked for the best price , depending on how much weight you need to use on the truck I can get around three sets of 4 wheels out of one roll of lead tape so it's a lot cheaper then the brass wheels or brass hex extensions , if i can find a link or just an eBay item number for the lead tape I will send it to you mate 🇬🇧

@@keithbutler6361 Thank you, no, you do not have to find a link. I also bought my lead from Ebay, or Ali, or Amazon - but I never thought this was really cheap (maybe it is also more expensive here for us in EU).
I have quite a bit here, will not buy more in near future.
I only thought, it is not soooo cheap for example in comparison to the Injora brass rings (9 €?), or even some heavy wheels you can get for 15 - 20 bucks nowadays.
I honestly rarely use it now, used lead in my MN111 Defender, where I wanted to (had to) use stock wheels.
But for those wheels and tires I used in this video lead is for sure a very good upgrade, ... such beautyful rims, and so light ;-)

Traxxas gears the trx4m badly out of the box. Wonder how it would do with the low ratio gears. I have a furitek cedar in my trx4m and it would cog a bit too. So I put the crawler gears in it and it is great now. Definitely slower but not crazy slow. It was crazy fast before lol

I put the same Gecko Mini 18 in my TRX4M and experienced the same disappointment…. It really is nowhere near as good as the Furitek Lizard Pro. However after switching to the 40.3:1 crawler gears in the transmission and under drive gears in the rear differential, with Start Mode (Punch) set to 3 and Initial Start Force set to 1, I do find that the slow crawl is much better and consider this an upgrade over the stock Traxxas motor/ESC combo. I bought 2 of these, thinking it would be a cost effective alternative to the Lizard Pro. I do still plan to install the second one because with the right gears and FOC it really is an upgrade, but in hindsight, the Furitek LizardPro/Venom starter kit is only $30 more where I live and would have been well worth the extra money.

I also bought 2 from Hobbyking, because they were so cheap ;-) - wanted to order forever from Fair RC or BG, but always hesitated because of the price (equal or even more expensive than Furitek). When HK had it last year, for less than 50 bucks (plus customs and shipping), I immediately ordered.
Donno yet what to do with no. 2 - probably good for a trail truck or even street car.

oh man, what a disappointment! i wish you made this a couple of months earlier before i wasted money on this during black friday :D (still didn't find the time to install it in the Austar trx4m clone...)
and after your thorough excellent analysis, i think i'd rather get a Meus 2speed for the trx4m, and try putting this combo inside a FMT24! (once i found enough time, hopefully this summer)

About the Program Card, I had to search for the one that specifically says “SUPPORT GECKO MINI 18 ESC” on the front of the card at the bottom. I found it on AliExpress and it took forever to arrive but it does work. Another important note… I found that all the initial values for all the program settings were defaulted to ‘1’. That’s not really a big deal, with 1 exception….the Low Voltage Cut Off. ‘1’ correlates to 2.9V which is not good for LIPOs . 2=3v, 3=3.1, 4=3.2, 5=3.3, etc, up to 9=3.7v.

    • @donaldsneffe
      @donaldsneffe 4 місяці тому

Thank you! I will search on Ali. Can you change settings? (for example motor direction)
LVC is completely unimportant for me, because I never drive my trucks "to the end" ;-) - I check voltage. So I am good.
