As a Police Sergeant, I've always developed a talent when it pertains to writing arrest reports, especially nowadays when we have been introduced to the idea of using Bodycam videos in said report writing
As someone who is highly skilled in writing and a future law enforcement officer in HKSAR this video helped me so much that my writing skills boosted like a rocket. Thank you for the tips!
As a supervisor for a security company I wish more guards and officers will take note of videos such as this (yes, majority of us are armed working as the front line for places the cops frequent). Too many of these individuals working at these companies take this job as the babysitter's club and it's infuriating to try to get these people off their arse to to fill out reports for incidents and shift reports. Stellar job as always 401, thank you.
Officer 401, you have truly inspired me and helped me get into my dream job. I am 22/32 weeks into Lexington Kentucky's Police Academy (It is long, I KNOW!). You are a huge part as to why I am where I am. All of your videos have helped me significantly throughout the entire process. Thank you for what you do, and keep inspiring people.
Long time subscriber here. Thank you for your time and dedication to making these videos. Lots of valuable information. Even though there’s a lot more to it than a 10 minute video, you’re helping prepare me for my career with this series (fingers crossed). For that, I thank you. Stay safe out there!
Thank you for this video, right now I’m in the police academy and I have 2 weeks left to graduate and I know for a fact that I need to improve on how I write my police report
Interval training in the form of combining sprints with jogging/walking is very effective at getting you into good cardio shape in a short amount of time. There's a lot of ways to do it, but the general concept is short bursts of sprinting as fast as you can.
This definitely helped out a lot learning how to write a good report I have a little bit of experience in security writing reports which should help when I transition over to law enforcement hopefully this coming fall
I graduated the academy in April. I’ve had to testify in court 3 times already. Our department policy has a format for all officers to write reports including the narrative. The narrative follows this format: Source of activity, initial officer observations, victim statement, witness statement, officer investigation, arrest, booking, evidence, impound, additional information.
As an EMT for a private ambulance company, I concur with the "I don't like report writing" sentiment; however, as someone who wants to get into LE, your example of a report was very good, though daunting, to hear. Those were a lotta frickin details, for me, and people at my company say I write detailed reports.
My dream department in Oregon I did a tour with me and my dad and the officer said all reports have to be done before your shift is over so one thing I'll try do is after every call try and at least get it started and hopefully by the time I return to the station I just have a little bit left to do
Love this. I'm currently in week 11 at police academy. Our class is quite a bit further ahead than this (We just finished S.T.O.P.S) but its nice to have this refresher on report writing in the weeks coming up to our final test.
@@danielkatz1139 Not too bad. Just pay attention in class. Ask questions you arent sure about. Take good notes. And try to do study sessions with other recruits before big tests. 80% of academy is going to be spent in a classroom so plan accordingly.
I just wanna say thank you for your videos and please keep doing what you’re doing. Because of you I was accepted to the Sheriffs department in my area. Had some issue come up with the Academy in my state and now get to restart the process. Your videos have helped leave an impression on my Sheriff’s department that they cannot wait for me to reapply. Thank you💙🤍💙
Ugh bad timing. I literally jus finished my chapter on report writing on Friday. It was a long 2 weeks but I learned alot with the instructors. Great video
Must be stressful if an officer needs to memorize every detail in a report before getting on the stand, sounds really easy to mess up a street address being responded to from memory, nevermind if there is a chase and streets and addresses start to multiply.
Can u do a video on what longterm duty belt use does to the body... It's one of the things I don't ever really heard talked about... My hips kill me 😅😂😅
I’m currently completing my application in GA. Loving this series. You stated to review body cam footage before writing a report. In GA is it legal or permitted to utilized personal audio recorders as a secondary backup in the event a body camera fails to function properly?
I'm not a cop (I did consider it when I was younger), and I am way past my prime to even try. but I still find this channel incredibly interesting. a big THANK YOU to officer401
Gotta make fun where there isn’t - nothing wrong making some funny moments from an interaction get a little bit of extra “pizzazz” in the report for yourself and for your Staff Sgt that has to read all of them all day
Question... When quoting an individual in a report, and layered talking or some otherwise natural or unnatural sound occurs over their speech, and it is hard for the officer to determine what they said, is it sensible to simply add the tag (unintelligble) to the dialogue you are quoting?
so just double checking what I heard, because it was my fear I was going to have to remember everything I did on patrol that day if I became an officer, is it true we can look back at our body cams while writing/proper paperwork for the report and or no?
Random question I don’t know if you’ll even see this, but I’m interested in going into law enforcement mostly federal agencies. I know you need a undergraduate degree to meet qualifications in most. Do you suggest studying Criminal justice or a different subject area of interest. Heard from many cops that you want a degree outside of the field of law enforcement, because you’ll learn all you need in an academy/ other training.
it depends if you want to loose a minor crime. because it wasn´t worth spending a few minuts extra writing the report. say someone do a bit of speeding. it´s a bit to much to give a warning. they want to take it to court and they got a good lawyer
Crazy question. Is your goal in life and career to convict the person you determine to be a suspect or to convict the guilty? Everything you say is about defending what you initially say. Nothing is about making sure you suspect the correct person.
Thank you. You are apart of the 1130 crew because you are alive today. I can't bring people back from the dead. I am only a human being. Thank God we're all alive today. Barack Obama, michelle obama, and Jorge aviator durkin are the holy trinity. 😳
genuine question(s): have you seen/what are your thoughts about police officers wearing glasses? there’s no way ALL of you see 20/20.. but i don’t often see officers wearing glasses. is life harder? should i get contacts for physical activities ?
I can't speak for him, but personally, if you have ever just wrestled with friends while wearing glasses, how many times have they come off? How well can you see without them? Can you reliably defend yourself or your fellow officers and citizens without them? If the answer is no, get contacts.
Are you allowed to use your bodycam footage to add details to the report? Let's say you don't remember exactly what John Doe was wearing, can you just get that information from the body camera and write it in the report as his description when you saw him exit a vehicle?
My question is, why would you wait so long to run after the suspect? ( He crossed the street… Then you ran after him??! )😂😅😂(Yes, I’m being a smart ass,)😆
Please do a video on the arrest of a Christian in reading pa. I support police and am in the process of becoming a game warden but am very upset about what I saw.
I definitely do not wait until the end of shift to do my reports. I’m lucky we’re able to get them done after each call, usually.
As a CSO in the upper midwest I do the same thing.
As a Police Sergeant, I've always developed a talent when it pertains to writing arrest reports, especially nowadays when we have been introduced to the idea of using Bodycam videos in said report writing
"I quickly mounted Mr. Doe"

>Shift ends in an hour.
>SHTF!
>Work 2 hours over writing reports.
Every single time.

How is it going now brother?
did you finish?
Any update @gyffen? Hope you are on the road now staying safe!
I didn’t expect police reports to be so different from EMS reports.
Just hit the 1 year mark and I could honestly say the hardest part for me is report writing.
Congrats on passing the probationary stage
Love you 401, been a fan for a few years now. Keep up the great work

This series is pretty neat. Reminds me of the old videos. Look forward to the next one as always!
Thank you so much for all this.
Something I definitely got sit down and take the time to get better at phenomenal video. Thanks 401
You are the best officer 401. Also loved your interview on that podcast.
Thank you for this video, right now I’m in the police academy and I have 2 weeks left to graduate and I know for a fact that I need to improve on how I write my police report
great break down not a lot of people talk about
I used to get your videos suggested to me all the time and now I don't... glad to see your still making content!
Love your videos, they will help many new officers
This Job is 98% writing 2% hollywood
Accurate!
I'm a patrol officer from Israel and I really enjoy your videos, it's quite amazing how similar things here are to the USA
I forgot about this series. What a nice surprise!

Im glad I have experience with report writing, All the years of working armed security in a HOA paid off for this

I mounted Mr. Dough and began kneading until he was flattened into a pizza of favorable dimensions.
I’ve seen all your videos
And I can’t find any of your videos with you without a 🧢
The sherrifs office put me in corrections man lol
I’m convinced you need to start teaching in the police academy.
I wish I would have had these videos while I was going through the police academy
It's all about the verbs and nouns
Can u do a video on what longterm duty belt use does to the body...
It's one of the things I don't ever really heard talked about...
My hips kill me 😅😂😅
I still prefer our boy clean shaved. His baby face makes him look like he's wearing a Halloween beard. Still love ya buddy! lol

What if you’re department doesn’t allow you to watch your bodycam before writing your report? I’m in DC
You didn't mention to add attack helicopters to the car crash diagram!

Officer401, did you know you had a cameo on John Oliver's show? What were your thoughts?
Dream is too work in 👮 and 🔥 firefighter.
so just double checking what I heard, because it was my fear I was going to have to remember everything I did on patrol that day if I became an officer, is it true we can look back at our body cams while writing/proper paperwork for the report and or no?
Yo can you review the teenage boy that got shot in San Antonio McDonalds parking lot ?

I’ll start writing my reports better😮
Ah yes... Your RMS will never crash. Muhahahahahaha!
"Reports the blood line of police work"- End Watch
How often do reports have to be that descriptive? Just with more serious incidents I would think?

Bro that beard gtgo
I’m just trying to be like the 18 year salt dog patrolman that clears a homicide with nothing but call notes.
Jorge avicdor durkin
Yoooo
We gonna get a response to that John Oliver piece??????????????????

what if the arrest and the incident was at the police station?

What FTO is expecting from you regarding a report writing ???
Why no more car videos :/
Does the taser hurt? Is it something I should be afraid of?
Fear the noise u may make as they record it.. so I hear.

If it’s not in the report, it didn’t happen
Can you wish me a happy birthday tomorrow please
I failed my first entry exam because of grammar

Yes, depends on the case and per department
Yes you are allowed to use your body can to review the footage but you have to do it back in your department
My question is, why would you wait so long to run after the suspect? ( He crossed the street… Then you ran after him??! )😂😅😂(Yes, I’m being a smart ass,)😆
WHAT COUNTRY IS THAT FLAGG FROM???????????????????????????????????????????????????
It would've been nice if you dont have to write anymore and just use your body cam as your report. 😂 But thank you for this vid
I wonder if y'all could start using ai to help with reports. Might make the process a bit easier.
second
