      +cyotheking Yeah I put 0:22 because you say "Notice how I don't do things like U U' and waste moves" right as you do it.

    "But Chris, this is boring, how does this help me get faster !? I am turning slower, not faster, you need TPS to be fazt !" -> your immitation here is really excellent xD

    I just started slow turning and looking ahead and I'm already noticing a significant increase in my efficiency. I can't wait to see what the results will be in a week. Thanks for the tip!

      My slow tps is like .2 so this might take a while lol

    • @MaximilianBerkmann
      @MaximilianBerkmann 9 років тому

      +Johnny Horstman It depends on your targeted average/barrier which depending on how efficient you are on average would requires a specific tps which could be reachable in a variable amount of time depending on you.

    Very few videos exist on the topic of Look-ahead, as it's kind of hard to describe it... and no video truly teaches Look-ahead, nor habits to improve it.
    This is different! Thanks for finally giving UA-cam a good video on SUCH an important speedsolving topic, Chris!

    • @PoKeKidMPK1

      +cyotheking should you learn intuitive and than the algs???? or just do one (and which one is better?)

    • @dabestskewber4735
      @dabestskewber4735 9 років тому

      +MrPokeKid1 Use intuitive and then learn algs for slow cases

    • @PoKeKidMPK1
      @PoKeKidMPK1 9 років тому

      +dabestskewber when should i learn those algs? and how will i know what these "slow cases" are?

    • @G0DofRock
      @G0DofRock 8 років тому +1

      +JMSpeedCubing Agreed, intuitive til you think you're peaked and then study algs when you know which cases are a bitch for you personally and make those a strength through simple algs of your choosing...
      If you have no idea if your f2l is peaked, you arent..when the only thing you think you can do is look ahead more or just 'be faster' then its time for algs.

    You have great advice; not "wasting moves" is actually very important in Graph Theory and P&NP Problems. Unfortunately most people will do anything to avoid thinking, (and even more avoid planning.) At some point between the moment we begin to "understand it" and the moment we realize it's easier to "memorize it" we choose memory over planning so we can comfortably shift into "auto-pilot." This might sound like a weird but "Chess" and "Go" are great remedies for this.

  • @codernunk

    I agree with everything you said in the video. Unfortunately, I was never able to get myself past the fact that I had to practice this consistently. Albeit boring, this lookahead practice helped when I did it, but it was hard to see concrete results unless I was able to put myself in front of a timer and see my times. Of course, I was never able to get past 12 seconds because I never practiced this as much as I should have. Your video definitely explained this very well, and highlighted the exact struggles I went through when I was cubing more often.

    I think this video is really good. Thanks, Chris! I'm at an intermediate level (4-look last layer) and am down in the low 20s (just set an avg. of 12 at 21.61). I know the F2L is my weakest part right now, especially because I do not have a look ahead. I found this really helpful.

    i started cubing 1 month ago along with some collagues at school and i still have the shittiest cube, after my teacher took my rubiks brand 2.0 (not that bad) and i got one for free that has the peaces identical to the first rubiks. when i solve on a speedcube at school i'm always the fastest (avg sub 40 pb 25) because my cube locks up so insanely much that i only slow solve on it and i try to be very economical (i avg like 50 sec. with it). the good thing is that in 2 days my valk 3 arrives and i'll train alg speed too. i use two look cfop ( i used the beginners method like a week)

    So I’m a cfop solver who uses intuitive f2l (no algs) and 4-look last layer and I average around 35 seconds with pretty much no look-ahead. What do you recommend me to do next, learn f2l algs, learn 2-look last layer or just work on look-ahead? This would help me out a lot thanks 😊

    • @bernardthepoet2713
      @bernardthepoet2713 6 років тому

      Work on full pll first then learn some f2l algs but not too many because a lot are unnecessary to become fast. Focus the most more on f2l efficiency because f2l is the most important part. Full oll is optional but if you plan on learning that make sure your full pll is already learned. Don't be too concerned with look ahead until sub 20

      Bernard the poet Thanks! I’ve learned about 2/3 of full PLL and I’m working on F2L efficiency and look ahead by doing slow solves. I’m about sub-23 right now so I must be doing something right 😊
