Suicide Attempt in Iceland | Idiots at Reynisfjara Beach. Please Don't Do This.

- Reynisfjara beach already claimed the lives of 5 people. Dangerous sneaker waves come out much further than normal waves. People who are caught by the sea will inevitably succumb to strong currents and freezing water.
Rip current + sneaker waves, which this beach is known for both, are very deceptive. Looks like a normal beach, but they just appear and pull you in and away, then keep pulling you away into that cold water. You can see where that guy was standing and goofing around, the lull inbetween the breakers right at the shore line, along with that sneaky sheet of water coming in from the side, indicate the head of a rip current. Thats why people tell you not to goof around in the water, even if it looks safe. People drown every year, or at least have to be rescued a half mile out.
word
If ever caught in a rip just swim sideways any direction immediately
Stfu, maybe if they actually got in the water. But they didn’t
@@matsalvatore9074definitely swim sideways if ever caught in any rip current/wave onslaught. Water is no joke and it will punish you if you are foolish or unlucky enough that it gets the best of you.
@@matsalvatore9074doing that in 5 degree celsius isn't as easy as it sounds.
Caption should be "Very poor attempt at suicide, sufficient for clickbait. "
Exactly. Downvote it to lower their algorithm
It is not that type of suicide as in intentional suicide. It is the type of suicide when youth play 'chicken' in the Danger Zone. Survival may be the intent but as with walking on thin Ice trying to see who can get as far from the ground bank as possible. A young child may not understand that falling through the thin Ice has a very serious risk as breaking through at first will take his breath away as the shock of near freezing water hits him and then the river currant could drag the person under the Ice or under thicker Ice. In my youth pre the age of ten abouts I used to play spits with a friend (You know splits (Like Chicken but with a knife)). It's not so dangerous with a small light knif or a pocket knife. You take turns at throwing the knife to stick in in the ground by your friends feet and he has to place his foot where the knife stuck in the ground or if the knife bounced out he gets to keep his position with his legs apart if already partly split. Well the young pre teens do not always understand so much and whilst the game may seem almost innocent enough with a little knife. Does the child understand a Cooks Knife or Butchers knife which is usually bigger and heavier than a cook's knife. Weighing in at about a kilo with an intenional steel sharp point it can go through a shoe. Designed to go through flesh and bone it can go though a shoe, skin and through some of the foot's bone depending on how it lands. So there is a big difference in the risks with little and large but a youth may be too young to understand. Or like playing chicken on train tracks. So here we have suicide which is not intentional. But a fatality is a possible result of playing Chicken on a dangerouse known beach with dangerouse RIP currants.
Literally not a suicide attempt 💀 bro just be having fun
It happens where i live ( Madeira Island). We have huge Atlantic waves during winter and sometimes tourists disappear. It's warm water here, i imagine there. Thanks for sharing.
That is BS. I don't know why you would say that about a suicide.

If you can see waves crashing but the water isn't being pushed up on the shore its because it is getting sucked back out under the waves as fast as the waves are pushing the water up on top.

Yes and no. This is an infamously dangerous beach due to its sneaker waves and rip currents- very much like our coastline here in Oregon. Yes, had something happened and they ended up in the water, it mightn’t have been good. But on this day the wave action is such that there aren’t exceptionally strong rips, and the size and periodicity of these waves aren’t of the type to produce large “sneaker waves”- which are too often conflated w some iteration of a “rogue wave” but are really just the largest waves in a set, typically emerging when, on a dynamic day, a series of troughs have aligned, drawing the mass of water back, which then rebounds to shore en masse. They can come on like tsunami and exceed the other waves’ reach by several times. But (and saying this, we always recall never to turn our backs on the ocean, and to keep in mind the terrifying counter-example from Durban yesterday) this day’s waves and touristic craziness aren’t nearly as much “suicide attempt” level idiocy as many other UA-cam vids from this same beach. Google “Oregon sneaker wave” to see what the OP is warning against (or, of course, “Iceland black beach sneaker wave,” etc.
@oceantree, I know all about Oregon's infamous "sneaker waves." I once took a photo of my dear husband standing on a large beach rock, then suddenly told him to get off there immediately. A few seconds later a huge sneaker wave came impossibly far up the beach and washed over that high rock. It's not that I saw it coming, I just suddenly knew. Sheesh!
@@mt.shasta6097 I’m hoping everything worked out ok!!
Oh my god someone stop those mad men!! I can’t believe they both attempted suicide by running to the shoreline and back, we need to see a change
How do we even know if this was a suicide attempt? This is clickbait!
My friend. That is a VERY particular beach in Iceland. I was there last week and they tell you repeatedly not to get less than 12 ft away from the waters edge. That beach is called "Chinese takeaway" for a reason. Mainly because it's usually Asian tourists loosing their lives by being swept out to sea by deadly sneaker waves. If you get pulled to sea, nobody comes after you. They call the coast guard to fish your frozen corpse from the water. If they can find it. You die of hypothermia in 15 minutes in that water and it doesn't even matter if you're Michael Phelps. You ain't swimming out of those currents. So yes. That's attempted suicide.
@@njerikiarie8928 They didn’t even go into the water.. a suicide attempt would’ve been them running into the water and letting it take them, therefore you could title it suicide attempt but it’s literally 2 people running to the shoreline and back ahaha.
@@sweatymexican3753 again... There have been deaths from people standing as far back as 6 ft away from the shore. These guys went straight to the edge. On that beach what they are doing is attempted suicide. You really don't know how dangerous it is until you go there. People die often there.
@@njerikiarie8928 Even if what you are saying is true which I doubt this is clickbait BS.

@@josephshields2922 Well if you are paying in dollars then likly they charge the USA surcharge. Of course the Stetsan and $90.00 cigar gives a lot away. But an egg salad in Iceland? How many chickens do you think survive in Iceland? LOL. Of course I am just having a laugh a bit. But today is April the 9th and there is still snow in the air and freezing cold nights. Yes for sure there are some chickens indoors some where. But their economy is very othen a fishing economy. So likly for half the price of an egg you could likly get a great fish deal. Salad. LOl That is another luxury Item in the Tundra.
Look at Grindavik. 4,000 residents and one Green House. Of couse they have some tomatos there but the closest Island where they can be grown is over a thousand miles away (England) where the costs are already high. So they would need to go an extra 2 thousand miles to get reasonable buying prices. North Atlantic sea for about half the year have waves larger than houses and so need suitable boats.
LOL-I tell you as a Tourist myself. I have been looking at grindavik since the beginning of the Fourth Eruption and have to this date still not seen a shop. I am sure there must be one.
The scenery being a stark volcanic land scape where the Islands surface may be basalt black for 30 miles in either direction and if not coated with sterile basalt there may be some Tundra moss. Wind swept snowy cross winds blowing freezing hazards such as sulphur gas and carbonised fuems across a barren wildeness. Yes you pay for those brave enough to sit milles from civilisation in such a stark basaltic desert. Same with many places in England where you have a lone shop high up on the Moors. They saw the tourists coming ten years before they arrived. I live where if I walk to shop eastwards for five minutes I walk in to the tourist price areas where as if I walk westwards for five minutes I can but twice as much for half the price. Prices just get higher and higher the closer you get to the main tourist attraction. Those places closest will have gold buttons on their coats and be able to offer you silver cutlery and tongs for your sugur cubes. LOL
Omg his feet got wet, someone call rescue,911
They jokingly call this the Chinese takeaway beach. As I have witnessed, Chinese tourists, even with a guide, aren't good at obeying rules and listening to advice. If you do that on Reynisfjara beach, you are risking your life.
There are dangerous swells and surges there. A tourist got swept out to sea and drowned a couple of weeks ago doing just this and that happens a couple of times every year.
@@olagisrarikis I know not to go on the sand during a big swell at the beach
I remember crouching down at more-or-less that very spot to take pictures on a visit to Iceland a few years ago. It's a fascinating place.
Nobody had told me about the dangers of the water there, but there was no chance of me going in anyway. And I'd say there's no chance of these going in either.

I dont know what is more scarier this video or google watching my every step but i do t really see this an coimcidence geting this as a recommendation after my holiday in iceland
I live in the coastline of west Norway, and I can tell that there is nothing scary in this video, maybe for people who are not use to it, but I grew up with windy beaches and waves, in a big storm its not recomended, but this is nothing compared to how it can be, the worst thing that can happen is to get wet in your shoe 😂
i believe you.
Haha lol. These waves have killed a few over the years. You see the suction that is created is sometimes so strong that it will suck you out to the ocean harder then a bangkok hooker and there is nothing you can do about it when it happens
So people dying there regularly are just drama queens I guess as are the locals posting warning signs with the casualties.
The whole point, I think, is that tourists who aren't "used to it" are risking their safety here. It reminds me of the tourists in Yellowstone casually walking up to a 1200 pound bull bison to get a selfie and it's breeding season. Or trying to pet a bison calf with its mom ten feet away. Scary is relative. I see nothing scary about an eastern diamondback rattlesnake (I have respect, however) but others might not agree.
@@melodyszadkowski5256 Yes I see your point. But a Norwegian who have lived in Norway all of my life, at the westcoast, I also have respect for storm and hurricane, and in a international perspektive this what you see in the video is might considered as a storm, but we just see it as windy, this is like the weather almost everyday. And in the summer, even children take a bath in the sea under such circumstances, and the parents are not even seen as irresponsible for allowing their children to swim in such waves with the supervision of adults, as long as one does not go too far from shore. As a child, I swam in stronger currents and bigger waves than what we can see in the video, my mother thought it was okay as long as I didn't swim too far from shore, and she supervised me while I swam. Children from the age of 7 - 10 love to swim in such waves, and in our West Norwegian mentality it is not seen as irresponsible
But when you are not used to this and have not grown up with such circumstances, then you should of course be much more careful
Why is there a transcript and why does it say "so so you"?
Do NOT IGNORE the warnings in Iceland!!
Ironically I guess they have less chances to be caught in a sneaker wave as they're constantly paying attention to the waves. The true danger is when someone is unaware of the ocean.
Oh that's true
This reminds me of when someone sees a bear in the woods and captions it "I survive Bear encounter" and the dummies comment "Wow, you are lucky to be alive"

That's creepy - those giant wave crashing right in front him and then and just immediately disappearing underneath themselves.
That's freaky, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near that. That's just all kinds of wrong.
