I think it will be very interesting to see how creative you are using blacks and browns. Already the black gingham and dots sounds great and the dress behind you is fantastic!
Love your pink gingham dress! For a beginner sewist you are not afraid to tackle complicated projects and it looks terrific!!! Love your videos ! Good look on May sewing journey!!!!
Your vlogs could never be boring...even if you did make the same thing over and over again 😋. You are very entertaining and funny 😁. I have a noisy washing machine too 😉. I love your makes and what a pain about your neckband...did you cut it out with the long length going towards the grain...which would have given you the stretch... or in the same way as the body pieces? I would unpick the overlocking stitches and if you don't have enough of the same fabric, you could use the same type of jersey but pick out a colour that's in the flowers as a contrast maybe 🌸. It's all part of the learning and trust me...you never stop learning or making boo-boos...ask me how I know 😉😁👍💝😘
Your pink gingham is adorable! Black gingham would be great--or black polka dots. Was your fabric for the Freya top a 2-way stretch and maybey ou cut it out with the least amount of stretch going around instead of the most amount of stretch going around? If you have enough to redo, maybe cut it out again...
Does your turtleneck fabric stretch more in one direction than the other? If you are running short on fabric you can piece the neck band on the sides and additionally in the back and as long as you’ve use the correct stretch grain.
How about cutting straight down through the turtleneck and garment either front or back, and inserting an exposed zipper in a complimentary color . . . Maybe about 10” long. Keep sewing. You are delightful to watch.
If you had some seam allowance left on the center back seam of the neckband, maybe you could take it out a bit? Otherwise, I agree with everything everyone has already said. Sorry, that sucks. For the Friday Pattern Co dress, I would toile it first without a lining, then use the good stuff and do a lining. Love the Tabitha dress, that brown is a gorgeous color!
I also love bright patterns! I like that you aren’t going to totally basic black. My me-made pledge is to start tracing instead of cutting . We’ll see how it goes😀
I absolutely love your videos. They’re so down to earth and you’re not afraid to ask for help ❤️ Unfortunately I can’t help you because I’m still procrastinating about starting my own sewing journey!
Re whether you should line the button up dress, I wouldn't. Either wearable slop, or use rayon poplin rather than challis. Poplin is a little less drapy, but still enough for the dress. But then, I would rather eat glass than line anything , lol.
I had a similar problem (with a different pattern) to the one you had with the Freya. Stretch fabrics sometimes have more stretch in one direction than the other. Make sure the neck piece is cut with the most stretch going around your neck. You might be able to unpick it and attach new neck piece (if you have fabric left over) with overlocker not trimming off any fabric from the bodice but trim off from the neck piece the right amount. Hope that makes sense.
I don't have enough me made items for May, either. Most of my me made items are for fall and winter. I'm making a spring/summer wardrobe now. I have a tendency to buy all the pretty fabrics and not pay attention to whether it fits into my current wardrobe or not. I'm trying to get better about it. I have 5 pieces of different black fabrics waiting to be made into pants. I might use a medium weight cotton or linen to make that dress so you don't have to line it.
I see peeps have already given you advice on your Freya, hope you managed to find enough fabric to maybe re-cut the neck band 🙈 the fabric is gorgeous 😍 glad to see your Granda's curtains are all finished up and looking good 🎉
i'm guessing you may have cut the turtleneck on the lengthwise grain (non-stretch) instead of the crossgrain, which stretches. if you don't have enough fabric to recut the turtleneck, could you do a narrow neckband and just make it a tshirt instead?
How funny I'm wearing a jarrah today in that same ochre patterned fabric. I thought it wouldn't be stretchy enough for the neck band so used ribbing. I've learnt the hard way.... if you cut the neck band off now you will have a very large scooped neck but I'm not sure what other option there is. Also I always cut neckbands on the bias x
Firstly, congratulations on reaching 1k subs, secondly my machine is noisier than yours and thirdly that pink gingham looks great on you! Sewing solid colours can be boring to sew, but they are more practical as can go with so many things, but I think the Gilbert top will look amaaaaazing in that fabric.
Re the freya, I think you cut the collar on thr horizontal grain, rather than the vertical. Been there. Done that. I hope you have enough fabric to recut it and sew it in.

Thanks so much Andrea, appreciate it xx
I love fun fabrics too, but practical, basic makes aren't boring.
You are right, I need to remember that!! Thank you for watching xx

Ahhh Sally that's so lovely!!! thanks so much!!! Not enough fabric to cut again sadly but I have unpicked it all and gone with a contrast ribbing! x
Great to catch up again! Regards Christine 🙋♀️🇦🇺👍🏻😃😍😃😍
Thanks Christine! Love seeing your name pop up in the comments xx

Thanks CJ, I love the idea of a black gingham! Not enough fabric to cut again sadly but I have gone with a contrast ribbing! x
I would cut it off and buy some ribbing in a contrast colour. Hope this helps. Enjoy your vlogs.
Hi Lorraine, thank you for your advice, that's exactly what I have done!! xx

Thanks so much Sharon!! You got this xx

hahahaha I feel the same about the thought of lining!! definitely will go with a stiffer cotton for the first attempt x

Hi Dee, that is definitely what I do as well. Hope the pants go well! x

ahhh I didn't have enough! So I had to use white ribbing instead... doesn't look amazing but oh well!! xx

Owwwww that’s such a nightmare!! Thanks for the help though. Maybe I’ll have to unpick the overlocker seams and attach a ribbing neckband? Xx

Thanks so much Hales!!! Yeah I do need to sew more solid colours and remember that they aren't boring! x

Thanks Karen, I actually didn't have enough fabric sadly so had to go with a contrast ribbing! x
Find which way the fabric stretch the most then cut you neck band that way.
Maybe cut a different fabric that has more stretch for the neck? Good luck it's a beautiful color!❤
Thank you! x
