I think this is a very unique song. It captures the point after an ended relationship where you don't necessarily want to get back together but it still bothers you when they move on.
excellent point, i love your interpretation! tbh i never really looked at the song that way, having my own "analysis" in mind and seeing it all from my own point of view. namely, i see it from the perspective of somebody regretting not having given a potential relationship a try, or nor acting on it, and then saying i don't want your body, i rather want your soul, i miss your company now that the time has passed and we didn't try to make things work out.

A lot of people like this song because they think it's a breakup song and that's cool but to me its so so so much more than that. It's about you losing yourself to yourself. And that little part of your soul that is trying to reach out to you to remind you that it's there and it still loves you is getting lost in the self destructive journey of this world. Essentially I see it as a break up song to yourself in hope of reconciliation. And that is why the 1975 is the shit and the boys are Amazing lyricists.

I'm reading thru fan theories and am really excited about what others would come up with. I hope it makes sense, but here's my theory:
Matty & the girl from Robbers were so in love with one another. Too in love that it became destructive (with all the drugs and robbing and Matty getting shot) and in the end it didn't work out. A Change of Heart shows how Matty tried to fight for their relationship but the girl had a "change of heart" and left him. In Somebody Else, it starts off with Matty removing his clown make up and he changes into his regular clothes. I think this shows his grieving process with the loss of their relationship--how he's trying to become his old self which he lost in the relationship he had. Matty then goes out into the world trying to move on after finding out that the girl was in love with somebody else. But in the end he realizes that all he needed to do was love himself.

It is even more different when you've just broken up with somebody who has been toxic in the relationship, someone who has been trying constantly to turn off your light. I decided to put an end to a relationship with a person who has been doing this to me for the past 9 months, and the fact the the break up came up from me doesn't mean it's being easy to me. The more I learn about Matty, the more I listen to him, to his songs, the more I love him. Controversial, but so down to earth, so candid, so honest, no BS. It's all about authenticity, it's so refreshing to see this type of talent. In a world of Kardashians and all crappy music, this is so good and not only because of that! This would always be a great song. You can see how the 80's and 90's impacted him and play a role on whatever he creates. Just learned that one of his favourite songs is also mine. Love you Matty ❤

There were two themes that I understood from this video. Before this video I thought this song was talking about how Matty was upset because the other person was with somebody else. Secondly, was that in order to love somebody else you must first love yourself. It is such a coincidence that I texted some guy last night at 4:00 a.m. saying that I had to love myself first before I love anyone else. Last night was a really sad night I picked all my flaws and told myself how could somebody love me with all these flaws? In the chorus "I don't want your body But I hate to think about you with somebody else
Our love has gone cold You're intertwining your soul with somebody else" it made me think about how in the video he interprets that he is picturing himself with somebody else and he hates that because he knows that he is no longer in love with himself. Which I can relate with at this moment in my life. Just like in the beginning of the video he doesn't listen to himself and the other him is just going on with life without truly not loving who he is.
Wonderful interpretation! that's exactly what I was thinking the deeper meaning behind the video and lyrics were. Hence the reason he keeps staring at himself. plus in the background at the karaoke bar, it says "me me me me me me me me"...shadowing the exact meaning you explained!

Maybe there isn't always one or maybe we are projecting our inner emotions onto these videos and songs and we don't even realise, or maybe we're seeing exactly what they want us to see. It's amazing. The way each fan interprets the music and videos, I think tells a story about their life and who they are just as much as the story The 1975 tells us and show us.

Did anyone notice at 0:19 when Matty took his shirt off, the voices said: "uuuh" and we're very exited about seeing him shirtless? I think it represents that his whole life is like a tv show, because now he's famous and he has to work all the time. It's like people are constantly watching his every move. He just came from a music video (A Change Of Heart) and he sat down like two seconds, then he had to go out to the other music video (Somebody Else). And the two seconds he sat down, he looked at the other Matty (who I think is the depressed Matty that society don't see), I think the reason he looked at him for two seconds is because he still feels depressed, although he tries to ignore him.

You need to play UGH with the beginning of this video to get it. Like when in ugh it's "I think I've lost my phone so won't you call it up for me?" that's when the phone starts ringing in the music video. That weird sounds are coming from Matty and it's actually when he said "I'm not giving it up again". The music video is also exactly 3 minutes like ugh. Just play both of them at the same time.
