- Yodeling Cowgirl Patsy Montana performs her signature song "I Want to Be A Cowboy's Sweetheart" from Gene Autry's 1939 Republic Pictures film "Colorado Sunset." She's backed by the CBS-KMBC Texas Rangers and that's Smiley Burnette who askes Patsy "Whatcha doin' in this country?"

I WANT TO BE A COWBOY'S SWEETHEART
I WANT TO BE A COWBOY'S SWEETHEART
I WANT TO LEARN TO ROPE AND TO RIDE
I WANT TO RIDE O'ER THE PLAINS AND THE DESERT
OUT WEST OF THE GREAT DIVIDE
I WANT TO HEAR THE COYOTES HOWLIN'
WHILE THE SUN SINKS IN THE WEST
I WANT TO BE A COWBOY'S SWEETHEART
THAT'S THE LIFE THAT I LOVE BEST
SHE WANTS TO BE A COWBOY'S SWEETHEART
SHE WANTS TO LEARN TO ROPE AND TO RIDE
SHE WANTS TO RIDE O'ER THE PLAINS AND THE DESERT
OUT WEST OF THE GREAT DIVIDE
AH LEE DEE OH DA LAY EEH HEE
OH DA LAY EEH HEE
YO DO OH HOO DOO DEE
I WANT TO HEAR THE COYOTES HOWLIN'
WHILE THE SUN SINKS IN THE WEST
I WANT TO BE A COWBOY'S SWEETHEART
THAT'S THE LIFE THAT I LOVE BEST
I WANT TO RIDE OLD PAINT, GOIN' AT A RUN
I WANT TO FEEL THE WIND IN MY FACE
A THOUSAND MILES FROM THE CITY LIGHTS
GOIN' A COWHAND'S PACE
I WANT TO PILLOW MY HEAD NEAR THE SLEEPIN' BIRDS
WHILE THE MOON SHINES DOWN FROM ABOVE
I WANT TO STRUM MY GUITAR
AND OH DA LAY DEE DEE EEH EEH!
(THAT'S THE LIFE THAT I LOVE!)

My mom used to play her acoustic guitar and sing this song and yodel too. Us four girls would sing with her too, but she did the yodeling ‘cause we couldn’t do it. She’d play her electric piano a lot too, and we’d sing Gospel music with her. She’s been gone since September of 1980 and I still miss her after all this time 😇🥰‼️
Love to see this since I never got to meet my grandfather. He is the handsome man to the right of her in the center of the singers. I've been told he was an amazing singer and from the sound of it he definitely was. 💓😊 Love to you and your memories Grandpa "Irish".
How precious to have this to watch! I'm so happy for you.
@@juliaflanagan4148 Thank you for saying so☺️
I love that the handsome man to the right is your grandfather. We do not know one another but watching the video for a second time after reading your comment, somehow felt different and special to me knowing what it means to you. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story.❤

Aww! I was hoping to hear Smiley jam on the accordion. Still, this was fun. She doesn't yodel as much in this as she does in the original studio version of the song, though I kind of like the yodeling. Not a familiar sound to my generation in the US, but I like it when she does it. I always enjoy watching Smiley Burnette in these old clips too. He was a surprisingly talented man beneath his light-hearted comical antics, perhaps better known to later generations as Charlie the conductor on "Petticoat Junction". Fun fact: the blonde who shows up around when the song starts is Barbara Pepper, who played the original Doris Ziffel on "Green Acres".
I agree, Smiley was a multi-talented performer of great proportions (pun intended). /:-)
she's so cute
That gal Ruby on The Voice brought me here

Rachel Messer sang this song on The Voice several years ago! I loved it! I had to know who sang it originally.
In the audio translation of the song, a fundamental mistake is made, It is sung: "I want to be a cowboy, sweetheart,The Rangers also sing "she wants to be a cowboy..." " Привожу по-русски В звуковом переводе песни совершается принципиальная ошибка Поется "Я хочу быть ковбоем, дорогой," Так же поют и рейнджеры :"Она хочет стать ковбоем..."Ну и так далее
