I absolutely LOVE all of these perennials that you have grown. It was also great to see how you combined two of your passions into one video. Keep them coming.
Ah-ha Patrick. Now we've finally learned the secret to your wonderful garden.....you play music to keep your plants happy. I've heard people speak of talking to plants but never serenading them. Great job. I've been playing guitar for over 50 years and now I can take it to the garden........like your Strat by the way.
Thanks Richard! It's a Jeff Beck Strat and it's definitely the best Strat I've ever had. It even stays in tune when you use the whammy bar! Happy playing and gardening!
You will definitely have epic fruit harvests this year. My two grapefruit and three orange trees are loaded this year and we have been eating them since late May. Our two lemon trees were heavily pruned this year and they are just starting to put out new growth so they will be less productive. We will be spreading rock dust, composted horse manure, worm castings and shredded cardboard this week before we apply six to eight inches of woodchips and leaves from a local tree trimming company. Thank you for sharing your informative and inspiring videos, and for the music.
Oh wow, look at your blackberries, ...yummy, yummy, yummy :) I love the idea of growing strawberries under the fruit trees. I am doing that to my lot this year. You have a very healthy garden, Patrick. Love it! ps LOVE the guitar playing. You are so coool....yay!
I've always really enjoyed what you do with your garden and I think it's really cool and is an ideal I tried to encourage others to follow. But when I saw that Epic guitar playing your cool Factor went up even higher! I agree with one of the other people who commented, we would love to listen and watch to some more guitar. If you make a few videos like that we can share them with our friends who are not into gardening and it might lead them our way :-)
Thanks so much Paul! I hope to start a music channel this year to feature my music. I'll also include some of it on this channel. I'll let you know when I start the new channel.
I think you're just going to have to buy the house next door, demolish it, and expand your garden ... Fruit trees do tend to grow! And to block out the light around them! It is amazing the yields of produce you get from your limited space. Go Patrick!
Hey Patrick. Im not on youtube much these days but like to still pop on every once and a while to see whats going on in youtube land. Your food jungle isnt looking as big this year mate. I love the orchard you are establishing, perennials is mainly what I grow. I have all my in containers though as I rent but everywhere I go they come with me. By the way brother you can really shred that guitar. I hope you include more of that in your videos. The once staple musically of our generation is all but on its last legs.
Thanks for checking in, Steve! Yeah, we're definitely moving toward more perennials too. I hope to start a music channel this year and will feature some of the music on this channel too.
Your perennials look great. I am also trying to plant many different perennial shrubs and trees around my yard. Pixwell Gooseberries are prolific growing but berries a bit small compare to some European varieties. It’s nice that you mention names and varieties of different plants, I get to research some of them later. Nice vid, thanks for sharing
FANTASTIC with the music; that made me smile. Your perennials are beautiful. We added strawberries, heritage raspberry, a grape vine, a cherry tree, fig tree, and 2 apple trees to our garden this year. My first official planting of perennial foods...well besides my sage from last year. Exciting stuff in the garden this year!
Great work. Planting few fruit tree early when you start gardening is great. I expected some apple trees. Just waiting to see what you will plant new, looking into area and sun
This is certainly one of the very best gardening channels around! Im also happy that oyr happens to be in almost similar climate to ours in Finland (north Europe) ^^ this has helped us A LOT with our small permaculture homestead project we started a while ago. Thanx and also greetings to Oscar from our 12 cats 😸
OYR Frugal & Sustainable Organic Gardening I heard that music effect the plants when I was growing up so I just started playing my guitar out there. Idk how true that is(video idea??) but I enjoy being outside when I play and my whole yard is a garden or woodchips 😁
What a GREAT addition to your garden is that peach tree! I'm so jealous!! Pruning is THE challenge, I find with low maintenance fruit trees. I have not pruned my fig at all. And those get huge. And as you know, all the fruit trees are in my tiny front yard. As for pruning my lemon tree, it never seems to gain height, so I leave it alone, and it produces well. We pruned the orange tree a bit a month or so ago, but nothing drastic as there is always fruit coming or going. Very different with stone fruit. I may not get any plums at all this year. It's usually loaded by now. Maybe this is the year it just quits. It is probably 30 years old. Maybe I should try an Asian Pear. Do the leaves fall off? Strawberries on the ground don't do well here, they get eaten by sowbugs. They do better in hanging baskets and get more sun. So good to check in with you again. Congrats on your channel success! I see you are still using that microphone, or one like the first one, and the sound is still clear, even at a distance. I should try one of those again, very freeing to be able to walk and talk. The one I originally bought had a muffled sound. You never know what kind of sound you are going to get when you order a mic. Oh, an overhead shot, good going! Wonder if you have a pruning berry canes video? You touch on it here, but I just don't know what I'm doing on that score. "Never run out of plants," you should have added "if you have space..." LOL My problem, no space! No sun! There have only been a half dozen days in the last month where the sun shined before noon. By afternoon, sun is on the back side of my house. So challenging to grow tomatoes in 3-4 hours of direct sun with a zillion spores ready to take out plants. You have really put a lot of thought into maximizing food sources by selecting perennials that deliver fruit at different times of year. I'm always impressed with your garden and think the world of your channel. Musician/gardener. Love it. Combining those shots, very cool. I thought, who's in the background of that shot? haha. All my best, Kaye
Thanks for dropping by the garden, Kaye! Asian Pears are hardy to zone 9, so they wouldn't do well where you live. It's great that you can grow citrus trees, which are my favorite. Yeah, my old mic is still hanging in there. I take after my dad when it comes to stuff like that - use it until it doesn't work. lol
Very cool to see your talents on guitar, and nice to see your perennials. Your Red Haven peach looks great! I cut mine down this year, it had terrible leaf curl, and I really don't feel like spraying it every year. You will enjoy the goosberries, we got our first crop this year, and I enjoy them.
Have you done any videos on making worm towers in some of your raised gardens ? keep up the super helpful videos....I am doing the OYR Video marathon..lol Can't get enough of your info in my brain..lol Cheers
We're getting our first blueberry harvest ever right now! I'm looking into planting thornless blackberries and a fig tree later this season. Thanks for the continual garden inspiration! Also, nice tunes!
Awesome video I love your garden Patrick it's a joy to watch I learned so much from watching your channel. great guitar playing you should end your videos like that every time, brilliant 👏🎸🍇🍓👍
I got really into the food Forrest idea and have planted 6 fruit trees, 21 raspberry bare root plants, 25 strawberry, and a hodge podge of gooseberries, black berries and elder berries this year
Man, veggies and greens are great, but there's nothing that makes me feel quite as happy and summery as ripening berries and fruit! Can't wait until I'm living somewhere where I can do more long-term gardening. What new perennial are you adding this year?
The way Oscar bolted it doesn't appear that he's a big fan of your jam session! Thanks for the tour. I planned 2 peach trees year ago. Lots of leaves but no fruit. We had a bad freeze just at buds were popping.
Another video idea 💡, i do not have room to start seeds inside; how might someone start seeds outside this time of year for the fall garden? The outside garden is full now, but when the corn is harvested there will be a lot of free space to fill with fall crops.
if its any consolation, this spring I planted a couple of honeyberry... so you can take yours out knowing that the honeyberry lives on. coincidentally I am removing a fruit tree... nice jam btw classic sound but with your own flavor

I had no clue you played guitar. It sounded beautiful, thank you for sharing. ps, I am actually named Vaughan, after Stevie. : )
SRV...may he rest in peace. Very nice!
Awesome guitaring as always Patrick 🙂.
I'm just blown away!! 😮 Horticultural AND musical talents - lucky wife cuz who could ask for more?😎
Thanks Vaughan!
I love your videos! They are very informative but still peaceful and light hearted. Thank you for sharing your garden with the world
Thanks!
I saw the guitar but I didn't know my face was about to be shredded off. Holy Hendrix, Patrick! Good thing Oscar got out of the way.
lol Oscar is so over my guitar playing.
LOL!
I'd like videos of just you playing while the camera pans around the garden, with an occasional Oscar!
Wow! More guitar in your videos, please! I bet the plants like it, too :)
Will do, Colleen!
I absolutely LOVE all of these perennials that you have grown. It was also great to see how you combined two of your passions into one video. Keep them coming.
Thanks Denise!

wow. now we will want a guitar closing every time! and what does Oscar think of the guitar?
The way he ran away when I started playing, I think he must be tired of hearing it. lol
2nd that!
Rock in the garden with Patrick! Wonderful music and a gorgeous garden.
Thanks!

after only a few videos i realized the nails were definitely for jamming….EXCELLENT!
Thanks Mary!
I’m the gardener in the family, but my husband the musician enjoyed the last bit. Thanks for sharing!
I'm flat out playing a Ukulele as a food forester, and this bloke rips out a Stratocaster?!
Kudos!
I love the ukulele. Happy playing!

Patrick, you are my #1 gardening source and now you just raised your cool factor a few bars. Great job man! Keep it up!
Thanks!
Of course your chill attitude in the garden would translate to a chill electric guitar solo
Thanks Russell!
Thoroughly enjoyed this! Thanks
Thanks Everett!
Now we will all be expecting a guitar riff at the end of each video. You set yourself up for that!
lol Now I'm in trouble
Yeah! LOL...
No going back now lol.
I always enjoy your gardening videos, but the instrumental was awesome!!!
Thanks Dee!
I think you're just going to have to buy the house next door, demolish it, and expand your garden ... Fruit trees do tend to grow! And to block out the light around them!
It is amazing the yields of produce you get from your limited space. Go Patrick!
Thanks Ruby! It would be nice to have more room for an orchard.
Sounds like you have some happy plants 😀
Thanks!
Love me some guitar 🎸 music. Thank you
Thanks!
Always love your videos and love the musical interludes when we are lucky enough to get them.
Thanks Terry!

Thanks! Yeah, I've heard that about the Pixwells. I'll have to see if I can squeeze in another variety somewhere.
Oh, brother. Those blueberries are looking incredible! You're pretty handy with that Fender too, I see. Very nice.
Thanks!

Oh heck yes, at long last the guitar comes out 😁 Rock on Patrick!
Thanks Piers!

Great work. Planting few fruit tree early when you start gardening is great. I expected some apple trees. Just waiting to see what you will plant new, looking into area and sun
Thanks Sharada! We may plant an apple tree where the honeyberry plants are.

I love that you jam in the garden!!!
I do that with my daughter with my acoustic
Thanks Colton! It's great that you play for your daughter. Maybe it'll spark an interest in making music.

Have you done any videos on making worm towers in some of your raised gardens ?
keep up the super helpful videos....I am doing the OYR Video marathon..lol Can't get enough of your info in my brain..lol Cheers
Thanks so much for watching! I haven't made worm towers for the garden but I like the idea.
Patrick! You sound like Stevie Ray! Wow!
Seafoam green. That's what I would choose.
Look at you go!
Thanks! I'm glad you like the guitar. It's a Jeff Beck Signature Strat.
Nice guitar skills! My husband and son both play the guitar!
Thanks!
Groovy tour and tunes!
Thanks!
Kick out the yams! Great video Patrick!
Thanks!
Great video, gardening and music ...bliss !
Thanks Christine!
Love it! Great music to keep your garden growing and happy!
Thanks Mel!
Beautiful garden and nice jam! The song reminded me of "Don't Let Me Down" from the Beatles.
Thanks!
I thought it was going to be Little Wing for a minute!
Yeah, the intro is definitely inspired by that style.
This has been a great video! Makes me dream of my future garden. YOU ARE ALSO A VERY TALENTED GUITAR PLAYER.
Thanks Diane!
Great song Jimmy, thanks for sharing
A man of many talents. One more reason to enjoy your videos, but… where was Oscar?
Thanks Michael! You can see Oscar run down the garden path when I start playing guitar. I guess he's heard enough. lol
This is my new favorite video from you guys! LOVE the music at the end!
Thanks Roxanne!
See you've been missing out, keeping your talents under wraps!
Nice🎸...🇦🇺🕊
Thanks Susan!
We're getting our first blueberry harvest ever right now! I'm looking into planting thornless blackberries and a fig tree later this season. Thanks for the continual garden inspiration! Also, nice tunes!

Excellent 😁😄🙂
Thanks Joyce!
Amazing!
Thanks Joseph!
Beautiful guitar and garden!

Thanks Michelle!
Very cool jam. Love Hendricks and Stevey !
Thanks Andre!
I got really into the food Forrest idea and have planted 6 fruit trees, 21 raspberry bare root plants, 25 strawberry, and a hodge podge of gooseberries, black berries and elder berries this year
Nice guitar and well played...
Thanks John!
Great video!
Thanks!
Sweet jam!
Whoah, that guitar part rocks! Awesome
Thanks Laila!
Awesome, loved it! Thank you for sharing your knowledge and talents with us. I've learned a lot from your channel. Oscar is the cutest too!
Thanks Jennifer!
Loved the fruit trees...Your sound is great!!! 😊
Thanks Tera!
Man, veggies and greens are great, but there's nothing that makes me feel quite as happy and summery as ripening berries and fruit! Can't wait until I'm living somewhere where I can do more long-term gardening. What new perennial are you adding this year?
I couldn't agree more, Hannah! I hope you're able to plant your perennials soon. We planted more strawberries this year.
Great garden, Nice licks!
Thanks Dennis!
Yes! I'm so glad you finally broke out the guitar. 😎
Thanks Nancy! I told you I would. 😎
Great video, and most awesome ending! Thank you for taking the time to make these videos - I really enjoy them.
Cool, you're getting more creative with the split screening. Very nice.
I love your garden and your tips, grate music.... Saludos from Panamá
Thanks!
The way Oscar bolted it doesn't appear that he's a big fan of your jam session! Thanks for the tour. I planned 2 peach trees year ago. Lots of leaves but no fruit. We had a bad freeze just at buds were popping.
I'm sorry to hear about your peach trees. Yeah, Oscar has heard it all before. lol
Another video idea 💡, i do not have room to start seeds inside; how might someone start seeds outside this time of year for the fall garden? The outside garden is full now, but when the corn is harvested there will be a lot of free space to fill with fall crops.
Thanks for the video idea! We start seeds in small cells on the front steps. Currently we're starting some determinate tomatoes.
if its any consolation, this spring I planted a couple of honeyberry... so you can take yours out knowing that the honeyberry lives on. coincidentally I am removing a fruit tree... nice jam btw classic sound but with your own flavor
Thanks! Best wishes with your honeyberry!
Rock on! Love the guitar cameo.
Thanks Justin!
Some seriously great licks, Pat! I loved it. Made we wanna learn how to play guitar! Keep up the great work brother.
Thanks Jeremy!
