The scandal broke couple of years ago..high caliber weapons being sent to gun shops near the Mexico border. This arsenal makes its way to Mexico. The obvious suspects were implicated and the stuff is given away relative free. When USA agents were being killed with these weapons..some noise was made but it soon fizzled out. Seems you down play these games. So it's just one of the hundreds of deadly games USA is playing with Mexico.

That's because the U.S. Government is doing this on purpose for a reason. The news channel's all talk about what happen over seas. Why you wonder? Well who controls the media, the government does. They want the American people to be dumb and blind and only listen to what the news says is important. Why? Because the U.S. American population can not handle the truth. The government is a well oiled machine and if we knew what was happening this close to home then that a hiccup in that machine. So if we stay focused on things that happen 5,000 miles away we still have that sense of everything is okay. And that machine can keep running. But in reality it's not. Yes, starting with declaring U.S. arms companies to be associated with terrorism. For unscrupulously providing and selling military equipment to these groups.
I think that goes within the very foundations of the meaning of a “cartel” as many of us understand it. Drugs, weapons, organized crime more dangerous than the average gangs, illegal trafficking, burning and beheading videos, seemingly endless amount of manpower, prostitution, threats, kidnappings and political control as well as corrupt police officers and corrupted politicians and officials. I would say that cartel goes hand in hand with terrorism.

Mexico had Pancho Villa and the revolutionary uprising 100 years ago. Not much different than today. Mexico is a beautiful country with a violent subculture.
You mean when the Mexican government was persecuting catholics with the help of the US government ? Mexico is still beautiful but has a sad history of external meddling and corrupt governance.
Do you Mean the MesoAmerican culture Era? That was like 600 years ago remember The first colonies were Spanish way before the English Arrived and they didn't bring women so they had to mix with Natives.

My folks took at trip to Tijuana in the late 1950's. I remember the cardboard shanty town and the ruff and tumble tourist sections. It was a wild experience for a young kid. There were no cartels to speak of back then so we felt pretty safe.

It is not a lack of compassion, it is brutal honesty, You cannot make hard men, the kind that are needed to combat other hard men with this daycare model that the US has told the world is right. you need harsh training to combat even harsher reality. The US people could learn from this.
This guy might not know it yet, but he's a genius. I would seriously vote this guy into office if I could. Such an amazing story and an incredible mind along with talent. Things desperately need to change and people like this give me hope as times get darker than ever. Also thanks Johnny for asking the important questions resulting in these exceptional answers.

I think this is the best connect interview I've listened to. Mainly because he is not cut off so much. Johnny can't relate to it and doesn't know the jargon. You should be a good host and let the guy speak
37:45 “they’re being kind “ is a understatement. Shit got crazier for Ed after that. Se vino lo más cabron around that time 2006- about now has been crazy in TJ, from el Cañaveral to arresting top AFO men, AFI raids and now with CJNG and CDS coming in and taking parts of the Tijuana plaza. I’m surprised there hasn’t been dump trucks of dead body’s being hauled throughout the city and entirety of Mexico.
The thing i’ve noticed about Ed is that he has a very deep and nuanced understanding of the deep seated corruption of mexican law enforcement which has led to the complete transformation of mexico into a narco-state, and of the total failure of the american war on drugs. His analysis of the situation on both sides of the border seems to always lead to the conclusion that attempts to solve the problem under the current paradigms is futile. But every time i’ve heard him be interviewed, he never misses a chance to be critical of center left (for lack of a better term) policies and reconfigurations to the overall strategy to end cartel violence. If the solution to a problem has shown to be ineffective for decades, shouldn’t we be looking for new ones? He goes so far as to criticize a democratic government for being against extra judicial incarceration based on insufficient evidence, but i digress.
Men who choose to be police or military are typically conservative / authoritarian. So, no surprise, but I agree that he seems blind to the fact conservative Mexican regimes have been just as corrupt as the others.
Anabel Hernández is a Mexican journalist that has written books on corruption in Mexico and cartels. She will be a very good guest and I think she lives in Los Angeles.
She currently lives in Berkeley, California with her two children and has a fellowship on Investigative Reporting at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
Johnny's ability to ask a question that literally everyone listening to the guy being interviewed already knows the answer too?? Impressive!! Sometimes i wonder what the thoughts in his head are at times... cause one thing u know they are not on?? The guy hes interviewing and the story being told!! Haha he is getting better so I'll give him that! But still has those moments where i shake my head thinking how on earth could u make such a wrong statement concerning the story when everyone of us know it, and the subject is literally in front of ur face!!
@jayr3635 totally! Listening to Johnnie's interviews give me anxiety at times with all his interruptions and off the wall statements. Lol. I'm not done listening to the whole interview yet, but Johnnie has done really good in this interview as far as interruptions though so far, in my humble opinion. But I love listening to Ed in interviews and his own pod, he's awesome!
I left tijuas in 96 and the cartels were all ready fighting I was a low level drug dealer and nickels and dimes, until some masked men with long guns broke down my door and gave me a beating I'll never forget, and told me from this day on you sell for us or your and your family are dead, that simple these guys moved like military or police officers, I knew if I stared to work for these people I would end up dead, two days later I left with my wife and kids a never looked back
Back in the late 90s early 2000s i remember visiting Tijuana and i loved it the people were amazing some were really struggling which is never good 😞 but a lot were incredibly delightful and such hardworkers. I was just a teenager at the time but it was just remember it being really amazing getting a chance to see how great that culture was. Its too bad that its become so unsafe. So sad...
Ed touches on the fact that Mexico is ONE VIOLENT COUNTRY. When I went to where my dad was from, as a boy, carring a pistol, I was "one of the boys". At elleven, I had a 5in 1911. And I learned right away I was to protect my family. But the "genetic memory" he called it always mystified me. Note: The Mex Army was known to be absolutely brutal against common peasant citizens in lawless villages.
I've watched Ed Calderon at Lex Friedman's podcast.. this will be very interesting episode! The connect is one of my new favorite show on this platform!
Saw a Brazilian movie called something like Trupo Elite about Rio setting up a separate police force of 100 or so men who were not corrupt. Based on real events and very interesting.
I worked at that glass company he was talking bout it’s called Vitro and it’s located in Kentucky rumors it’s cartel owned people said they send trailers to USA with single windows and all kinds of crazy shit

I lived in San Diego from 2005 to 2010, and I distinctly remember climbing into our roof to listen to the mid day gun fights in TJ. Not just the dull pop pop of small arms, oh no. There was very often the loud thump thump of a .50cal HMG going cyclic. Our favs were the thump - CRACK of the 40mm HE. Yeah, shit was real.
This is perhaps the most important video I have watched this year, and I watch a lot of stuff. thanks for producing it and providing all of this information and the "reality check."
My wife and I lived in Rosarito from 2011 to 2018. We saw first hand what Mr Calderon is saying! I really appreciate his common sense view on the situation! Our leaders are allowing/causing a Hamas type situation, that our young, national treasures, are going to have to go fight, bleed and die for! 👎
I had to stop listening after an hour because it was impacting me a little to much. I started to think in such fatalistic, anxious, helpless, and terrified way. I can't even phantom how it was for Ed living this in first hand. It really moved me since I'm Tijuanense, born and raised. I was just a kid when all of this part of the Mexico's history happened. But even when I can't barely remember about it, I can confirm things haven't changed but somehow worsen. It made me question myself how me and my family lived through this, and still do in a way, in shock. Now as an adult and as an Internationalist it opened a new whole perspective. Once one of my friends said ''In other countries they use the army for war, in Mexico they use it for the narco'' and that sentence will stay with me forever. It's tough hearing about this but necessary. I can only say that I truly admire Ed for being so vocal and thank this guy for giving him the platform to share with us his experiencies!
thank you for enlightening the public about these contemporary issues in our world. things that should be hidden in the shadow but reveal it in the light

Drugs aren’t legal in Portugal. It’s decriminalize, but not legal. One of the positives is they have rehabilitation centers instead of prison or jail, but you can still go to jail if your a dealer. If your a dealer they send the army to find you in the Azores

In certain regions.
Can you please do one here in Chicago?
Wow takes some balls to be an undercover cop in Mexico..imagine been found out...OMG...Glad is doin ok today..🙏🏼
All It took is a call from the inside of 1 of his dirty cop buddies to the Cartels and he'd never made it home
The most informative, articulate, interviewee with regards to the cartels I have ever heard in my life. Thank you Ed!!!
I’m amazed at how he is able to stay out of harm’s way. He’s blessed.
New sub byway of Flagrant, really appreciated both videos. This interview has a lot more darkness to it. I’m really surprised your guest still seems mentally intact considering the amount of violence he saw and was exposed to.
Imagine going back to Mexico 100yrs ago to see the beautiful land and people that lived there compared to today!
It wasnt beautiful even then. That was Pancho's time....like in Villa.
Do you Mean the MesoAmerican culture Era? That was like 600 years ago remember The first colonies were Spanish way before the English Arrived and they didn't bring women so they had to mix with Natives.
Mexico has always bathed in blood
Ed is an all time podcast guest for any one he goes on. His experiences are insane!
One of the best interviews I've seen
This is arguably your best guest so far. Nice interview too
I did a counternarco deployment with the US Coast Guard in Feb-Jun 2006. Extremely interesting to say the least. I didnt totally grasp it all while I was there…glad to have been there, though.
Cartels are partial owners of resorts in Cabo and Cancun which is why they mostly safe places for tourists.
They should go total hospitality route. Imagine how much happier their and everyone else's life would be!
Always enjoy listening to Ed tell his stories
Can’t believe I listened to this while doing my chores and I must say this interview is amazing both gentlemen kept it so entertaining and informative. Now I follow both of them!!
Hi Lucy!
Walking across that bridge from San Diego into Tijuana is like “oh, this is different”.
My folks took at trip to Tijuana in the late 1950's. I remember the cardboard shanty town and the ruff and tumble tourist sections. It was a wild experience for a young kid. There were no cartels to speak of back then so we felt pretty safe.
Lol that was over 70 years ago?
@@rossauce12 Your comment makes no sense. Do you think cartels were invented after the late 50s? Al Capone ran a cartel in the 30s that was almost as violent.
Mexican cartels were invented in 1951
when did the cartels really take over?
@@לךתזדיין-פ1תcartels are a government creation. The US people have learned nothing from their own history and have long abandoned their purpose for existing. They eat up all the propaganda like a starving animal.
I was stationed at Fort Bliss in El Paso from 2007-2010. When I got there, we could go into Juarez to go shopping, the military turned that off shortly after I arrived. We could hear firefights in Juarez, pretty much every night

I understand why Ed Calderon have a command in both languages.

I appreciate a lot people like Ed Calderon, he puts his face where his words go. Thank you sir, hope for you and your fight the best because these battles are for us, citizens that want a free world. Thank you the connect too!
I'm constantly looking for Ed interviews. He's such an interesting individual with tons of knowledge.
I knew you'd eventually have Ed on...he has an incredible backstory in Mexico...great interview Johnny!
He has had him on a few times g
@@lindseylohan509slattno he hasn’t where was he on before this.
This is one of the best interviews, excellent information, excellent explanations, just an excellent all-around interviewing
I’d love to see a podcast with Ed & Luis Chaparro talking about both of their experiences and what they think the future of cartels are.
They already did an interview.
@@TIROS293K Together?
I’ve only found individual interviews.
Yeah they know a lot about all this between them, its interesting to watch these podcasts.
Ed is a legend, love every interview he does. He loved it and came out such an admirable human being.
As a civilian from TJ, you have no idea how it was back then.
"History doesn't repeat itself, it often rhymes." great quote.
USA should hire Ed to address cartel issues
They already know what they are doing. US corrupt government is part of the organized crime
They did already he is CIA
integrity: doing the right thing when no one else is watching or will ever know.
UssA the same on the border 😊
Me as a american would fight by your side anytime.i can hear your humbleness.thx for sharing.
Anabel Hernández is a Mexican journalist that has written books on corruption in Mexico and cartels. She will be a very good guest and I think she lives in Los Angeles.
Rumor has it that she's on the payroll. 😂😂😂
She currently lives in Berkeley, California with her two children and has a fellowship on Investigative Reporting at the University of California, Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
She lives in Italy lastiheard
Anabel Hernández has dismantled her career in the past 3 to 4 years 😂 she’s not that credible anymore

I could listen to this guy talk all day.🔥🔥 Fired pod.👏
I feel so sorry for the innocent people who live there and have to suffer daily in that lawless society and a country controlled by evil.
America is next.

Your next because of J and it's NGOs that advocate for replacement migration
Ed is a certified mad man but a god damn badass you got to have straight ice in your veins to go up against the cartels
CIA propagandist
I left tijuas in 96 and the cartels were all ready fighting I was a low level drug dealer and nickels and dimes, until some masked men with long guns broke down my door and gave me a beating I'll never forget, and told me from this day on you sell for us or your and your family are dead, that simple these guys moved like military or police officers, I knew if I stared to work for these people I would end up dead, two days later I left with my wife and kids a never looked back
Could listen to this guy all day. All that said, he must have some scary thoughts when he wakes up at 2am🙃
Jimmy. This guy smiles all the time he is relaying his story’s 😢
Thanks. The world (and near) drug culture is important information to us. We are already seeing the loss of youths in our nation and future.

I worked at that glass company he was talking bout it’s called Vitro and it’s located in Kentucky rumors it’s cartel owned people said they send trailers to USA with single windows and all kinds of crazy shit
I don't know what you mean about single window trailers
@@getstuk87 they would ship in a single individual windshield from Mexico to KY with a 18 wheeler and full size trailer
@@dustybowling1695there’s tons of Mexican companies in the US. Mostly agriculture/food & vehicle parts. that’s the number one way that Cartels move in drugs. Huge trailers with legal cargo mixed with drugs There’s people who believe illegals are walking across w all these drugs 😂
Ed, you are a hero. You may not think it but you are. Stay Safe and Thank you.🦊
This is perhaps the most important video I have watched this year, and I watch a lot of stuff. thanks for producing it and providing all of this information and the "reality check."
Hes referring to the Comandante Leyzaola, he is a legend in Tijuana and Juarez
My wife and I lived in Rosarito from 2011 to 2018. We saw first hand what Mr Calderon is saying! I really appreciate his common sense view on the situation! Our leaders are allowing/causing a Hamas type situation, that our young, national treasures, are going to have to go fight, bleed and die for! 👎

Everytime he tells his story there is so much pain and detail we re live it.
Ed has the best interviews. Love listening to this guy
I been watching alot of these things. This is the first time I've commented. This man is so smart and interesting. He is a good man.god bless

Drugs aren’t legal in Portugal. It’s decriminalize, but not legal.
One of the positives is they have rehabilitation centers instead of prison or jail, but you can still go to jail if your a dealer.
If your a dealer they send the army to find you in the Azores
Rehab? Instead of jail? Lots of luck😂😂 you’re very naive
DRUG-TREATMENT WORKS ! Jail just teaches how to be MORE of a CRIMINAL , and RECRUITS for GANGS .
