to clarify the first boat to bring in a 500 pound or better marlin wins the bonus money of over 700 thousand dollars. since no boat won the bonus it rolls over to next year and the first boat to bring in a marlin over 500 pounds wins over 1.5 million dollars.
I personally think the review was basically to get the crowd dispersed. If they would have announced that night the DQ they probably would have had a riot.. There was a HUGE crowd there.
Something to note on the "rich people" thing: the Sensation team sold shares on the team, about 35 of them. Anyone competing with the crew had to buy a share, each worth about $102k if that fish hadn't been disqualified. I know several of the guys fishing on that team were just regular blue-collar dudes that stood to win life-changing money from that fish.
….and there are guys in single engine outboards that enter a single division for $2500. But, when much of the fleet is comprised of million dollar boats, some $10 million plus, and Michael Jordan flies in on his private jet to fish, its really honestly a rich man’s game.
@eddiemadden318 if you can’t say 100k US (a share) at any age south of 50 changed your life you either blew it away or you had enough to begin with, 100k down on a mortgage early on would take 10 years of almost any mortgage,
Yep went to lawsuit. Was announced earlier. I don't think it will hold up. Rules are pretty well written. Pretty much all saltwater tournaments don't allow you to weigh a fish that has been bitten by a shark. Lots of king mackerel tournaments have had winning fish that a 1/3rd of it is missing but they don't count.
The one thing that sensation has them on is the tournament is not an IGFA sanctioned tourtament so there rules should not apply cause it not written into big rock’s rules!
$793,500 bonus for the FIRST marlin 500 pounds or over to be weighed in at the tournament. Sensation had the first one to be weighed in, that's why they were eligible for it. If another boat had landed one that was 500 or above, and weighed it in before the Sensation, they would have won the bonus money. Just wanted to clarify that.
With the amount of money trying to win. There should be officials on each boat. With a video recorder while fish is on!! Just my perspective. Sounds like a rules needs to be updated or redone.
their on the boat as well as they forced them to have go pros covering the entire boat and also they have to turn in their GPS cards each day they fish. amazing that they go to great lengths to make people be held accountable but dont want themselves to be held to the same standard.
Hey Dieter, you mentioned if that people that join your UA-cam channel have some gifts coming their way. I have been subscribed for a little while but have not received anything. Just checking if I maybe have something coming. Thank you for putting out such an interesting channel. Hope to hear from you.
Joining the channel is $9.99 per month. He is sending those people something. He has 90k subscribers. If he sent something to each subscriber, that would cost him over $1 Million
This is pretty silly when an "act of God" makes the fish easier to boat, but the rules don't allow for that. Sure, they don't want competitors doing something like shooting a fish to make it easier to boat, but that's a deliberate, man made event, with a set objective. Unless they can show how the folks in the boat caused the shark to strike the fish, or how they caused the fish to get a tail wrap and expire..., this should be a court victory for the boat, not the Association. (imho)
Well I hope they could keep the meat from that guy or get a mount made? Do you know how that works when a fish is held over for inspection, is the fish still able to be kept and divided among the party?
You can't eat marlin. The mercury content is too high. The marlin goes to I believe UNC(or to the Duke research center in Beaufort)right beside the DMF in Morehead City for research.
no whats even crazier is that they even said that if the fish is damaged beyond control AFTER you catch it then its still a legal fish to weigh in. so in other works cut the fish in half and yes you can weigh that fish but a fish bite not a chance. this rule makes people move away from supporting tournaments like this and they keep trying to make it harder every year. the big rock had a lot of people mad when they cut the live feed. little did they know that the local news was live streaming and they left theirs up so everyone could watch what happens.
@@mrcommonsense9074 the IGFA has that rule and its wide open to opinion on what is allowed and what is not allowed. the problem is they want to judge it on a case by case basis. in other words if we dont like what we see then not allowed. but if we like what we see then allowed.
This call really sucks for the crew of the sensation, they had no control over the sharks or any other marine animals. Congrats to the crew of the sushi tho. (Little side note, the new Big Rock tournament record it 914lbs. Caught by the crew of the Top Dog in 2019)
You don't understand the rule obviously! A fish is considered an easier catch if it's reeled in injured or dead. Rule makes everyone earn their fight/catch. It has to be absolute w/ no waivering.
@@ennisking6764 so exactly what did connor(original post) say that was inaccurate to the point where you formed the opinion that he "doesn't understand the rules, obviously"?
Any person that gets a fish back from a shark and you get 80% of it ??? That's Sweet !!! To me that should count !!! Has anyone gaffed a fish wile 3 to 5 sharks were after it and hitting it ??? We had one year thing got so bad that we gaffed the shark ( Gaffing a shark is hard ) so we could gaff the fish ... Cheers from Murrell's Inlet SC
The way it was written sensation lost BUT this rule needs to be changed. Shark populations are now unchecked with the commercial fishing for them being shut down. This will only get more common. Also there are a lot of normal folks fishing in this. It’s also a matter of pride. First the folks want a NC boat to win then they want their port. There’s definitely some competition within competition between the Wilmington morehead city and hatteras fleets.
I think the rule is somewhat silly, though I I understand the intent. If you think the rule is important, then any fish brought to the side of the boat dead (drowned) should be DQ’d…..
One more thing: the Big Rock is not a IGFA sanctioned tournament!... they have their own rules, and a lot which is not IGFA. 🤷♂️. It's turned into a spectacle for publicity & sponsors like the superbowl. They need to get together and establish their rules and apply em! If it's not in their rules submitted to all anglers in writing, then it shouldn't be effective!
While this guy means well and is trying to make content. There are several facts in this video that are incorrect. Not enough research was done before making this and posting it. The rule in question does focus on mutilation but has nothing to do with altering the weight of a fish. And the standard has to be set for all shark bites. All though this fish maybe didn’t die from its injuries. It has to be judged fairly because of tournaments goin forward. More research needs to be done
I think the fish was dead way before the shark got to it. 6+ hours to reel in a fish that size, on that tackle, usually means it’s dead. There is video somewhere of that fish being leadered and brought aboard….that would tell a lot about that what really happened…😉
Can't stop sharks and other bigger fish from biting the marlin....so there fish is disqualified for something they have no control over...who cares if a shark took a bite of the marlin it's about how much the marlins weighs so losing a piece of marlin only makes the marlin weigh less...but should still count
The intent of the rule is to prevent people from just reeling a dead fish that is not capable of fighting. With that said, I think they should do away with the rule….
Let's hope it doesn't happen again! 6hrs is a long haul to be disqualified. And the across the board fishing gives anglers a reason not to target 1 big fish. There's so many options to catch & release smaller fish and target other species. 🤔... when a dolphin can net a boat 400,000 plus dollars.. it kinda gives boats other options to make money I guess. But the angler has no control over shark bites.. it's sad😪....
@@DieterMelhorn to me this is way worse. This is a dishonest tournament committee and director! Not dishonest fishermen. This is the Bud Light of tournaments now. #bigrockbudlight
Unfortunately the Marlin was killed by the shark before the fishermen were able to get their hand on it. They cannot claim the work of nature as theirs. There was no evidence that the fishermen hooked the fish to begin with. They couldn't provide video evidence of the catch. Experts have concluded that the fisherman most likely lied to have caught the fish. But what is more importantly is that the fishermen agree to the terms and conditions of the rule prior to entering this fishing tournament. So it is pretty pathetic for them to now contest the rules. No...
