Greetings, fellow Canadian! I'm in Toronto. Found your video very insightful after watching it today, in December 2023. Even though I own one of these, there's something about having a large capsule filled with water that I have to insert and leave inside my precious acoustic guitars for a few weeks that makes me a bit squeamish. I've mostly stuck to using the standard unbranded humidifiers (the kind that look like the D'addario Planet Waves ones) that I had shipped to me from China. They seem to do a great job on my guitars and there's peace of mind for me, as most of the water is squeezed out from the sponge before inserting the thing inside the guitar. In any case, I'd be curious how your Martin looks now...almost 8 years after you made this video. If you can make a quick video or something, that'd be superb. Cheers
I’ll be honest, I gig a lot and forget to put it in. So, there has been cracks that have formed, but the cracks don’t affect the sound. I have a friend that uses the d’addario humidipak and that seems like a good option. The humidipak balances the humidity, I guess. Thanks for your comment! 😊
That happened to my Martin too. I was told not to play it because if you put strings on the tension would ruin it to ever get fixed. Did you get it fixed? I am afraid to even have it looked at for fear of a hige price. The quote I got was 1,200 but my Martin was only a little over 700. It is real maghony not the laminate stuff. It looks like yours. Thanks 😊
Where do you live? I live in the Dallas area and my 1966 Gibson has never cracked (knock on my guitar wood!). I just now am starting to use a humidifier in the winter. Right now, in July of 2022, the humidly is 51% in my house -- perfect!
I have noticed after monitoring humidity levels on my acoustic guitars, the humidity is significantly different in humidity levels. Same room however one is a hard case the other is a soft case. The Martin in the hard case runs higher humidity than the Yamaha in a soft case. I guess that makes sense. Storing your guitar in a good hard case is better with maintaining humidity.

Hey Jay,
I live in eastern Ontario, Canada. The winters get very dry. That’s the biggest threat. Hope it works for you! :)

Use DI water only?
Shane C just used water from the tap.
@@jaylynch674 no man just stick it trough the strings
Distilled water is
choice👌
@@jaylynch674 no you don’t. Just pull the string to the side a bit and drop it in. I am so sorry about the late reply
Thank you for the video.
