    A few years ago something similar happened to my husband at two oceans, he was sick, never listen to his body, pushed through... crossed the finish line with 30 seconds spare... fainted at the finish line, and next minute we were in an ambulance and in hospital. It was a terrible experience. Took him a long time to heal, he hit rock bottom, and had to rebuild. So this video hit hard. So important to just listen to your body. Thanks for sharing your story 💙

    I’m glad I watched this. Got sick on Friday and had already decided that I’m not running on Sunday. This has re-assured me to definitely not.

    Well done on finishing the Comrades…wow that’s an absolutely amazing achievement!!! The lesson to us all here is remember nutrition no matter the weather is key!! (That’s hydration and gels/food) 🙏🏻👏🏼

    My word Tina - don't know why I only gave this a watch now. You're a true warrior, my friend, and your resilience is inspiring.
    Life has a funny way of testing us, throwing curveballs when we least expect them. But it's during these difficult times that we truly discover the strength we possess within ourselves. Your journey is a powerful reminder that the human spirit is unbreakable. It's a force that can conquer any obstacle and rise above adversity.
    Here's to your renewed health and an even brighter future ahead!
    Love Gammie on the Go

    Thank you for sharing your story, you doing the race alone was extremely inspirational but you going through this was astronomical. You’re strong and unique and an extremely radiant soul. I don’t even run but I absolutely loved this video and your story. You’re a damn strong human.

    Firstly, I’m glad you’re ok. Very special for me to watch these videos over here in England. My grandparents lived in Hillcrest. We visited several times in summers when I was a child. My uncle ran Comrades many times.
    I started running a year ago (age 45). You have made me even more keen to aim for Comrades one day.
    Well done and look after yourself 😊

    Congratulations firstly, on finishing the Comrades Marathon? What an accomplishment 😀👍…… secondly, so glad you’re on the mend ( healing side )…. You’ll continue to get stronger and stronger….. December 2 of last year, I had my prostate removed ( prostate cancer)…. Caught it early, did the surgery , and got it all 😀👍. I’m C - Free ( as I call it 😉 )….. I’m on the mend to. We’ll both have our ups / down moments ( more ups though 😬👍 ) as we continue to heal. Just stay strong 💪, and you’ll win 👍.

      so you had your prostate removed - what a boykie - you didn't happen to catch the reason/s why you had cancer in the first place - obviously - and you took advice from the medical system that doesn't even know what cancer is - smartness all round...

    Such a lovely, real depiction (first 90% anyway) of the comrades and I am so relieved you are much better. Good heavens. Renal failure always seemed a terrifying but unrealistic consideration to me. I hope nothing is permanent and you will be ready for your next challenge soon.
    And thank for allowing me to revisit this experience within yours. I ran from 1988 to 1991 but now live 15000 kms away, am retired and my daughter might be as older than you. I sometimes question that I ever could have run this far. Fortunately I have found much slower walking treks around the world as a wonderful substitute. And my excuse for not getting a green number is because I wanted to preserve my knees for later life adventures (I was just lazy!!!!!!)
    Oh. I grew up on the Bluff and still recall journeys to play sport almost monthly in Toti or Twini. Or the little golf course nestled between Prospecton and the climb into Toti. I used to love the pie and curry gravy at Hyperama which I see is no more. Not all change is good.
    I hope you and your hubby stay safe (that goes for all safricaners) and thing improve everyday for everyone in all respects
    David

    Just curious if you were vaccinated?

    • @cathynewyork7918
      @cathynewyork7918 Рік тому +1

      You're asking if she was vaccinated -- I hope you're not one of those trump-cult members who refuse to understand that the vaccine is a wonderful thing that has saved many many lives.

    • @TheSiameseDreamer
      @TheSiameseDreamer Рік тому

      @Cathy New York no, I got vaccinated, too. There's just lots of data regarding adverse effects, especially heart related. Especially in young people. So, I was merely curious as there is always a reason to examine any possibility.

    • @cathynewyork7918
      @cathynewyork7918 Рік тому

      @@TheSiameseDreamer Yes, I saw those reports on heart problems in a very small group of young people, which is very very small compared to the millions of people worldwide who have been kept healthy with the vaccines and boosters.

    • @TheSiameseDreamer
      @TheSiameseDreamer Рік тому

      @Cathy New York well, I had a seizure a few days after receiving my second shot. Which made me start researching adverse effects. So, many of the adverse effects are still unknown, which is why I asked. The more data gathered from both sides can only help.

    • @spartanelite6639
      @spartanelite6639 Рік тому

      @@TheSiameseDreamer You are completely valid in asking a simple question in regards to vaccine side effects. Whenever running seriously demanding distances, it’s always going to stress the body to the extreme. It would seem here, maybe the massive stress from the race and heat, not fully recovered from sickness, nutrition, and maybe antibiotics was just too much. Shit happens.

    Fantastic video on Comrades 2023. Same thing happened to me in last years Comrades race. Furthest I ran in training was only 23 miles for Comrades. In restaurant with 20 other UK runners. About to sip my glass of red then fainted. Steve got my wine 🍷 and all the runners gave me a huge clap when I was then taken to UMHLANGA HOSPITAL by ambulance and on a drip for 3 hours. Magical experience
