One of the 100 greatest films ever made. Roger Ebert in his Great Films book, encapsulated the feel of this movie in one great sentence: "Pool is a game where skill can only carry you so far....... You WILL eventually reveal WHAT YOU ARE MADE OF." Eddie has no character, and it shows in the first game with Fats. Only by accepting defeat, and acknowledging that his lack of character is what holds him back in life, does he finally gain some. He wins the final match, but he loses his girl, and part of his soul because of it. This film is Greek tragedy, in a pool room.
I enjoyed that picture too, but they should have spent a minute or two explaining what happened to Burt Gordon (George C Scott). I'm not going to mention why as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen 'The Hustler'.
I always wondered why it was named that instead of "The Hustler 2". I can't count the people who watched and raved The Color of Money the never knew or saw this amazing movie. I guess that shows how good "part 2" was, that it could stand alone without it, but when you do, it brings it to a whole new level.
What a great film...Paul Newman as Fast Eddie with Jackie Gleason as Fats. Love George C. Scott and Piper Laurie too. Favorite quote: "A 25% slice of something big is better than a 100% slice of nothing" 🤓
As you probably know Gleason was excellent in Rod Serling's "Requiem for a Heavyweight." But if you can find "Gigot," Gleason is a poor mute & the film is wonderful -- takes place in Paris, France. Directed by dancer/actor Gene Kelly.
My Dad really liked this movie. I saw it once but so long ago that I forgot its details. Thanks for bringing it back! "Piper Laurie is an American actress. As of 2022, her acting career has spanned over 70 years. She is one of the last surviving stars from the Golden Age of Hollywood. Laurie is known for her roles in the films The Hustler, Carrie, and Children of a Lesser God, all of which brought her Academy Award nominations. - Wikipedia"
Just watched Paul Newman and Robert Redford in “ The Sting “. It’s a baller ass gangster film from 1973. I haven’t seen much Paul Newman in my life, but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance kid (1969), along with Cool Hand Luke (1967) are some of my all time favorites.
I enjoyed your reaction to The Hustler! Haven't read all the comments but I'm cure you've know heard of The Color of Money, Martin Scorsese's sequel to the Hustler. Also, The Sting, another great Newman movie.
The bartender in this film is Jake LaMotta -- great boxer from that era. They made a movie about him with DeNiro -- "Raging Bull." Trivia -- Pool champion Willie Mosconi (who often played with the real Minnesota Fats) has a cameo appearance as Willie & holds the stakes for Eddie & Fats' games. It's Mosconi's hands that appear in many of the closeup shots. Talk about authenticity. The man playing billiards with Fast Eddie is Murray Hamilton -- he was in "Jaws" as the "mayor of the town" that didn't want to close the tourist beaches down. "The Cincinnati Kid," with Steve McQueen playing an expert poker player Edward G. Robinson is also an intense film with a high-stakes game involved. Good assessment P.I. Forever.
Happy to see you enjoyed one of my favorite movies, and one that I watch at least once a year. I think that it is because I see a bit of myself in Eddie's self destructive behavior. Like all good movies it explores the human psyche, and gives us an insight into things that we might otherwise have even thought about. I was sorry to see in this video that you cut short Eddie's monologue while he and Sarah were having their picnic. It is something we should always remember when we watch someone doing a job, any job, that they are an expert at. "Just hadda show those creeps and those punks what the game is like when it's great, when it's REALLY great. You know, like anything can be great, anything can be great. I don't care, BRICKLAYING can be great, if a guy knows. If he knows what he's doing and why and if he can make it come off." I really enjoyed your review! Thank you!
Eddie was a tenacious raging fire dead set on whatever he wanted / needed come hell or high water even if it kills him. Those are the ones where you get out of the way.
A lot of symbolism in this movie. Being a pool player myself my girl calls me a pool hall bum at times. But at the end of the day Paul Newman was tutored by Willie Mosconi and shot all those shots you see. So to me this movie has inspired generations of player. I have my own face book pool group in Richmond Virginia called the RVA pool lovers alliance

Color of money sequel with Tom cuis3
One of the 100 greatest films ever made.

This film is Greek tragedy, in a pool room.
One of the greatest films ever made. You have highs and lows and the hotel scene in the bathroom just rips your guts out.
Paul Newman reprised his role of Fast Eddie in a sequel 35 years later in the 1986 movie "The Color of Money" co-starring with Tom Cruise.
I enjoyed that picture too, but they should have spent a minute or two explaining what happened to Burt Gordon (George C Scott). I'm not going to mention why as I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen 'The Hustler'.

Just a great, great film. Paul Newman and George C. Scott in particular are phenomenal.
Paul Newman Is One Of My Favorite Actors Ive Been Wondering Why Nobody Reacted To This Before Good Choice 👍🏾
Cool Hand Luke
I'm surprised this hasn't had more reactions as well.
your a legend for watching this forgotten classic!!
Got to check out the Color of Money. It’s the sequel to the Hustler and the film Paul Newman won his Academy Award for.
Absolutely one of my favorite movies. Paul Newman was such a great actor
Doing a reaction to The Hustler automatically makes you the best channel on UA-cam.
🤣🤣 👍🏽
What a great film...Paul Newman as Fast Eddie with Jackie Gleason as Fats. Love George C. Scott and Piper Laurie too. Favorite quote: "A 25% slice of something big is better than a 100% slice of nothing" 🤓
"you owe me money!!" as only George C. Scott could do it. i've been watching this movie for 50 years
@@luvlgs1 There's just something about the classics...i could watch them over & over and never get tired🤓
I've always been a fan of Jackie Gleason ❤. He was also a very good dramatic actor. Even though he was known for his comedic roles.
As you probably know Gleason was excellent in Rod Serling's "Requiem for a Heavyweight." But if you can find "Gigot," Gleason is a poor mute & the film is wonderful -- takes place in Paris, France. Directed by dancer/actor Gene Kelly.
Also two the BEST Newman, Gleason. Dont get better even today. Keep up the great work man!!!
My Dad really liked this movie. I saw it once but so long ago that I forgot its details. Thanks for bringing it back! "Piper Laurie is an American actress. RIP Piper Laurie
Jackie Gleason was the greatest!
Love this classic!
One of my all time favorite movies, countless films ripped off the style of hustle in this classic.
Epic video good buddy... You get a like from me.
Why thank you

Jackie Gleason legit shot good pool. Played his whole life
Great pick bro, not many people like or even know about the classics.
One of my top five films. Thanks for reacting.
You are very much welcome

You ought check out The Cincinnati Kid. Steve McQueen is a poker hustler, taking on The Man. Good flick
Great reaction to a great film. do "Twelve Angry Men" thanks.
Oh, check out video list. I have reacted to 12 angry men, the original and thank you for watching 👍🏾
I really appreciate that you are never loud! Some guys yell way too much.

In real life Jackie Gleason was one hell of a pool player
Recommendation for another great only to react to, " on the waterfront" starring Marlon Brando who played The godfather
Color of money. Check it out! It's the modern version with more lessons, only from today's point of view. You will definitely like it!
Eddie was a tenacious raging fire dead set on whatever he wanted / needed come hell or high water even if it kills him.
Those are the ones where you get out of the way.
You should really check out the movie cat on a hot tin roof
Ok, thanks for the suggestion
Max the bartender is played by Jake LaMotta, who was the subject of the movie RAGING BULL.
A lot of symbolism in this movie. Being a pool player myself my girl calls me a pool hall bum at times. A precursor to the 70’s auteur movement in Hollywood.. Disturbing and tragic, it’s a true American masterpiece..
5 months later and you still haven’t reacted to The Color of Money as a follow up?
Hey,I'm "A.W.B. & I love your reactions. Keep up the good Work.
$15K then was about $100K now.
