    These are gorgeous, gorgeous watches, but I'm not sure I'd call them pilot's watches. I think the fundamental, functional definition of a pilot's watch is extreme legibility at different angles and lighting conditions. That means high contrast, and large, easily distinguished hands & hour/minute markers. I've seen it in person, and my immediate impression was a dress watch dial on a tool watch body. I love it, and it adds versatility, but my pedantic tendencies takes issue with the pilot watch designation.

      @@Odysee505 I actually tried one on the other day at a dealer. So, my thoughts are its a beautiful watch without a doubt, but it is insanely light (to be expected of course), and in my opinion the bracelet width is a tad to small. I'd much prefer it if it was say 3mm wider. Besides that, love it. Now in debate mode - buy or not buy

    That salmon dial looks sweet! Great to have you making videos on the regular again, as I’ve always enjoyed your pov. Given your preferences, I’m very curious what you’d think of the Oris Cervo Volante pointer date. Maybe E.T. will lend you one?

    As far as less expensive watches with this much power reserve, Christopher Ward has a handful of watches with their SH21 movement that has a 5 day power reserve. The cheapest watch I saw them offer with it on their site now was £1895, and the cheapest sport watch on bracelet (to make it a more apples to apples comparison) was £2195. That being said I really like the case design and bracelet. I wish they had either used applied indexes though, or given it Arabic numerals to fit the traditional pilot aesthetic a bit more

    I just love this watch and am not at all bothered by the painted on markers. There's no flash, and no need to impress anyone. I feel this watch is meant to be enjoyed by the wearer.

    I have been a fan of the Pro Pilot series since Cal. 115. Its design and details are distinct and also functional.
    Regarding the price, most brands keep elevating prices, especially when some spec upgrades are brought in. Yes this isn't the price range Oris used to be, but before they only used stock movements and with less overall finishing.

    I think they look great and I love that they're titanium. The bezel, crown, and integrated bracelet all look excellent. Clasp looks cool too.
    Here's what I don't like:
    * I think the dials look too plain. Applied indices or applied logo would have been a bit better at this price-point. Something other than these pale matte dials.
    * I do question the "pilot" designation. I think of legibility whenever I think of a pilot's watch. I know, I know...what about Cartier Santos and Rolex AirKing...but is this really a pilot's watch.
    * Price point seems a bit high for this (120 hour power reserve is awesome, though)
    Anyway, great review as usual, Guy! Thank you.

    Nice watch but…….I’d like to see a more decorated movement, applied indices with more lume. Love the case and bracelet 😎! Best regards

    As much as I appreciate Oris as a brand they don't command the same brand cache as Omega or Grand Seiko. These models will struggle to compete at this price in my opinion.

    Kind of a lot of money for a rather simple watch. Oris used to be in the USA $1000 to $2000 range for price. I know some are quite a bit more. They used to have ETA or Selleta movements. I do like the case size but the dials and handsets are rather simple and boring. Just, in my opinion, Oris does have much better-looking watches to choose from. I am not knocking the brand. Usually, a pilot watch is supposed to be easy to read the time with big numbers around the dial for easy time reading.

  • @afcaton1
    @afcaton1 2 роки тому +6

    For this kind of money I would definitely get an Omega instead. Oris is great and I have a few in my collection, but $4k is way too much which I'm sure Oris will realize when they don't sell.

      A second hand Omega maybe worth it but there is nothing in the Omega range like this ORIS.
      I just got the blue Oris ProPilot x and am selling my Tudor Pelagos LHD to keep it. 10 year warranty, extremely comfortable and beautifully made. I wanted a watch for travel that's low profile and good quality. This fits the bill perfectly and also has better magnetic resistance than the Tudor too.

    These are gorgeous watches, but calling them Pilot's watches is stretching the definition too far, It's a sports watch.

  • @OperationNonsense
    @OperationNonsense 2 роки тому +2

    at this price level, oris placed itself right in the crossfire of Tudor, a place where oris will get utterly decimated. bad pricing strategy on the part of oris, consumers will vote with their dollars, and oris will fail at this pricing neighborhood.

  • @mountainhobo

    Extremely generically looking dials. Calling them "pilot" watches is like manufacturers calling a 5-door liftback a "coupe". Overall, meh. At those prices those will be short-lived models.
