From Wikipedia:
"They changed their name to Blackfoot to represent the American Indian heritage of its members: Jakson Spires (from Oklahoma) had a Cheyenne/French father and a Cherokee mother; Rickey Medlocke's father was Lakota Sioux and Blackfoot Indian, and his mother's side is Creek/Cherokee, Scottish and Irish; Greg "Two Wolf" Walker is part Eastern (Muskogee) Creek, a tribe recognized by the state of Florida, but not federally. Charlie Hargrett was the only white man of the original, classic line-up."
Jakson “Thunderfoot “ Spires. Dang, he was a good drummer.
Wow I did not know that - very interesting thanks for the info!!
Southern Rock kicked ass in 70s 80s. It was its own genre of music with killer musicians. Rocked Hard.
This song was written by bluegrass and Delta blues musician "Shorty" Medlocke - the grandfather of this band's frontman Rickey Medlocke. The song is best remembered for its harmonica intro, performed by Shorty, which mimics the sound of a steam locomotive blowing its whistle, pulling out of the station and accelerating to full speed.
Songs like “Highway Song”, “Rattlesnake Rocking Roller” & “Fox Chase” I’m certain you’ll enjoy the instrumentation on them. Love your reaction’s Biz.
Thanks fam
Don’t forget Searchin
Biz, Blackfoot is fire! Rickey Medlocke is now playing guitar in Lynyrd Skynyrd. I had the pleasure of seeing Blackfoot several times back in the 80s and they were always fantastic. Check out Highway Song next! You won't be disappointed. Awesome Southern rock band! Great reaction btw!
Love me some Blackfoot. Native indeed. This band should have been huge. Hit Highway Song or Fox Chase next... 🔥🔥😎😎
No kidding
That was Shorty Medlocke on harmonica. He also wrote the song.
Oh. Shorty was SIXTY-EIGHT years old when this was recorded! Played the daylights out of it.
His grandson was the lead singer and lead guitar player.
Who gets to cut a Top 20 single with their grandpa?
You can still say Indian. I'm a citizen of the Muscogee Creek Nation and most native Americans don't mind and wish that there is still a Washington Redskins football team.
The harmonica sounding like a train is incredible! Have not heard this for years!!!
... I agree! One of the greatest recordings and songs in the history of rock n roll! It gives me goosebumps every time!
Saw Blackfoot a couple of times, once opening for Molly Hatchet. They're from Florida, same area as Lynrd Skynyrd & Hatchet, around Jacksonville. The singer/guitar player for Blackfoot was a drummer for Skynrd in their early years, but he gracefully stepped aside when he realized drumming wasn't his forte. So he picked up the guitar & started his own/this band. Later, after Skynrd re-formed with survivors from the plane crash & the deceased singer's little brother on vocals, he joined them as one of the three guitarists. Saw him a few times with Skynrd as well! Another great choice, bro!
See ya!
🤘😎❤
...Wow! That brought back some memories. Last time I heard that played was Montgomery Gentry before the helicopter crash opening for THE MASTER, Hank Williams Jr.! I remember cause I didn't know anything they played, then they kicked that shit off & it was PARTY TIME!!!
✌😎
Me too
Rickey Metlocke lead singer is Blackfoot Native American Indian, Sioux, Creek and Cherokee.
He's also in Lynyrd Skynyrd now
Here is another Southern rock band they are on the softer side it is Atlanta rhythm Section here is a few of their song:
Spooky, so into you, champagne Jam
Highway Song next! it was even more popular 🔥
btw way don't forget Skynyrd!
Another Jacksonville, FL - based band. Rickey Medlocke is from Jacksonville. He’s been with Skynyrd since the 90s, and he was with them in 1970, as the drummer, but left to form Blackfoot. He plays guitar and sings lead for Blackfoot.
This song kicks ass.
I love watching younger generations hear the music I grew up with for the first time. They are so used to all this techno stuff with not much real feel to it. When they hear real voices, real musicians and heart felt lyrics. It tends to blow their minds.
Train ... Train...take me on out of this town.....let's Goooo!!
🎸💯 Blackfoot was a badass band, too‼🔥
"Train, Train" is definitely a banger‼☮ ❤ 🎶
🤯 Southern Rock is incredible‼
Yes, the band was named after the Indian tribe. I happened to be in a Christian rock band a few years ago, and our bass player was the original bass player, and one of the founding members of Blackfoot. The original band members all were Indian, or part Indian.
You did one of my very favorite songs!! Ricky Medlocke is a Blackfoot Native American and other members are also Native American! You hit the nail on the head! It doesn't matter how many times I hear this song, I got to get up and dance ! I love it!! You ought to do the live version Bizmatic, the energy is off the charts!! Ricky has been in the new version of Lynryd Skynyrd for years! But I love this band! Thank you!!
Oh Jesus, I’m Native American and I’m ok with Indian lol, too politically correct 😂.
But yes they murdered this song. One of the best. Also, yes it’s after the Indian tribe the BlackFoot.
Good Choice and 🔥 reaction. I’m laid up. Fell at work and broke a rib. This is the best medicine I had so far.
Ricky Medlocke had a GREAT vocal range. That whole album is great. Left Turn On a Red Light, Baby Blue, Wishing Well, I Got a Line On You, Run and Hide....all stellar. Ricky was an original member of Lynyrd Skynyrd as well. He left them to start Blackfoot, then went back and is still with them today. Super talented guy....and again, a great vocal range.
They were great live. They all switched instruments during the live shows. All are multi-talented. R.I.P. Jackson Spires.
Still have it on vinyl!!
Medlocke was not an original member of Skynyrd.
@@ElizabethJohnson-ss4ce....Uh....yes he was. It plainly says so on HIS OWN website;
"Rickey Medlocke, a founding and current member of Lynyrd Skynyrd and frontman for southern indigenous rock band Blackfoot, will release a new single on 1/19/2024 entitled, “Never Run Out Of Road” on storied record label Rock the Cause Records, to help provide funding, awareness, and resources in the fight against Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (MMIW)."
Unless you want to get very technical, and say that he wasn't a member of LS when they began under ANOTHER NAME (My Backyard), then fine. But Medlocke was an original member of the band, when they changed their name to LS.
@@reno8122 Funny how that's only on HIS website and not anywhere in Skynyrd history. Lynyrd Skynyrd (/lɛnərd ˈskɪnərd/, LEN-ərd SKIN-ərd)[2] is an American rock band formed in Jacksonville, Florida. The group originally formed as My Backyard in 1964 and comprised Ronnie Van Zant (lead vocalist), Gary Rossington (guitar), Allen Collins (guitar), Larry Junstrom (bass guitar), and Bob Burns (drums).
You are absolutely correct. Blackfoot is indeed a native reference. The lead guitar player talks about his nati e roots sometimes
The singer’s grandfather played the harmonica in this song. They named the band after their Native American tribe.
It is the name of a Native American tribe primarily i Montana. That's just a cool name! And who knows, a lot of southerners have some native ancestry!
I pretty sure every member of the band has significant amount of Native American blood. The name is actually a reflection of their heritage.
Pure native American band, southern rock and roll.
Another southern rock band is wet Willie and they have a few good songs as well they are also on the softer side:
Keep on Smiling
Weekend and
Street corner serenade
Great start into the world of Blackfoot: Others to consider- Left Turn on a red light, Highway Song, Diary of a Working Man, Railroad man, I Stand Alone, Feeling Good #BIZ
It'd be nice if you did a little research. Blackfoot was a native-American southern rock band. The song was written by Shorty Medlocke who does all of the blues harp work. His grandson, Rickey Medlocke, is the front man for the group. Rickey played drums and vocals for early Lynyrd Skynrd. Went back to Blackfoot and then joined them again in the 90;s as a guitarist.
Rickey Medlocke on guitar and vocals, who was a part of Lynyrd Skynyrd before they recorded their debut album and joined them again when they reformed after the plane crash. His grandfather, Shorty Medlocke, wrote this song and kills on the harmonica opening.
I saw Blackfoot in Savanna Ga. and Shorty did the intro live. It was incredible. I think it was 1981.
You are always correct with your selections, BIZ! Thanks.
Thanks fam
" Highway Song "
" Left Turn on a Red Light "
This is just good ol' drinkin', dancin' & fightin' on a Saturday night.
Yeah, that's what we said when this came on every time... Whoo, Damn! Just like that.
Boom! Now that is some country rockin'! Highway Song is next.
Glad to see you finally got to this song! Banger 🔥🔥🔥
Now that is a song to wake up to! So glad this popped up in my morning stream.
We were spoiled with all of these bands from my generation.
Members of the band had native american heritage. Ricky Medlocke was Lakota Sioux and Blackfoot Indian, hence the name Blackfoot.
I will say Biz!!! Look at you Bro you just named the cream of southern rock bands! You do pick out some of the best classic rock songs to react too! Another great reaction!
😎😎 lol
Blackfoot are Gritty , Saw them once live , they kicked ass with early Ricky Medlocke ,
Tip for The Greatest Southern Rock Song ,
The Outlaws - Green Grass and High Tides (Live) OutlawsVideo 20:58
This Song Trust Me is Guitar Frenzy Mode 🎸🎸🎸
It never needed much lyrics because WHAT A JAM!!! Yes they are from the Blackfoot Tribe!!! There is no racism there bro...great stuff
Members of this band were a mixture of Cherokee, Blackfoot, Lakota tribes.
Country Music, Rock music and blues combined equals Southern Rock
One of my faves Biz. Still play this song with a few bands I jam with. Just a stripped down rocker for sure! Thanks for getting to it.
Blackfoot singer/guitarist Ricky Medlocke and bassist Greg T Walker were early members of Lynyrd Skynyrd and Medlocke is in the current version.Ricky's grandfather Shorty Medlock an old blues player wrote the song and plays the harmonica at start of song. You should do Highway Song,Left Turn On a Red Light,Spending Cabbage .Baby Blue,I Got a Line on you
That good ole Southern Rock hits ya hard! There is a video of Shorty Medlocke playing the harmonica on the song. Next up should be Highway Song.
Georgia Satellites - "Keep Your Hands to Yourself". Great song. You're welcome.
BLACKFOOT Belongs in The ROCK N ROLL HALL OF FAME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lynard Skynard, Molly Hatchet, 38 special, Blackfoot, Allman Brothers.. all from Jacksonville.
This was awesome! Love Blackfoot and this reaction video! I kept waiting for you to mention Lynyrd Skynyrd with all those other southern rock bands ... but you did not! I thought that was hilarious! No doubt you probably know that the lead singer and slide guitar player on Train Train is now the lead guitar player for Lynyrd Skynyrd ... The Legendary Rickey Medlocke!
Wet Willie - Another Southern Rock Band
Shoty did the intro
,Cub coda did the heavy in-between. Awesome work
Dude, Biz. Blackfoot Native American Tribe. Real Deal!!
Three of the band members are native, and Blackfoot is named after the tribe.
You've been killing it, Biz.
Thank you
Check out the band Testament, Chuck Billy is the lead singer, a native american who is one of the best Thrash Metal singers of All-Time.
Cub Koda from the band Brownsville Station played the amplified harmonica Solo
Oh yeah 👍 these guys played in a field around the corner from me in the early 90's 3 days of good ROCK-N-ROLL
my son loved this song during his train phase when he was young.
Pat Travers Band, “Boom Boom, Out Go The Lights”, “Snortin’ Whiskey, Drinkin’ Cocaine”
This one was great. ♥Too bad they aren't around anymore and hardly ever reacted to. A true shame. So glad you are doing this one.
That particular tune has always energized me when the time came! Another branch of the Skynyrd tree. Shorty Medlocke killing the harp.
Blackfoot is an Indian tribe that's where they got their name from Ricky Medlock the founder of Blackfoot and the lead guitarist is Indian
Blackfoot is an excellent band, your choice got my subscription
Thank you for the sub 🙌🏿
Great reaction Biz,😁 great pick!!! keep jammin, I am 👍🎶♥️
Seen them late 70s Wichita falls TX. I was on acid and when they played train train my whole body was vibrating.
We wore this album out back in 77
The funny thing is they called all of those bands Southern Rock when really they are mainly Blues bands.
Check out Highway Song by this band…competes with Free Bird, in my opinion. And by the way, Blackfoot is a Tribe of Native Americans… keep doing what you do!
"Blackfoot" is an American Indian Tribe like the Cherokee, Apache etc... and some (most) of the members of the band have Native American ancestry and yes that is why they chose the name Blackfoot to honor that heritage.
HIGHWAY SONG is the Greatest radio song of All Time.
Saw them live way back I like their style
Definitely has that Southern Blues feel to it.
Blackfoot Mountains. or the Injuns. lool Just say it brother. Don't buy into the insanity.
They named it after the blackfoot mountains. Which is where the blackfoot indians got their name too...
You are pulling some great songs!
😎
Fox Chase is a Blackfoot must. More Southern Rock for the soul. 🤘😎
Blackfoot "Highway Song" is another brilliant song but "Train Train" is my favourite
Now you cooking Biz!!! If you can't jam to this then you are braindead! The whole album is fire! Ricky Medlocke from Skynyrd killing it! Southern Rock at it's best!
Great reaction to a great Southern Rock song!
The Blackfoot "Strikes' album is definitely worth a track by track review
That Strikes album is great. Left Turn on a Red Light is one of my favorites on it.
A friend of mine plays drums for Medlock on occasion, and he can still rock.
There's a Charlie Daniels band song "No Place to Go" from the Fire on the Mountain album you should check out sometime. Charlie's more famous for his fiddle playing, but he can play the hell out of the guitar. Great vocalist also. The song Saddle Tramp is another goodie.
Lol Blackfoot is a Native Tribe! Rickey Medlocke might disagree about using Indian since its tattooed on his arm
This is "fire" need the intro too though. Biz, you're killing it, dude.
That whole album kicks bootie.
It was a staple in high school.
You would be hard pressed to find a chevelle or camaro without a strikes cassette in the tape deck.
Thanks! Don't ever change brother! PEACE!!!!!
Thank you
You're most welcome.
the Blackfoot were a notoriously violent native American tribe from the Montana area...
Rickey Metlock is native Americans. Hence the Blackfoot name.
I LOVE your reaction to this
Black foot indian ? Another great choice biz !! Thanks
This is a new one for me! It’s fire 🔥 ☮️❤️🎸👵🏼
Yo biz. Anotha one 🤘🔥
🤘🏿🤘🏿🤘🏿
Two Trains - Little Feat
Couldn't agree more great song!
Ricky's father played the harmonica on this song.
Biz, the answer is that the woman knows that the dude is getting it on the side but shevis in it for the money and is also getting satisfied on the side.
Saw them open for Motley Cru back in ‘84-‘85
Allman Brothers - Filmore East Live - Long Version of their Songs
This song doesn’t need many lyrics. Bad ass!
Don’t forget Lynyrd Skynyrd. Southern rock pioneers.
he has done a lot of LS reaction vids
