This is an animal that eats small crocodiles in the wild. Amazing what you can learn when using Google. She’s waiting to eat. And listening to everything going on around her.
This guy is very lucky: he's got a great job. As for the commentator below who said the bird could attack him, that's true. But it looks like the bird has done this show many times, and is focused on the food. The man is far more likely to be attacked by humans, or run over by a human-driven car. He looks super-familiar with the bird, and likely can read its body language. Animals usually give off signals before attacking. Humans sometimes don't.
goognam goognws - The hand feeding is clearly for the benefit of the people watching, not for the bird. She plays along with it, most of the time. Shoebills are amazing creatures, but I would rather see one in a more natural setting without it being a well trained “pet”. As at least one other commenter mentioned, this does have a certain SeaWorld vibe to it - not the good, happy fun time vibe; the sad vibe when you see whales and dolphins, etc., spending their entire lives in fish tanks instead of oceans. 🙁 Shoebills are well documented to be solitary animals; but I have to wonder exactly how solitary, and is that a chosen lifestyle, or is it forced upon them by a decreasing population? Perhaps the zoo has partnered with other zoos to increase the wild population through captive breeding? I have no idea. Sadly, attempts to save species by breeding them in zoos is often unsuccessful in increasing the wild populations, for a number of reasons. Having animals like this amazing bird in a zoo does insure attendance, and attendance brings in money that funds programs. Futaba clearly does not have the life she would have in the wild, but I’m not sure that means she is depressed or feels lonely because of it. Watching a short video of a performance doesn’t reveal much of anything about how She behaves, eats, etc., the rest of her time in captivity.
@@lonnarheaj Yes, your intuitive guess that this cannot compare to a normal shoebill's life in Africa is correct. I first saw this bird specie in a African wildlife documentary . The main issue is not at all about solitary life, but habitat. This bird lives in large african swamps amidst high watery plants and it hunts big catfishes. Its walks in muddy waters not on hard concrete and can fly and raise young. Living in a cramped enclosure is no good. Just because his hunger is satisfied in a zoo doesn't justify captivity. If you want to help wildlife, which everybody should, for our own good as that of animals, then that is done by fighting corporation destroying wildlife habitat for profit. Not by putting animals in zoos. Animals do not need us to interfere with their life they need us to stay out of the way and not cut trees, bulldoze land. We need to start thinking about human overpopulation encroaching on animal habitat. This is a major problem. These are the kinds of efficient ways to help wild animals. Not zoos. Zoos do the opposite, they give a false impression that animals are safe and can simply be stored in enclosures, fed adequate food while their habitat are being destroyed by greedy corporations and humans swarming the planet.
@dark zeratul open a dictionary and read the definition of anthropomorphism. What the shoebill "appears to be" is only your own projection of human behavior on it.
I now feel like the biggest shit heel for enjoying this beautiful creature. You are right. ,we must " free Willy". Could she. Be released back into the wild safely? My eyes have been opened. I don't know if I should thank you or be pissed.😉😭😭😭
Not all animals can survive in nature unfortunately ;(. But yes, atleast they are doing what the can and the enclosure is super small and it seems very well cared for.

It looks like a prehistoric bird
Amazing!
The bird seems like the tall silent type.
え、この子花鳥園の子なんや。

I want to hug that bird
大御所の風格十分ありますな笑
Why am I getting an awful seaworld vibe...?
The bird is so quiet, and he...,
is talking like a machine gun.
I1m just wondering who is the intelligent one.
Pacero im waiting for the bird to slap the man but its a peaceful bird...
Well said!!! Bravo to both of you!👏👏👏
He is amazing
What a fascinating critter.
Cute bird, cute young man. Cute video.
Get one more of his own species or send him where HIS type lives !
Imagine how we would feel all by ourselves ??
Shoebills are solitary animals. Futaba appears to be in love with her handler anyway. She is likely as happy as a shoebill can be.
@@lonnarheaj you are fantasizing. This animal belongs to africa swamps, not being fed live fishes by a human.

Qué pena que no se puede entender lo que habla el joven ,debe de salir las letras en español
日本人照顧的很好住的地方很乾淨
This young man begs to get an eye gouged or hurt. This is a wild animal, it can become impredictable at any moment. How foolish.
