  • Cash, voucher and market-based humanitarian assistance stimulates local economies affected by an emergency. This video explains how, when emergency cash transfers are injected into markets, multiplier effects can yield long-term development and enable crisis-affected communities to rebuild their livelihoods. I've been working in social protection for many years and I have to say that this is a really excellent little video which conveys the multiplier effect concept to a wide audience. Really excellent

The concept is rather simple, and the video did a good job in representing it.
Nevertheless, it is worth mentioning that in reality; meat, clothes, and savings are not attainable items for most refugees, most of the income would go to basic food items such as grain or rice, some would have to spend it all on medicine or even shelter, and in the vast majority of cases, it won't be enough for either of these choices.
I am just saying this to indicate the needs of conflict victims are much more than what is being provided...

ALAS!!! Someone had finally explained fully what a "multiplier effect" is in the simplest form as possible! So many douchebags in youtube trying make themselves look so bloody intelligent by using stupid big words just to make themselves look and sound good!!. So thank you for this :D.

nice theory but in reality...it would only work if people create added value and sell it outside affected community ie. attract cash from outside. Otherwise 50usd grant will not magically split into 100usd cash within the community. There's an assumption of buying locally made shoes or produce, although they nicely admit "some of which" so I would ask how much is "some of which" - 50% or 5%? If it is 5% (like I would argue in most cases) then multiplier effect does not really work cause 95% benefits those outside affected communities ie. vouchers given for food in Syria surely benefit local traders but even more traders who bring food from Turkey. It is perfectly fine but let's not speak about multiplier effect in such case and this is most common case, I am afraid...
