Also depressing, as these old Diesels hold great memories of my dad. He was a driver. Many cab rides in 37s, 47,,, also many 08 24 and 25s. Thanks Dad. Thanks for sharing Howard. 👍😎
Born in 1952, and we hated all these diesel locomotives replacing our beloved steam engines back in the 1950/60's...although now I feel sorry for them as well. Still have all my Ian Allen spotters books and shed directory up in the loft, when we travelled around the UK steam shed bashing as kids. Happy Days !
To buy a train that's going to scrapped would be expensive but not as expensive so if you wanted to buy one of the 37s in this video I would reckon around £400K-600K depending on the shape its in it could ultimately reduce to about £125K.
Great shame 37410&37417 I last saw 2007 Kingswear 37415 was featured in a training film with BR driver & traction inspector Richard Hudson explaining the procedure to starting a class 37
always found these videos very interesting, seeing all the old stuff lined up before scrap, its always nice to look in and see whats there. sure its sad in some aspect but these locos (for the most part) have reached their end of life anyway and they'd have to be scrapped eventually
if you want to preserve them ask what ever company wants rid of them get your own personal train shed restore them then company's will pay you to loan your train out to other company's
What a waste of perfectly good locos that could have been fixed up and sent abroad for a new lease of live in poorer country it just comes to show how rich this crappy country is when they can just get rid of perfectly good locos that have stood the test of time and buy foreign crap from usa and spain it makes me mad! As these loco's was built in an era when Britain was booming now we're a joke we produce nothing!!!🤬🤬🤬
David Ball interesting, shame about all the 37/4 that were scrapped, ironically not long after they were needed again. Personally I wish 37428 was saved, would of been nice to see it preserved or running on the mainline in its royal Scotsman maroon with large golden 37428 numbers in the side.
@@Channel-ij5px yes in EWS and there mad push for the class 66 it seems they overlooked many things 37's were needed on cambrian coast maintenance because of weight limited bridges. the 66's they got had bad traction motors so had less traction effort than 56's 58's & 60's but to late most are all gone now and all we have are those 66's
A lot of people are saying that these should be saved when there isn’t enough spare parts to restore them to running condition and machining new ones is very costly.
@Chiltern Transport Productions ah ok, sorry. Its the fact that you said 'bother' it looked like you were being pissy. Thats the problem with comments, you cant hear the tone of voice
very sad, yet again clowns at work.the power units could be used as spares for the preservation people. along with bogies etc.were these locos not offered for sale in the first place.it was bad enough losing electric locos 20001 20002 and 20003 in 1969 to cashmores scrapyard in newport. why did so many class 76s have to go?. so we dont need to go to Bertram Mills circus when we can go to c f booths.are they open this xmas?
whats even worse is they cut up 24 nimrod aircraft at woodford cheshire that were almost new mmmm we spent millons of pounds nay sorry billions of pounds on them to build and develope mmmmmm just to buy the american version AWAC MMMMMM
It’s like everything, even if you could afford to save one, would you ever get the time and money to restore it, ?..just look at the un-finished car, motorcycle and truck projects out there, waiting for that buyer to finish them…
I can’t watch more than a minute of this… person recording sounds like they are constantly about to erupt into childish laughter … like sniggering… extremely distracting….
Could have kept all 37/4s at least. ETH fitted, reliable versatile, liked by drivers and spotters. Cant wait to see the 66s in scrap yards, bloody boring things they are. Typical railway attitude, spent money on the Green 37,, then scrap it !! Dicks in offices. Looks good on paper. 😡🤬 Nice vid, but sad to see. Poor Bont-y-Bermo
Here here! Strange that I see diesels being cut up and against a background of sad music (my selection) I shed not a tear. Revert steam locos being cut up, then the lump in my throat is there and the the odd tear. Maybe a generation things?

Videos like this breaks my heart
I do apologise!
Thanks for the video Howard. Nothing lasts forever.

a sad end for 37426.. the miles i had behind that loco back in the day, it will be long remembered. RIP
It's sad to see them reduced to this.
A great shame that there was no opportunity to preserve ‘087 - RIP:-(
Plenty of these classes have been preserved can't save everything
087 coulda been preserved by the KWVR. That’s what it’s name was
Seeing that deltic sitting there for scrap is so sad, all of these are. Love the sound of 37s pulling. At least there’s still some in use
I'd buy one if my back garden was bigger (I remember seeing Class 47s being built at Crewe, so at least I have outlasted them!)
There's still some.about 😊
@@soulman3590 So am I, just!
@batman51 lol that made me laugh 😃
So sad to see so many iconic trains waiting to be scrapped!!!😢😢😢
reminds me when i visited Vic Berry scrapyard. Nothing on our planet lives forever. Enjoyed viewing
Id love to buy one of these
Remember 37426 -431 based in cardiff in large logo get them on a sunday go from weston super mare to weston milton in the summer of 86 /7
That 47 loco is in good nic surely it could have been stored and passed on to a heritage railway so as them 37s
Noooo, shame the video is old, would’ve bought one and donated it to a heritage railway
Got a million quid spare then?
HSTHoward I wish, but since it was scrap it would be 100k
You reckon?! 😂
@@HSTHoward most locos like the 37s were around £60k scrap in 2012, so easily under £100k a year later

100% bang on target, sadly - makes you ashamed to be British
Such good locos gone to waste
Poor girl. Plenty of life left in her

How much is a sliced cab
37411 & D 6990 BR green looked as if they should be preserved… and what was all that smoke pouring out of it ? Looked like dry ice.
Someone pulled the fire chord!
bet DRS enjoyed sending them locos to the scrappers to cut up!
What’s happening at 5:32 ?
Someone activated the fire system
Wait u can just walk round this place??
No. This was a guided tour.
I would of had 37428 if I could of
A lot of people are saying that these should be saved when there isn’t enough spare parts to restore them to running condition and machining new ones is very costly.
There is enough there to mend the better condition ones there
You should have bought them. If you had a big enough yard you could have put em there.
:( - lovely video mate
Any auctions ??
Do you work there or can anyone go in?

Nooooooooooooooooooo whyyyyyy
Why isn't scrapping trains against the law :( trains don't deserve to die
Life expired.
It is against the law in Victor Tanzig's Thomas stories.
Train operators need to make money, and these locomotives were uneconomical to keep in service.
ARE THEY GOING TO BUY ANY 37s AND SAVE THEM OR JUST A LOT OF TALK EH! mmmmmmm
Shame they can re power them like the class 69s
