Good idea imo. Anything that can keep the temps down when they're working hard has to be a good thing. Is there anything that can be done to lessen the risk of the oil cooler issue the Paj's have sometimes? Has happened to a couple of people I know with them and it can be rather expensive or worse.
@@budget4x4life I have seen that people have said that an O ring can fail so maybe replacing that could help? I have seen a post where a low k one failed but most seem to be at higher k's. Seems most notice when oil comes out of the coolant bottle but if you didn't notice it and kept driving it could be ugly.
@oldbloke204 yeah interesting. So far I haven't heard of an NS with this issue so I won't touch mine but for other models probably best to replace it every 100k with a manifold clean as well 🙂💯
Best not to mount a cooler that way as they don't totally fill and air can get trapped at the top of the cooler mounting sideways or upside down is better so all air can escape for maximum efficiency
Thanks mate definitely true but the factory hose at the bottom won't reach the top unfortunately. Will have to get an additional hose with a brass fitting to connect to the other one 🙂
Another great video mate. I wonder if I need to stop watching your feed as I keep getting upgrade ideas…. Nah I will just do some overtime to fund the habit 😂
I've owned 6 Pajero Exceeds V6s over the last 18 years, towed a 2t boat, drove over Stockton, Moreton and Fraser and never ever had a gearbox overheat warning. I've now had a 2010 Prado 150 Kakadu diesel for about 2months and the first run up a very steep hill and it throws a gearbox overheat warning after about 500 metres. So now I'm searching for an external transmission cooler. (BTW, I was given the Prado, not my choice)
@@budget4x4life We could argue all day about the cost of ownership, maintanence, fuel usage and the type of driving you do, and luck (...did somebody say 'new injector pump') but in the end its all about which one makes you happy. Its a bit like people telling me to pump the tyres to 40psi to save a few cents in fuel, I tell them 32psi is a comfortable ride and I'm happy to pay a few cents more each week. Thanks for the video.
Hi, did You have problems with overheating the transmission? It happened to me twice, that the transmission overhwating warning came on the dashboard and I wonder if anything is wrong with the transmission or I just need a bigger coooler. Cheers
Hey mate this hasn't happened to mine. I would highly suggest you get a gauge to keep an eye on the temps. Your transmission has overheated so you should change out the oil asap. Could be many things like your cooler being damaged, towing? Driving steep hills or offroading in the wrong gear etc
@@budget4x4life Thank You for reply. I Got it checked by the transmission service and everything was ok. It happened on steep hills on low range but the speed was very slow. I think I need the bigger cooler and it will solve the problem.
Not really mate however it's still good to have especially if you do a lot of a beach driving but other than that if you just use it for normal use don't need it 💯
Not that I'm a expert or anything, just digging for info. But a lockup kit is not necessarily the end all solution, because the gearbox can't be in a locked state in all scenarios. So ñ bigger and better cooler helps a lot. Nice video. If I may and I am not criticizing, Pajero don't like other auto transmission fluid. Stick with Mitsubishi oil, Dia Queen, always!! Seen numerous guys have trouble after using other oil and then it is an expensive exercise. Just my 2 cents.

For us dumb'ezzz,
You need to show us how to refill, step by step.
Thanks for sharing
NS has dipstick NT onwards on the gearbox 😃💯
Huge thanks for the results at the end.
No worries 💯

I would personally replace it before the internal cooler dies. That's about all you can do unfortunately

😄😄😄 mate...plenty good stuff coming so you need to start overtime now hahaha
Hi. Great videos! When you installed the new aux cooler for transmission oil you did not remove the old cooler. Why did you not remove the old cooler?
@@torvincentvredal290 thanks mate. Simple, 2 is better than 1 🙂

Yeah if only it wasn't so heavy on fuel I'd take a petrol too 💯🔥

Been looking for a cooler that is made someplace other then China. Dont want to spend over $300. Seems I found it, thanks to this video.

Can not mount it with lines on bottom - wrong - i hope you mounted it like original on or lines on the top
Been a while with it like this mate no problem 🤙🏼🙂

I agree mate. Temps have gone down and if you tow in 4th I don’t see the need for a lockup. I believe it comes with 3/8 cheers
