I have been trying to put live gold prices in my portfolio on excel for the past week and haven’t found a single video that helped until yours. You are awesome man !
This is incredibly helpful! Other videos assume we have the web browser import option automatically available. I did not. This allowed me to get the data I needed! Thank you!
Error when doing so "This Web query returned no data. To change the query, click OK, click the arrow on the name box in the formula bar, click the name of the external data range for the Web query, right-click the selection and then click Edit Query."
Excellent work! Thank you. The directions for the PC are super easy and I had no idea what to do on a MacBook, but I found your very concise video. I just tried it and it worked.
Thank you one trillion times! I have been searching all over the web to find the solution. I am learning financial queries in the MBA program and using a Mac. All the school videos are on a PC. You ROCK. I subscribed and liked it. 🤩 PS I also shared this with all my classmates.
Great demo - worked perfectly... except in my case I knew that the .iqy file had an invisible ".txt" extension appended to its filename (that is the MacOS's typical default for hiding file extensions) - so I added one step. I adjusted the Finder preferences momentarily to "Show all filename extensions" enabling me to delete it - leaving only .iqy at the end. I think that the one difference between your video & another one I watched earlier - which would not work for me - was the DOS formatting of the text / iqy file. The other tutorial did not specify the need to make it DOS & maybe that's why it didn't work for me. In your case, I suspect that maybe you can skip the right clicking and renaming of the greyed out file steps. For me it was not greyed out & was pickable without needing to use the right-click/rename trick. This might be because of my changing its invisible extension from txt to iqy. Question: If I give the spreadsheet to someone without including the iqy file, then do you know if the web connection will still continue to work? Or does the .iqy file need to always remain accompanied with the Excel file?
Thank you SO MUCH! This was easy to understand. I viewed multiple other videos but none of them worked for me. I will use this for my family history searching. I go to a page like Ancestry, run my query, copy the link and follow your instructions and I have the results in Excel. And I can refresh to see if there is anything new. Very Sweet. I'm so happy.
If I do it this way and then open the document in a different computer will it still work? Or does the computer where I open it needs to have the .iqy documents?
I'm not getting this in MacBook while doing same from Google spreadsheet to excel. I copied the link from spreadsheet and did the same to excel, but datas were not added to excel
How do you select a specific piece of information from the website. I mean, if you want the batting average of 10 people from last season, how would you do it?
Hi. I have a mac but don't have Excel nor Word. I have Numbers. Here is what I need. I want to add some online information to Numbers. For instance bet results or any online information(Kinda scraping info from web to Excel, Google spreadsheet). When these informations are changing I want to see update in Number spreadsheet too. Is it possible??? TIA!
Im creating a Excel Fantasy-premier league table for my friends, combiding to different leagues. Tried this, everything went smooth the Excel-file said it was importing data. Got an error message saying it couldnt open the website. Didnt find the internet or Proxy-server. What is wrong?
Thank you very much..worked.. Now that i have the excel sheet with the data in it do i have to save the word document for it to keep updating data the next day??
Hello friends, I have a question. It is a good method to extract data from a single page. What should someone like me who wants to extract data from 540 separate pages do? Can anyone help me on this issue? I THANK YOU VERY MUCH TO OUR VALUABLE FRIEND FOR THE VIDEO.
Hey Drew, this is a great video but I need your help. I am trying to create a spreadsheet with advanced batting stats for my fantasy baseball team. Every time I do what your video and others say it does not import the entire sheet. I am not interested in the standard batting, I am more interested in the advanced hitting. I have used multiple websites now and it has not worked. Can you help me? Thank you!
Thanks..yeah used excel on windows for years…Mac is a bit clunky..no keyboard shortcuts…and not as many features as windows version…Mac environment is so much nicer though…power query I think is now available on Mac….
I have the same error. The error I get is "This Web query returned no data. To change the query, click OK, click the arrow on the name box in the formula bar, click the name of the external data range for the Web query, right-click the selection and then click Edit Query."
VERY HELPFUL. Microsoft does not help at all with this. This guy deserves a raise
Amazingly Helpful. I cannot imagine what the MS Excel team was thinking when they were developing for the Mac... Thanks again
lols
agree, my god, those iqy files being greyed out ... took me an hour to figure it with the help of this video

I’m guessing it’s because we are trying to compile data from a password protected site.
I got the same one. Any solution?

How could you compile data from different webpages into a single excel sheet? Ex) comparing 2 players stats against each other?
It's possible to share this sheet with a regular PC excel user, or will be some problem by doing this?
I have a new Macbook with the M1 chip and Office 365. I don't have "Run Web Query." How can I import data using my Mac?
Really helpful, thank you!!

If I don’t have a “data”on the top ?? How to create it
I did the same thing you did but on mine it says there's an error :( What did I do wrong?
Thanks..yeah used excel on windows for years…Mac is a bit clunky..no keyboard shortcuts…and not as many features as windows version…Mac environment is so much nicer though…power query I think is now available on Mac….
excellent!
how can you let it do backround refresh? when i delete a row and refresh it, it restores all data.
can you delete the saved .iqy file or do you have to keep it?
Can I set up to refresh data every 5 minutes?
Worked
Didn't work on mine. I followed every step but I couldn't rename the file I saved :(
I got stuck there too. Were you able to figure it out? If yes, please share how you did it. Thank you.
What if there is an API key required?
This might be the single reason I am never buying Mac again. this is ridiculous.
What if the website that you are getting the data need a log in ?
I have the same error. The error I get is "This Web query returned no data. To change the query, click OK, click the arrow on the name box in the formula bar, click the name of the external data range for the Web query, right-click the selection and then click Edit Query."
