i remember one rainy night in december 2022, meowgi came to my house looking disheveled and sheepish, and he forced me against my will to map for a little project called Junkfood, and I nervously acccepted
I commented to him in the Junkfood 3 trailer. I greet him and all his team, Junkfood 1 was the very first wad i ever downloaded and played aside the classics.
“Oh, I guess this WAD doesn’t have secret maps.” “Oh, he’s covering them after the normal levels! Neat!” “Oh hey, this is one of those WADs with a map 33! Cool!” “Oh… oh god.”
Oh you're not kidding Ngl I find this both hilarious but also feel some fatigue watching this review for some reason, maybe it's the ton of slaughtery maps I gotta imagine the Dean of Doom feeling exhausted from doing this April Fools meme (tho this is just as funny as Mock 2 for me)
"The best part is when you find a keycard, you can call 36 Archvile waiters for endless refills on everything. Supersize me." He just has such a way with words.
I think this is probably the best model for April fools episodes going forward. Like you said last year, it can be difficult to come up with new ideas for joke episodes, so i think doing (mostly) straight faced reviews of less-than-serious wads hits the spot quite nicely.
It will never cease to amaze me how the Doom custom content landscape has room for comfortable nostalgia, wild ambition, left-field art for arts sake, brooding nihilism, _and_ irreverent humor like what this WAD offers.
@@spase667 Considering there's a meme of trying to get Doom to run on *everything*, it really is! Doom is more than a game, it's *life*. Which is SUPER ironic considering the whole series consists of death and killing demons in literal hell.
The brown lion textures in map 11 were supposed to be switches but SLADE removed the "activated" textures during texture cleanup. Oops! Thanks for covering the wad
A couple bits about Double Bypass: - I had spent around a week actually planning what the map would look like without drawing a single linedef in the editor, and what I ended up with was basically the shape that ended up being reflected in the map and the entire first half. Everything else came from the rush that the time limit brought. - The "gore wall" exists to prevent the wall of Imps and Arch-Viles from immediately flooding upon grabbing the BFG, it activates to kill the Baron blockage in their way and then server to break up line of sight on a loop past the cybers - I am apparently the Shotgunner guy now, birthed from the maligned practice of "expending bullets on a Shotgunner to get the next weapon" that has been around since the dawn of time. I embrace this. I'm glad you enjoyed that map, it's probably my best production I could make in that time range, and around the difficulty I hoped it would be. Junkfood as a whole strikes that really well as a grabbag of whatever, where people can come and go as they please. I'd put it alongside MSCP as a polite introductory and sample platter of the genre as a whole. I'll probably never touch the back half from a combination of time and talent constraints, but it's something for everyone.
What a surprise episode, glad you enjoyed my goofy mish mash of a map and the wad as a whole! My JF2 maps are even sillier and lean more into flavours of BFG slaughter but the weird texturing is still there.
raddicted here, you're the undisputed doomtuber king for reviewing something like junkfood lol. hope you review junkfood2 and dont go into a coma from the 80-something-levels it has ;D
Just hope he doesn't quit the series by then. Considering the S3 finale was a Sunlust teaser, there's a chance Season 4 might be it, even if none of us want it to be it.
holy shit, the madman actually did it! I'm glad you enjoyed this smorgasbord for what it is, despite it's length and difficulty. Absolutely loved the witty food review-style, and surprised you gave some of the more insane maps as much time as you did. one fun fact (or not) about map20 after finishing the video: the original concept of the finale is that you will need to run into the tunnel to avoid the ping-pong rockets(hence the monster-blocking blue arrows indicating that) however you can see that I straight up gave up balancing in the end and just put 6 megaspheres there, I was wanting to put none I think
Oh Dean, if only you could have heard the maniacal cackle that escaped me when I heard your (very good!) Willy Wonka impression. Superb work, simply superb.

26:04 it is actually pretty funny that this is by far the most viewed video that contains anything by NEFX, and you turned it all the way down to 0 after just a few seconds.
hi awesome video, basically a video dedicated to all my friends in this game, couldn't ask for anything better from you. Hopefully this set halfway speedrunnerpilled/challengemapperpilled you, because all we make are shitposts, art that will leave you at a loss for words, something really fun, or something unbearably painfully hard, or a combination of the above. Apologies in advance if you play or have played anything else I have made, I will make easier stuff soon ^_^. As for my map you reviewed, you give my map too much credit, I just picked mario kart music because it fit the skybox and colors and it was one of the most recently uploaded things on modarchive at the time. Friday Night Funkin is completely irrelevant to the map too! But Im glad a combination of fnf (a game i havent played), Mario kart (a game i havent played), aqua teen hunger force (a show i havent watched), and a silly map were enough to entertain you for 5 minutes. Thanks again for the review! To conclude the essay, #JusticeForTerrarienn, he really did distill junkfood into its pure essence and stayed true to the speedmapping under 3 hrs idea unlike most of us, plus he's a pacifist player making slaughter 😌
Totally agree about terrarienn's work, he followed the assignment of chill bfg spam perfectly and captured the true spirit of junkfood in his maps. Those are really fun to speedrun/max, too. (I don't think though that people frequently broke 3hrs rule in the first junkfood, maybe only a few. In sequels however... yeah, that's another story. But terrarienn stayed true to the speedmapping nature of junkfood even then.) Anyway, yeah, great video, but #JusticeForTerrarienn
Fun fact: "I love you so much, honey bun!" Was a pun of the desert Honey Bun. Honestly, it genuinely didn't occur to me until I went to the store the other day with my dad.
The Zinger box reference confirms the mapper is likely Australian. Also this level of Slaughter is likely Russian overkill/OP weapon mod only territory.
34:44 i assumed the mapname was a reference to the operation ivy song (healthy body sick mind), but maybe it's just a saying (tho i presume the pun counter stopped at this point and of course op ivy is much less well known than u2 lol)

Peter's dancing videos were the equivalent of shock videos when I first discovered them. Now, I'm simply amused.
lmao at the squished mount pain
the worse version of the tnt intro for this april fools episode is a great touch lmao
This was a fun ep! It was nice to see the April Fools ep be a semi-serious review of a not so serious WAD.
26:04 it is actually pretty funny that this is by far the most viewed video that contains anything by NEFX, and you turned it all the way down to 0 after just a few seconds.
got several laughs out of me, and I got to watch you review a slaughter wad! what a great day
I just finished it and im watching again!!
Can't wait for Eviternity 2
hi awesome video, basically a video dedicated to all my friends in this game, couldn't ask for anything better from you.
But terrarienn stayed true to the speedmapping nature of junkfood even then.) Anyway, yeah, great video, but #JusticeForTerrarienn
just intoxicated myself on carbs and feel like puking, finally ready to watch this
update: actually no i think i am genuinely food intoxicated
Fun fact: "I love you so much, honey bun!" Was a pun of the desert Honey Bun. Honestly, it genuinely didn't occur to me until I went to the store the other day with my dad.
"This can't be good for me, but I feel great." Postal 2 playthrough when?
The Zinger box reference confirms the mapper is likely Australian.
Also this level of Slaughter is likely Russian overkill/OP weapon mod only territory.
I am surprised there wasn't a single reference to Kick Attack in here.
...ah who am I kidding lmao
A few notes about 'Colazione da Burghy':
Burp.
really fun episode, kudos for even trying to complete this monster
13:31 This is a beautiful sight right here.
Congrats, I guess that's my new Doom Iceberg from now on 😂
The dean is playing a NoReason level this can’t be real! This is going to be legendary I can already tell.
34:44 i assumed the mapname was a reference to the operation ivy song (healthy body sick mind), but maybe it's just a saying (tho i presume the pun counter stopped at this point and of course op ivy is much less well known than u2 lol)
