  • On the occasion of Phule jayanti, EPW organised a webinar to explore the various streams of critique that form the reservoir of anti-caste thought in India. Following Ambedkar's statement that Phule, Kabir, and the Buddha were his three gurus or teachers, the webinar focused on the intellectual bridges between various emancipatory personalities who have historically contributed towards keeping a critical and heterodox tradition of thought alive in India. Such figures and ideas sometimes need to be rescued from the erasure of our histories and the amnesia of our memories, and towards such a goal, this webinar tries to imagine alternative ways of remembering or commemorating the tradition of critical thought in India, which is exemplified by the life and work of Phule and Ambedkar in modern India.
