  • Fishing the North Fork of the Kern River with our Keiryu rods. The long reach and fast action rods deliver excellent natural drifts that produce results when paired with Euro style rigs and Dry flies. We key in on what makes a good fishing spot for our Euro style fishing. We illustrate successful rigs and flies from our 2 nymph Euro rigs that got us deep quickly and delivered results.

    A few weeks ago, I fished a few hundred yards below the spot where this video starts. Starting at 8:30 am, I spent 3-1/2 hrs with a fly rod (hopper and nymph), getting maybe two grabs, no hookups and no fish. At noon (with sun high and temp at 95 degrees), I switched to Keiryu and fished the same stretch and holes as before. In one hour, had three grabs, all three resulting in hookups, and all three fish brought to net. Keiryu is a winning strategy.

      Thank you for sharing!! I believe Keiryu gave you better drifts which was the critical difference.😀

    Nice video David. Great water for fishing, and the scenery is beautiful. I have the T100, TN Provo and Nissan Kocho 540. They all work great with my unique technique and rig. Keiryu style fishing is awesome.

    The river I fish on has not only trout, but Steelhead, Coho and Chinook in the 10 plus range, what would be the best rod to have if I'm targeting trout and end up hooking a much larger fish?

      Hi Todd. It would be the TN Provo, although 10 plus would be a real test. We recommend 4X tippet (6-7 lbs) for it, although many use 3X.

    Why do you river guys carry footlong nets ❓I don't get it

    • @bosniakedisniksic
      @bosniakedisniksic Рік тому

      Easier to carry. Usually we're walking up or down creek/river all day through brush and uneven terrain. A smaller net is ligher and gets caught up in things less.

    What size nymph did you fish?

    • @KeiryuRodCo
      @KeiryuRodCo  2 роки тому +1

      Size 16-18 for the top nymph. Size 10 for bottom. I’ll often start with size 12 on the bottom but increase size if I don’t think I’m getting deep enough, fast enough (which I did here). Note, conventional wisdom says hook size/3 = tippet size. I often stretch this rule as I’m biased to getting deep. With our T100 or the 620, I’ve never had an issue with 5x tippet handling size 10.

      @@KeiryuRodCo sounds awesome. Your website is a wealth of knowledge of keiryu. It’s kind of hard to find information on how to fish it right in English

      Do you add splitshot with your nymphs? Or do you only add splitshot if you’re fishing with bait, like salmon eggs or worms?

      @@vladd5291 Thank you. We are constanlty learing and applying new knowledge, especially has how it relates to Keiryu fishing here in the US.

      @@vladd5291 I rarely add splitshot to nymphs but I have in a few situations where the water was deep with strong current. I see no issues with using splitshot when you need to, otherwise you are going to miss the strike zone, so why not? With the bait rigs, like the Owner Yarn Marker rig I definitely recommend splitshot. 1 about 8" from hook or 2 about 12" hook.
