Cody sent me. I respect that TDK series has your favorite movies of all Batman films. They all need eachother for your list to make sense. I got The Batman #1, and hopefully this trilogy will be my new favorite. there's still no better batman scene than BVS Warehouse IMO.

I prefer Batman to Batman Returns, after recently watching them both there isn't much in it. I'm sorry Michelle Pfeiffer.
After a second viewing today I'd say I think I prefer The Batman to Batman Begins as well as Dark Knight Rises. Only time will tell if it will overtake Dark Knight. The sooner Matt Reeves gets another out the better, as you said that whole Gotham world he's created is superb.
I prefer my Batman movies more grounded so BVS and Justice League are lower for me.
My knickers are officially in a twist Lomax.
I will say that without Christopher Nolan's trilogy I pretty much wouldn't be watching any comic book movies (except Dredd).

    • @AgesofFilm
      @AgesofFilm 9 місяців тому

@BryanLomax upon 1 watch I really liked it... probably would throw it in between Rises and BvS.... but I haven't really had the urge to see it again.... so maybe it would drop to somewhere between 89 and Returns.
Btw, it's crazy to hear you talk about the Novel adaptation of Returns... I still have mine from years ago, but never met anyone else who had a copy lol.
Have you read the Batman 89 novel? If so what were you're thoughts? I just got the full novel in recently

    • @AgesofFilm
      @AgesofFilm 9 місяців тому +1

@BryanLomax 89 was the first Batman movie I ever saw, even before 66... I still really like it, but there are problems that have risen for me with that one that keep it lower. Returns is just too messy and too packed with multiple storylines that don't mix well for me. A descent film, nothing more.... I will always have a lobe for Keaten as Batman tho.

I have been avoiding The Batman as I don't like the idea of trying to make a scary or intimidating Riddler. I prefer Jim Carrey's portrail of the character because I know he can be a threat in the comics depending on how he is written, but neither the look or name of the character makes me inherently think scary or Intimidating. I always saw him as a joke and I am so tired of seeing villains that have been done. Maybe I would give the film a chance if someone can give me I guess light spoilers & just tell me if they are going to have any comedic angle to him or if he is just serious version of the character through and through

    • @BryanLomax
      @BryanLomax  2 роки тому

He's serious. But he's been that way many times in the comic books. Dark Knight Dark City, from the early 90's, is one of the most twisted Batman tales I've ever read and that was a Riddler story.

Well Bryan, I just saw The Batman on the HBO Max streaming service two days ago. I hated it, so I am glad I didn't see it in the theaters because I would have felt better flushing that money down a toilet. I am sure I will get a lot of hate for saying that from people that loved it, nevertheless if I were ranking the films I would put it dead last cause it bored me for most of the run time. I liked Penguin, Falcon, & the relationship between Batman & Gordon was solid for me. Otherwise I felt it sucked, & the Penguin & Falcon weren't given anywhere near enough screen time for me. I am sure there will be a sequel to this film, but I don't look forward to it. I also don't care if they called him the Riddler as his personality was far more in line to me with Ra's Al Ghul. As far as I am concerned that was Riddler by name only, & therefore will never refer to him as such

    For my taste:
    1. Batman Returns - Not (just) nostalgia. I love the way the villains mirror Bruce - The Penguin as the wounded orphan Bruce Wayne, Max Schreck as the billionaire playboy Bruce Wayne, and Catwoman as the masked vigilante Batman. There's depth there.
    2. The Dark Knight

12: Batman and Robin 1/10 (shite)
11: Batman vs superman 5/10 (good moments but overall nothing very memorable about it other than the warehouse fight)
10: Batman the movie 5/10 (a product of the time definitely and just plain camp)
09: Batman forever 7/10 (Jim Carrey makes this movie everything else is just fine)
08: Batman returns 7/10 (interesting for sure and once again the villains carry this movie)
07: Batman 89 8/10 (this is Batman plain and simple Keaton made it his own and jack nickleson is a great joker)
06: the dark knight rises 9/10 (logical fallacies aside and talia, this is a near perfect conclusion the one of the best trilogies ever and bane was an absolute badass)
05: the Lego Batman movie 9/10 (out of all the movies featuring Batman this is definitely the funniest one this was also the first Batman film I saw in a cinema so that also gives it an edge)
04: Batman begins 9/10 (as far as origin films go this one is unmatched by any other, the way some of the action scenes are filmed could’ve been better but everything else is damn good)
03: Batman mask of the phantasm 10/10 (out of all the films I’ve listed this feels the most Batmany, from start to finish it’s dark it’s gothic it’s Batman and the phantasm is an underrated villain that I’m surprised hasn’t been used more in other Batman media)
02: the dark knight 10/10 (everything about this movie that can be said has been said it’s perfect and you don’t need me to you that, the one thing I could possibly knock this movie and the rest of trilogy for is Christian bales Batman voice in this movie especially he sounds like he’s contacted every lung related disease at once)
01: the Batman 10/10 (I’ve only seen it once and I’m seeing it again in a few days but holy shit, there is nothing I would change about this movie, everything clicks together perfectly and there is not a wasted second, absolute peak)

Well... since I've seen The Batman three times now and am still just as enthralled by it, I can safely say it's my favorite. I'm going to see it again this weekend. It doesn't feel like 3 hrs at all to me and I've never watched a movie before where I could feel my heart actually racing the entire time. I love that they did something different with Bruce and that'll we'll get to see him learn how to be well Bruce. Even though he thinks there is no value in it right now.
The Dark Knight would be my number 2 but only because of Heaths, RIP, portrayal of the Joker (my favorite Joker so far but they are all so different so you can't really compare them!) I went back the other day to watch Nolans trilogy and had a hard time getting through it because Bales Batman voice gives me a sore throat just listening to it 😅 seriously I needed some tea with honey for my throat after that, lol.
BUT that being said, Batman Begins would still be my number 3 just because I enjoyed watching him become Batman from the training to setting up the Batcave (how does his equipment not have bat crap all over it? I'm just saying 😂). Hated that cowl though, it looked too closed off.

    1: The Dark Knight (10/10)
(A rollercoaster that never gets old, incredible performances all around that are, somewhat rightfully, overshadowed by Ledger.)
    2: The Batman (10/10)
(Give it a second viewing and it could take top spot. Pattinson is behind Conroy as my favourite Batman)
3: Mask of The Phantasm (10/10)
(It's the DCAU with a bigger budget and longer runtime. Of course it would be excellent.)
    4: Batman Begins (9/10)
(Really great film that I have a lot of love for. Cillian Murphy's Scarecrow is a scene stealer throughout the trilogy, wish there was more of him.)
    5: Batman 89 (9/10)
(It's got problems but this is just a classic for me. Until very recently, Keaton was my favourite live action Batman and I can't wait to see him back.)
6: The Dark Knight Rises (9/10)
(Always liked this film, especially on the last rewatch. Satisfying ending to the best CBM trilogy. Bale gives both his best performance as Bruce and his worst performance as Batman imo.)
    7: Batman Returns (8/10)
(Burton given free reign, can't help but love it. Pfieffer's sublime as Catwoman despite the deviations from the comics, I'm right there with you on the crush on her Bryan.)
    8: Snyder's Justice League (7/10)
(Suprised that I enjoyed this when I watched it. Not sure if I'll ever watch it again though.)
    9: Batman V Superman (7/10)
(Very flawed, fatally in some areas. I think the good just about outweighs the bad though.)
    10: Batman Forever (6/10)
(Overhated. More of a focus on Bruce as a character than the Burton films have, wish the deleted scenes were in the final film.)
    11: Batman 66 (6/10)
(Decent for what it is. Liked it a lot as a kid.)
    12: Batman & Robin (3/10)
(Eh, maybe I can have fun with it on a good day.)
    13: Justice League (2/10)
(I don't hate this film but aside from maybe two scenes, I have no warmth towards it.
If anyone's wondering, those two scenes are the Save One scene and the Flash/Superman race.)

    My top 5:
    1. The Dark Knight- I’m sorry I am one of those people. It’s is the best, it’s a masterpiece it’s a top ten movie of all time.
    2. Batman Begins- This and the Batman were back and forth for me but I’ve had more time with this one and it was a great way to bring Batman back to the big screen.
    3. The Batman- This one definitely could move up in more time. It has a lot of good things going for it. Definitely the best cinematography of them all, Gotham is dark and gothic, just the way it should be. One thing about it though and I am in the minority on this, as much as I appreciate a slow burn movie I think it might’ve overstayed it’s welcome just a tad. Like I said time will tell where it’ll stand.
    4. Batman ‘89- Let’s face it without this you wouldn’t have anything in this list. Still my favorite Batman besides Kevin Conroy and Jack Nicholson is having the time of his life in this also my favorite bat mobile. It does suffer due to things being dated like the prince soundtrack, not that it’s bad but it’s an unusual choice.
    5. The Dark Knight Rises- A good but not great end to the Nolanverse. Could’ve been better but it’s still better than a lot of movies out there.

Here is my Batman movie ranking. Note that I only rank the theatrically released films and if I ranked all the animated ones they will probably dominate this list...
Starting with the two movies I’ll probably will not rewatch ever again.
    14. Justice League(2017). This movie is so bad in my eyes that it’s crazy. I hated Batman but specially hated Flash and Stephenwolf! There’s is nothing I like about the movie!
    13. Batman(1966). I understand that it is an historical movie but I really can’t enjoy it today because it’s really dated for me. However, I do like the chemistry between villains.
All the movies from now on I would rewatch in the future for different reasons...
    12. Batman And Robin. This is a movie I can still enjoy for how ridiculous it is. I always love when I watch this movie and see all those ice puns and how slutty Poison Ivy is. However, I still consider it an awful movie.
    11. The Dark Knight Rises. I really don’t like most of this movie. Its got beautiful cinematography but the story is lacking at best. Bane wasn’t great and Thalia is the worst live action Batman villain...
also, Batman was barley even in it.
Now for the movies I really like.
    10. The Lego Batman Movie. It was different but kinda nice. I really didn’t liked Batgirl in this one. The villains from other franchises were a nice touch.
    9. Batman Forever. I may have a soft spot for it but I kind of like it. Val is one of my favourite actors and I loved his Bruce Wayne parts, his Batman not as much but still great if you could get rid of those Bat nips. Robin was great. The Riddler was a little bit much but at least the story of a personal grudge towards the hero was original at the time. I can’t defend the Wacky Two Face or the horny Chase Meridian.
    8. Batman. For me its a Joker movie and Jack Nicolson was so great. Michael Keaton is very solid as both Bruce Wayne and as Batman. I like the Batmobile and BatPlane. Also a very important movie with an amazing score. But it could be really boring at parts. Also Vicky Vale feels like a low budget Lois Lane.
    7. The Dark Knight. The cast is great and the opening sequence is amazing!!! Heath Ledger was great in the role. Aaron Ackheart was Solid as Harvey but is Two Face got wasted as a one time crook that got manipulated by a better villain so I actually really dislike this version of the character. Christian Bale was less better than he was previously and I didn’t liked the way he decided to leave things all. A real Batman would have taken the fall and still remained Batman despite having the cops on his tale. Also a bit overrated for me.
From here on are the Batman movies that I genuinely love!!!
    6. Batman Begins. The best of the Nolan trilogy in my eyes! Great cast. Bale is great here! The villains are awesome and I also like all the side characters(including Kate Holmes). If the final fight between Batman and Ras׳ wouldn’t felt so short and weak this movie would probably be in my top 3.
    5. Batman V Superman: The Dawn Of Justice(The Ultimate Edition). This movie has way more flaws than the Nolan films but it is an epic crossover I’ve been waiting for so many years. Even though his actions are suited and not that lacking, Lex Luther is awful and so annoying in this film! I really don’t care for how stupid and useless Lois is in this one... the rest of the movie is great. For me Gal is great as Wonder Woman and Henry is the best Superman ever. As for the Batman aspects: I think Ben Aflleck is the best in finding the balance between Bruce Wayne and Batman. I also love how badass he is! Jeremy Irons is the best Alfred in my eyes. The fight between Batman and Superman is epic, the final fight against Doomsday is good and the wear house sequence is the best Batman action scene ever!!
    4. Batman Returns. It is my third favourite Christmas films(after Die Hard and Home Alone). I love it’s Gothic vibes. The score is amazing! I also love the animalistic nature of the film and the sub massage that humans are worst than animals Via Max Shriek and Penguin’s parents. Keaton is really solid as Bruce and Batman! Penguin is iconic and Catwoman is legendary! Max Shriek was great opposite of Bruce Wayne. I Also loved the circus people and to date they are my favourite comic book movie powerless goons. I like the Batboat and the Yelloy bird boat that Penguin uses. Yeah I know it’s considered a weird movie but I like this kind of weirdness.
    3. The Batman. I loved this movie! The detective aspect was amazing! Cinematography was amazing! The fights were good even though the armor was little to capable for this realistic version of the character in my eyes. I didn’t love the new Batmobile but the car chase scene was so amazing! Robert was great as Batman and I didn’t care for the absence of the Bruce part of the character. Zoe was great as Catwoman and I liked how they made her realistic. Alfred was good but lacked screen time. Gordon was great as well. I liked The Riddler and his plan but didn’t liked the custom and kind of split about his behaviour after getting caught. The Penguin is great and would love to see more, great job Collin. For me the standout was John Turturro as Carmine Falcon, wow! A great film!
    2. Batman: The Mask Of Phantasm. A great movie that also flash out Bruce’s past. I love everything about it from Batman being framed and having to face the GCPD to the new awesome one time villain of Phantasm! Such a cool design. The detective aspect of the story is amazing. The romantic story is great. Usually I don’t like it when Joker is a surprise villain in a film, game or show but here he is just amazing and not too much! Just perfect! Voices of Mark and Kevin will never get enough praises!
    1. Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Batman is the main character so I consider this to be a Batman film! This is MY Lord Of The Rings! The score and cinematography are great! Before I’ll get to Batman I’ll just say that this movie did justice to all the Justice League members, Silas Stone, Gordon and Alfred. It even made Joker great and Lex less bad. Stephenwolf is great as a villain and Darkside as great as the looming threat! I loved The Nightcrawler and all of the cars and gadgets! This movie is so epic to me and Batman is definitely the best part because he is so different than what I used to by being so optimistic, using guns(really good at them as well lol) and threatening to Murder Joker(OMG I love this scene so much!). This is my favourite Comic Book movie in recent memory and I’ve watched it 6 which amounts to 24 hours!

Josstice League is objectively better than Wonder Woman in every way and I would say was the best Super Hero movie of the year it was released (Ragnarok 2nd, Logan 3rd). While yes the Snyder Cut improves on it in every possible way, my guess is your rating change is more due to you caving to popular opinion than any of the issues in the film (of which there are plenty).
You should have stuck to your guns with the more correct opinion. Rarher than following the heard in an opinion not based in reality.
Though totally agree Dark Knight is the best. Takes the Killing Joke and makes it better. Also the only Super Hero film ever made that was favourably compared to the Godfather on release. And for me it is the best film ever made regardless of genre 🤷‍♂️

    • @BryanLomax
      @BryanLomax  2 роки тому

Yeah... no! I don't "cave" to anybody's opinion. But I am always willing to listen to reason. Fact is, Josstice League gets worse and worse the more I watch it. And you saying it's better than Wonder Woman is laughable to me!

    • @JeremiahEcks777

But you can't always separate art from the artist. Like, good example for me is Gary Glitter music. I used to love listening to Gary Glitter with my Dad. Then he was ousted as a... well... not nice man, and not particularly sorry for it either... and now I just can't listen to the music. His truly sinister behaviour has made it awkward.
I feel the same about a wrestler I used to watch called Chris Benoit. He killed his wife and son and then committed suicide to escape justice. I feel awkward now going back to see his matches because all I can think is, he's a murderer. Again, it makes it awkward.
So with the allegations of Joss Whedon, it does make going back to reviewing some of his old back catalogue difficult. I feel it's distant enough to do it, unlike my examples, but it is harder than it was.
Additionally, whilst I haven't seen it, one thing I've heard almost universally from friends who saw Josstice League all said at the time that the movie just felt disconnected. It felt like two directors filming two movies. Weird that. And one of the reasons I never saw it was because I saw the *awful* CGI on Steppenwolf. For crying out loud, his mouth isn't even synchronised. Even bad CGI manages that!
People are entitled to change their mind, and it doesn't have to be caving. I would have once told you that Tobey Maguire was the perfect Spidey and Spider-Man 1 the best super hero movie ever. Now it wouldn't make my top ten, including movies released before it.

@@BryanLomax which again illustrates the indoctrination, saying it is worse than Wonder Woman should be the red flag for you. You loved it, then you watched it again and still loved it. Then you listened to others and as you watched it again you caved to group think.
Let's look at the common criticisms of Josstice League:
Bad CGI villain? Do I even need to point out how much worse Ares is on every level than Steppenwolf?
Uneven tone? Like having a no mans land scene and a bunch of comedy coming from racist stereotypes...
Not everyone gets their moment? Well everyone atleast gets some sort of arc. Aquaman learns to work with others, Flash learns to be a hero, Cyborg learns to accept himself (granted the arcs in Snyder Cut are better). What about WW? They have an arc about shell shock that they literally drop act 3 and that's the only one of the team that even starts an arc...
But isn't JL just a copy of Avengers Assemble. Well other than it being a team up movie, no, not really. There's no mind control in JL and no resurections in AA. There is an intra team fight, but it is all against Supes, where Hawkeye is part of an infiltrating team and Hulk just has a moment of madness and only interacts with 2 other team members. Where WW is practically a shot for shot remake of First Avenger even down to the self sacrific on the bomb plane in the finale (and the support team of 1 dimensional characters that never get to do anything or an arc). With the scientist secondary villain and our main villain hiding in plane sight until he reveals he has the same powers as our hero.
Ah but Wonder Woman has that No Mans Land scene you say? Well given in the movie before we see her taking punches from Doomsday, who can hurt Supes, the bullets on that field should be no threat to her. Before we even talk about her super speed so she shouldn't have been hit. Compare with the high moment in JL. Flash finding out how fast Supes is. A moment (that I subjectively enjoy more) but that objectively makes sense of what we have already seen rather than being incongruent. You watching it think yeah he's going into super speed but Superman should be basically as fast, then Supes' eyes move...
No reasonable person could watch Wonder Woman and Josstice League and claim that WW is better. Only indoctrination can cause you to make such a claim. Unless you have huge affinity for a particular part of the WW setting (say you're a huge WW1 fan or you're a woman and thus identify with a female lead film more). But even then you should be able to say yes JL is better but I enjoy WW more.
Like Jaws is a better film than Deep Blue Sea, but I just enjoy DBS more and find it more fun to watch.

@@JeremiahEcks777 yeah I can see that art vs artist part of not liking Josstice League. Where I can still enjoy Buffy and Angel for instance not to mention Avengers Assemble (which never seems to get this criticism only JL does).
Have you see Wonder Woman? The CGI on Ares is ten times worse than Steppenwolf. Again that criticism is rarely leveled to the same extent despite it being worse for WW...
People are entitled to change their opinion. But when someone has an opinion that lines up with reality, and suddenly starts bleating the same talking points that are popular and don't match reality, it is tough to conclude the cause is anything other than caving/indoctrination.
I mean the guy tried to claim it was laughable to him that someone would say the objectively worse Wonder Woman was a worse film... That is enough to show that this isn't a natural shift in opinion over time.

Now, did I change my opinion based on well reasoned arguments and multiple viewings of the film? Yeah, of course I did. But you don't seem to be able to handle that concept so you use a word like "cave", that has negative connotations, in order to prop up your own opinion and downgrade someone elses. So, you've never changed your mind have you not? Never looked at something one way and then, upon careful consideration, re-evaluated your opinion? If not, then you are either lying or you have the distinct inability for personal growth, or your just arrogant. First time I saw The Guest I thought it was a terrible film. Then I watched it with my brother. I bought it for him for his birthday because, even though I didn't like it, I thought he might. I LOVED it on second viewing. V for Vendetta took 3 viewings until it registered as an absolute classic for me. Joker is, of course, the catalyst that drives everything but it's arguable that it's more Harvey's film than Jokers.
In the sense of the story is about him falling and dying and leaving a mess in the aftermath. It's about Joker breaking Harvey, if he can't break anybody else. Harvey giving himself up as Batman and losing Rachel.
I've always seen it as Harvey's movie, with Bruce and Gordon being on the peripheral of the chaos. OFC the Joker is the chaos cause but every villain is the cause of the chaos, the protagonist. I don't think this story is about the Joker himself as a character. I think it's about one man having a REALLY bad day...

I'm just not into the Nolan trilogy.
    My top 5
    1. The Batman 2022, I usually don't put a new movie on the top of my list but this movie was everything I've been wanting to see in a live action Batman movie.
    2. Batman 89, I still think it has some great things about it and it met be the most groundbreaking comic book movie outside of Donnor's superman.
    3. Batman Returns is a Great follow up and Michelle is still the best Catwoman.
    4. JL SC, What an improvement and a far better movie compared to the TC.
    5. Batman Forever is fun and I enjoyed Val as Bruce/Batman.

To quote Count Dooku... "I've been looking forward to this." 😎
I feel for you on Josstice League. You've changed your mind, I'm surprised anybody faults anybody else for that. And at the end of the day it is hard to separate art from the artist.
For mine, including the movies you ranked, and two I'm surprised you didn't include!:
XX) The Batman (I can't rank this as I haven't seen it yet. Looks cool though)
XX) Josstice League (I'll be honest. I haven't seen it and won't ever will. When I've seen clips of Steppenwolf from it, I feel my wish to stay away from it are justified)
    12) Batman '66 (I love the show but the movie was just too much - same opinion as you, pretty much)
    11) Batman Forever (I agree that Kilmer is playing it straight whereas it's not THAT sort of movie. Which is why it doesn't work for me. Tonal disconnect. I'm not a fan. I also don't rate Val Kilmer as Batman)
    10) Dawn of Justice (The director's cut is better but it's not great still for me. It's fine. It's not bad. The casting, except Lex, is perfect. I love Batfleck in terms of casting and Caville has won me over in past few years. The effects are great. Love pretty much any Batman fight scene. But the way they implement Lex really annoys me, the identity reveal of Bruce to Lex annoys me, the dream sequences were obtrusive, not interesting, and too much JLA world building at cost of the movie itself)
    09) Batman & Robin (no mistake - I like on rules of 'so bad it's good')
    08) Mask of the Phantasm (I'm including it as it was in the cinema! It IS a definitive Batman story but perhaps overfamiliarity with me has blunted it)
    07) Dark Knight Rises (underrated movie marred by a flat Miranda Tate reveal and the generally awfully directed dispensation of Bane. But it is the Definitive Bane, amazing Catwoman, and I agree. It is outstanding. It just has niggles for me here and there but it's still four Star at *least*)
    06) Snyder Cut (it's pretty good! I have to say I enjoyed it but it really needs to be watched as a mini series, not a single movie. But fortunately they split it so we can do that! Yeah, I really enjoyed it, and I found it more fun than the increasing Marvel 'lol jokes' monotony)
    05) Batman Begins (almost flawless)
    04) Batman Returns (I think I also had that adaptation! Was it the one with Batman running through the snow on the cover with the Batmobile in the background? Anyway I think it's a great Tim Burton movie, not necessarily a great Batman movie, but I think it's really great anyway. Really underrated. Really really underrated. I'm not the biggest fan of this Penguin but Shreck and Catwoman are just amazing)
    03) Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker (If I'm including Phantasm I'm including this! So dark, perhaps the darkest, but it is just definitive in many many ways. I want it on Blu Ray! 😡 )
    02) Batman '89 (I just love every single second, even Party Mah-han! I can't separate nostalgia from true quality, I'll grant you, but I love it anyway)
    01) The Dark Knight (can it be anything else? Everybody else has said plenty elsewhere of why)

The reason I didn't include Phantasm is that I would also have had to include Return of the Caped Crusaders and The Killing Joke, both of which had theatrical screenings. So I stuck to live action. Otherwise Phantasm would be number 5 on my list.

@@BryanLomax Yes! That's exactly what we all felt, me and my other 'comic book fan' mates. One of them is a BIG Oracle fan - like, it's her favourite character - and she found the first half of Killing Joke frustrating.

@@BryanLomax I think this proves something you said in your Spider-Man video. The Tobey Maguire movies are, objectively, OK movies but not great consistently, but people are beholden to them because of age, the fact they were their first foray into Marvel / Spidey etc. For some, Tobey IS Spidey... despite not actually doing anything Spidey is known for, like quips!
So my ratings for Batman movies are definitely influenced by age, nostalgia, what I was introduced to etc. If I'm being really coldly academic, I wonder if I can say - realistically - that Batman '89 is genuinely a better movie than say Batman Returns. The truth is Batman Returns is more consistent in tone, as you say, it's a fairy tale. Batman '89, is it based on the Dark Knight Returns, is it a gangster pic, is it a popcorner with a Prince soundtrack, or is it a Tim Burton movie roaring silently through a leaf strewn forest? But one thing I'm not sure it is, is as consistent and complete as Returns.
And yet. I'll always say '89 is better. Because of how it makes me feel, to be truthful!
But that's art. We can try be subjective but it's always an uphill struggle.
But like one of my mates legit thinks Batman & Robin is the best Batman movie. He's just wrong. 🤭
But then again, if he laughs through it and has a great time, why would I disagree with him? All a review really is is someone's opinion you want to compare with to see how much you agree and sometimes use it to gauge whether you want to commit time to an activity. They do matter. And I love them. But I don't want to ever tell someone they're wrong. Even when I disagree.

    1. The Dark Knight Rises
    2. The Dark Knight
    3. Batman Begins
    4. Snyder's Cut
    5. Batman 2022
The Dark Knight trilogy is the perfect embodiment of what the perfect Batman is to me and I love the conclusion of the story. It's the golden standard for most of Batman fans.
Snyder's Cut is amazing as well, it is a grand experience and adds so much much more to BvS and Man of Steel (which I love too).
Batman 2022, in my opinion, is overrated. After all the goofy and 0-stakes Marvel stuff, as well as the failed Birds of Prey and other DC experiments, people are just hungry for the good old nitty-gritty Batman and Batman 2022 is just filling that void. In reality, though, Batman 2022 only has Batman, there is no Bruce Wayne, Batman is not as great of a symbol as in the Dark Knight and the last part of the movie feels unnecessary. Every single member of the cast is a downgrade from the Dark Knight trilogy in terms of both performance and casting choice. 0 chemistry with Catwoman and the movie feels way too long. It just keeps dragging on and on and on. Hopefully the next two instalments in the trilogy will improve.

@@BryanLomax aye, it's alright, tastes can differ. Tbh, I might have come across as more negative than I wanted to in regard to Batman 2022. The movie is still good and way better than anything else besides the Dark Knight Trilogy and Snyder's Cut (to me). Gotham's portrayal is amazing, I also love the grim, dark and hopeless vibe, the noir setting is interesting and the fact that Batman is actually doing detective stuff is certainly welcome.
