I was roughly 7 or 8 when I last played the game but still remember my Dad taking photos of our scores and posting off with an application to join the ‘megamaniac’s club’.
Just felt a major wave of nostalgia watching this. Loved this game when I was a kid. It, along with River Raid, were probably my two favourite Atari games.
Same here, Megamania, River Raid, 1942 and Cosmic Arc were my favorites. When out and about though, my Ex and I killed it on Asteroids. We once played at a table console for several hours. The owner of the restaurant said we put so much money into the machine, we bought it for him. LOL
I liked river raid more than this one. I never got very good at any of them. I didn't have an Atari. I would just play my friend's. 3 of my friends had those games. 2 had atari and the other had eith a colecovision or sega. Can't remember which.
I'd totally forgotten about this game. I don't think I owned it. Probably borrowed it from a friend. But I remember it being fun. Activision really did a great job back in the day.
Awesome! I remember playing this game as well as spider fighter, demons to diamonds, asteroids, space invaders, human cannonball and lets not forget combat! I still play these games through the xbox live market place. Next or current gen eat your heart out!
Loved it! My fav on 2600 of all time. I was so disappointed when after many many days and weeks of playing, when I finally thought I'd break 1,000,000 the game simply froze at 999,999 :( Anyway, loved it!!
That's the way Activision ran their "Win Screens". Same thing happens when you collect all the treasure on Pitfall! Furthest I made it was the fourth wave, so that's much better than me LOL
Same here lol!! I'm glad you mentioned it coz I was never sure if the gane just broke. I'll sleep better now after all these years in the know that I actually completed it🤣😂😂😂😂
My dad was the only person in my family to be able to beat every level. He has no idea how inspiring it was seeing him do it so easily and for me to fail every time. He hates me for playing games now.
I've beat it many times. If you play it enough you zip through the level without missing a beat. Then the levels get a little bit harder, but the trick is to not miss a beat. So you know what happens when you beat it?
Loved this game. There was nothing like getting into a groove and clearing several screens in a row without missing (especially the spinning diamonds). Another non-Activision favorite was “Demon Attack”. It was the same, wave after wave of alien invaders-type game but the graphics and sound effects were much better.
My partners use to come over my house after school to play this joint. I use to let them go first. When it was my turn. It was lights out. I could get 100,000 with one man. My moms couldn't stand this noise all night long. This joint and the old Pac Man and Pit Fall Harry. Yes sir. Atari 2600. Don't forget about the football joint. Head to Head Colleco! Them was the good old days. Now I'm still killing them in all the Maddens. From the first joint to Madden 22.
Mummy bought this game ex gracia for me and it became one of my favourite games even though the steam irons always got the better of me. I soon found that I had to shoot one of them in EACH COLUMN before they got down too far. I loved it so much that one day, when I was using Corel Paint and I'd accidentally made the whole background black, I smirked, said "Okay" and made a grey rectangle that spanned the entire bottom of the, well, electronic easel and then made a cerise triangle, copied it and made about ten more. I then flipped it and made another ten and I had the bowties from the game. I then made two very thin blue rectangles and that was the legs of the shooter, another rectangle for the body and a rotated square for the head. I then made a very narrow cerise rectangle for the bullet. I then endeavoured to make the spare ships and the score through my own efforts, but after five minutes realized I had no option but to copy from the internet. When I'd done that, I loved it so much I decided to make up some enemies, for instance I had "bacteria" and then I had pills, which didn't drop bombs, instead I had one of them shown to be dumping "powder" (they didn't exist in the game, at least not in the version I played) This is certainly one game that if you could nominate souped-up versions you'd like on PC or Ipad I'd certainly nominate it. I feel that way about most of the Atari games I had which would make most of the enemies go "Shit!" and/or "I'm too old for dis sort of ding"
I can't remember what the amount was, but the manual said to take a pic if your score was above a certain amount, which I beat and sent the score in. Also, this was actually the first time I ever said the "F" word and my parents heard me and scolded me.
My USMC father and I were so good at this game- we would play with the joysticks upside down- didnt hit me until today (me age 50) he was an air traffic controller--lmao- no wonder he was so good- I am off to buy an atari- yall in trouble when they turn the internet off--lol
My Ex and I were in the zone when we played this game too. But we turned the sound off on the TV and played it to Mike Oldfield's Platinum album. Each level had a designated song. Like we wouldn't even call the songs by their names, they were the tires song, iron song, bowties song etc. We'd have little tournaments to see who could roll the score faster and how many times. Fun times! I wish I still had an Atari, coz now I want to play Megamania.
My girlfriend at the time now my ex-wife would brag all day long about how great she was in this game. One day we cracked open the attic door and dragged out the 2600 and played. She whipped my butt the first two games. The 3rd and ever since she has never beat me. She refused to play me after that...haha.
Stupid Boring game all you do is shoot at things and you can die even if you don't get hit when you run out of energy but the energy is not like a shield where you can get hit and survive if you have some energy left. Not much different then all the other tons of shooting games on atari. I remember the TV Ad, it was annoying, some guy with sun glasses was in the game and it played a real annoying top 40 sound song saying Megamania Megamania making the game seem like it was something totally awesome and different.
Best game ever. The happiest memory of my childhood.
Same. My stepdad broke so many controllers throwing them over and over. I'm 53 now, such a core memory. Lol
I was roughly 7 or 8 when I last played the game but still remember my Dad taking photos of our scores and posting off with an application to join the ‘megamaniac’s club’.
I played this game ad nauseum when I was a kid. I have not seen or heard it since. Instantly transported back.
I was OBSESSED with this game!
The best video game in history!
Classic! One of my favorite games on Atari 2600!

Yes River Raid, Megamania, PAC-Man , Pitfall, Keystone Kapers, ET, and Defender oh Spider Fighter
Me too!

I used to play this game when I was a kid at Children's Playground in Luneta.
This is my favorite 2600 game - very dreamlike atmosphere. It's Space Invaders but harder.
Awesome! I remember playing this game as well as spider fighter, demons to diamonds, asteroids, space invaders, human cannonball and lets not forget combat! I still play these games through the xbox live market place. Next or current gen eat your heart out!
God does this take me back to more simple times of the Best childhood ever! I still have this game.
I love Megamania is my number 1 Activision Atari 2600 Game of All-Time is like Astro Blaster Version
This was my FAVORITE Atari game. I feel like I'm 6 years old again watching this.
My nostalgia from 1988
Loved it! My fav on 2600 of all time. I was so disappointed when after many many days and weeks of playing, when I finally thought I'd break 1,000,000 the game simply froze at 999,999 :(

My highest score was 185,120. That was back in the mid 80's.
Same here lol!! I'm glad you mentioned it coz I was never sure if the gane just broke. I'll sleep better now after all these years in the know that I actually completed it🤣😂😂😂😂
Yep, Same here!!!
One of my all time favorite 2600 games.

@@andybilakshow260 Brother I posted this 7 years ago
@@themeek9072 Did You beat it 7 years ago?
It didn't look like it🤣
I beat it 40+ years ago 😎
@@andybilakshow260 I was reminiscing about back in the 80s when I was a small child... The game is incredibly simple. Good for you on beating it.
Childhood memories! My sister and I would play hours at a time! First stage was cheese burgers! Second stage was fries! And so on
We called them piza huts, fences, irons etc
Gross cline sent me here
My favorite game in the 80s. Successfully breached 999,999 and had it go back to start at 0 again
My favorite game ever!

For some reason, because of the different colors the enemies have, i always saw them as food when i was a kid lol. Cookies, pancakes, walnuts. xD
What a fun memory

Best game of its genre EVER!
One of the earliest games I can remember playing back in the late 80s/early 90s, alongside Pitfall
I loved this game...even my parents use to play this one...
This was the only game my mother demanded I fire up when I brought my 7800 over to her house. LOL

Funny. I remember waking up for kindergarten and my mom would be playing this.

One of my mom and I's favorite games to compete with one another on. 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘✌️

I played this on my parents' Atari before. My strategy - hold down the fire button. It worked surprisingly well.

I beat this game back in the 80s, It stops a 999,999. and locks up!!!!!
You have the firing set on "Expert" level. Set to "Novice", it will fire faster.
I have been searching for an Atari 2600 and Megamania. If anyone at all knows where I can get on please let me know!
Ebay and Amazon have listings for both.
Wait...This isn't the Death Battle track. It's an assault to the ears
I remember my mom kicked some serious ass in this game.

Back in the days I though that the enemies in that game were pieces of bread.
