That’s only because Exodus Honey was used on Mac OS X Leopard and Snow Leopard.

Might be worth mentioning: Before you attempt to run OS X on any iMac G3, it needs firmware 4.1.9, otherwise simply booting from a 10.X install disk can brick your mac.

You're completely right, I actually ran into that problem and it had me stumped for several days! I didn't film any of those parts, and it would've taken awhile to explain, however it's definitely something to note when performing a similar install.

Tip for anyone who has gotten into this issue. When you boot and you get a black screen, do not freak out!!! Keep shutting off and rebooting and eventually you you WILL be able to see "something" on screen, although it might be all purple/blue/yellow etc... (in my case it was mostly a pink screen). From there you can apply your firmware update. I'm not sure if you can do it through OS X, in my case, I had to reinstall OS 9 and apply the firmware from there, then go back into X.

Install OSX 10.x on your iMac PPC G3/G4 then copy the 9.x CD System files to a folder on your 10.x install. Run 9.1 from control panel. This way you can have both 10.x and 9.x running on your iMac.
So you can run old 9x apps and games on your 10.x install.

I remember the upgrade from 10.3 to 10.4 being a big deal. Going to 10.5 was pretty cool too since the new reflective dock looked pretty slick back then but I was disappointed that they didn't come out with a new aqua wallpaper but rather a sort of universe theme which went on for a 3 releases I think.

Apple shipped physical versions of mac os up until mountain lion. But lion and mountain lion were on usb. There was actually some controversy for the people who wanted to upgrade from leopard to lion because initially it was an app store only release, which meant users would first have to upgrade to snow leopard.
Classic, running os9 on os x, only works on ppc. So it's something you can't do on intel computers, which is unfortunate
Impossible cat is a beta of snow leopard that works on ppc. which might be something interesting to do a vid about

Great Video. I'm a collector myself and have every version of OS X boxed and complete except for 10.0 Cheetah. Something i noticed that you actually have wrong is what you have as your 10.1 Puma box is actually the box for 10.0. The difference is small but noticeable. On 10.1 the apple logo is gray/silver whereas on the 10.0 box it is blue as shown in your video. Another key difference is that the 10.1 boxes always have a sticker on the front saying that it is the "new 10.1 version" Just thought you might like to know in case you didn't already. If in doubt you can always check the side panel where it displays the contents as it will tell you which disc should go in the box. Hope that helps

    • @iTekapple
      @iTekapple  6 років тому +3

Thanks for letting me know, I kinda thought something was up since the box label said "10.0" but when I bought it from eBay it was 10.1. I don't really know why it was sold that way but it was! As of right now I'm looking for OS 8 and 9 (which I already have) but have yet to find a listing w/ box and everything else.

No problem. I've got OS 9 complete in box. I'm trying to find 10.0 which just seems to be so expensive these days since it is rarer and hard to find. Would like to try and get OS 8 and some of the server OSes. Already have 10.4 server in the small box and 10.3 server boxed but would like to complete that set too so I would have all of the different variations boxed

Nice collection by the way, and all in good condition. I'm still missing a couple of the earlier versions (10.2 non-server, 10.0 non-Public Beta), and my Panther box is in poor shape. At least I did pick up the server version of 10.5 Leopard in good condition recently.

I’m a huge fan of the very early versions of OS X (even burned Mac OS X Public Beta/Kodiak on a disc some time ago) but I’ve got to admit that OS X wasn’t really all that great until OS X 10.3 Panther. Everything before 2003 seems so slow and buggy compared to OS 9 in my opinion. You also had way less features. The OS probably deserved a better start but eventually it all worked out. in mid 06 I was running a 32bit Windows XP build with dual core AMD Athlon 64 X2 with 4GB of DDR2 RAM, and the DELL Dimension 4600 with a 2.8Ghz Pentium 4 I salvaged from the local recycle drop off for free a couple months ago came in the base configuration of 512MB of DDR RAM, but mine had the factory 1GB of DDR RAM upgrade option which I've since bumped up to 4GB of DDR RAM, I'm using it to build a retro Windows 98se, and XP SP3 gaming build, so no if you were a gamer, or doing any kind of of serious work with your computer back then even 1GB of RAM was not considered overkill on the Windows/Linux PC side of things.

I can boot into either OS by holding option. Classic mode simply doesn't cut it for me :/ it's too bad they never improved upon it, or even have it as a courtesy (novelty) in modern OS X.. But that's ok, I enjoy having my G3 around. Gotta love all the classic apps. Oxyd doesn't play well on emus, and the DOS (pc versions) of it aren't that solid (something about the Mac versions are much smoother and play nice on a 100Hz CRT.)

I believe the original tray-loading G3's from 1998 did ship with OS 8, but this machine is a slot-loading summer 2000 so by that point OS 9 was used.

What was the point of updating from Mac OS 9 to 10.4, if you are not going to take the minimum amount of time to show something from each version of Mac OS X, if you are not going to use each version just a little bit?
In this video you only show us the boxes with their respective discs and the intro videos, nothing more. A complete waste of time, even if it's only 5:50 minutes 🤣
