Learning the flat water paddle up on to the foil. VLOG #48 BIG PROGRESS!!

- Опубліковано 8 лип 2024
- 11 weeks after the start of the this journey I have made some big improvements. Some really good training on technique led to a big leap in speed and control at week 8 and then nature came knocking with another round of COVID and a Hurricane called Beryl. Self destruction in the way of taking the end of my big toe off also made for an enforced break in training. So having managed to get a good progression and a really clean foil rise Ive had to go back slightly due to the 3 week break in training.
Still full of enthusiasm and anticipation that im so very close to the holy grail. - Спорт
Awesome progress thanks for sharing 👍
Thanks for watching! Hope it helps
Great effort, I was willing you up on the last couple of goes 🙏
@@richardclarke2213 all positive energy is gratefully received 👍
We are on the same boat…If I could suggest to recovery more time between sessions….Anyway You are an ispiration for all on this creazy journey…..👏👏👏
@@TheGalagona thanks.
I’m going to do a day on and day off. The day off will just be very light paddle work but with pure technique practice.
Every day is a gym day
@@heliboy999fly Hi mate I referred between same day session…Anyway today I fly off the water for 10 seconds thanks to you 😎
good on you man , wish you up up and away soon !
@@markdurbano3758 thank you. Progress is happening
Looks promising! Gong advises to place the mast at the back third for paddle ups. This is to prevent the foil from lifting to early which causes it to stall. I've put mine at "slot" no 5. Front foot in between the inserts of the front footstrap, back foot just in front of the insert of the back footstrap. Foot placement really matters. Depending on mast placement and board of course. Keep it up!

My board was one of the first so it didn’t have the V foot straps so I had to glass some in. They are not in the position that a newer one is.
I’m experimenting with mast position. And I do feel a stall condition regularly so I am moving it back more each session
Fantastic 😀👏👏👏👏👏 I need to keep practising and maybe try with front straps 👍 great work !
Work on paddle technique and the squat. Basics first
@@heliboy999fly thx dude:-)
You are nearly there - I really think you'd benefit from having a paddle buddy to push you over the line.
@@peter240365 it’s a very small island and there’s no one else mad enough to do this with me lol
Yeah I have never felt the foil (even a 1800) in paddling flat. Btw, I get this blisters too and bottom of my feet, even with booties

Wish I had some waves to help me but this is pure human power.
@@henryhester1897 I’ve seen your feet damage. Looks very painful
@@heliboy999fly doesn’t hurt.
Great efort very close now
Its definitely workable with the kit you have its just timing practice practice practice 😉

@@elliottaylor8344not easy when concentration is 100% staying upright.
@heliboy999fly it wouldn't be fun if it was easy I'm still trying to get my winging gybes consistent lol
@@elliottaylor8344 after 4 years I got my first foiling foot chance yesterday. Probably another 4 years till the next lol
Super! Attention Ton strap te fait mettre ton pied non centré. Cela va te déséquilibrer quand tu auras décollé
Really interesting point.
So is it better to just glass in a single offset strap? As it looks like one paddles up on a favoured side only correct?

Thanks for doing these videos. I am going to order the curve 6XL-H and give that a try. What foil are you on? Also if ypu dont mind, what watch is that, looks like it coukd be helpful - thanks
@@clowngrowl2671
I’m on the Sirus 5XL.
It was biggest available at the time and since I’ve heard the Curves are really good. Lots of success stories and I think it’s maybe slightly easier to learn on.
I use the Apple Watch with the “Waterspeed” app. It’s pretty good for measuring your progress.
What board are you going to use?
I started with a casey elite 7'3" but jumped to a 8'6" Stinger Stealth this year. Been on the GoFoil 2600 and I am making some progress, no lift off yet, but I want to give the Gong Curve a try. A flatwater paddle up has become my white whale -
@@clowngrowl2671 well you m not there yet but from my progress recently it’s actually the basics. Forward plant of the paddle, efficient stroke, lean forward, don’t try to bounce too hard too early. Work the legs and get fitter. Get a GPS and see speeds with different stages. Also, get some film. It really helps to see what’s right and wrong
Hi Lee.
Can you link to the paddle purchase? I too can’t get things easily here in the Philippines

@@heliboy999fly omg 😳 600 bucks before shipping. That’s crazy
I’m telling you, a few (4-5) days with Jeremy Riggs in Maui would do you so good.
@@henryhester1897 Too far to go and taking my foil and board would be almost impossible. I have considered it but at the moment I have what I have to work with.
I’d love to share all this with a paddle buddy. It gets so boring alone.

Your paddle looks to short. Head high? Eyebrows? 2” over head???
@@henryhester1897 it’s an inch above my height.
Henry what’s the ideal length while still off foil ? And what’s a great paddle to learn on? Thank you 🙏 for any link or purchase advice
