Sorry I couldn’t find/include even more details on finding the best rpm. I’ve found it can be a challenge, running to much rpm overheats the compressor greatly reducing life span.
MyEyesBled I have zero complaints on the electric motor from HF, it's working flawlessly. I wish I had added more info on actually calculating the pulley sizes, I used free online calculator.
here's another trick the phone will play on you. As well and couldn't find nothing this week I look for pulley size and this guy puts it all on one video This is just too funny thanks a lot for putting it all in one video I appreciate it👍
thankyou this was useful for pulley size. ihave a problem with my compressor pump though i couldnt find what rpm the pump is supposed to turn but the same manufacturer lists rpm of 3000 on the rest of the range which seems high compared to yours but maybe older ones are slower rpm i guess?
I agree the information is hard to find sometimes, the best ones have it engraved or cast into the pulley on the compressor. A compressor should have its pulley then it’s easier to set the rpm. I’d compare your setup to similar size etc compressor to see if 3000 rpm is close. JD
Buddy new electric motors arent supposed to sound like that.. supposed to be smooth and quiet under no load.. somethings loose on the mounting or has a washer rattling otherwise the rotors not properly balanced....
clort123 Good point, I wasn’t very happy with how this video turned out. I hate the fact many manufacturers of these pumps don’t put any information on the pumps on the intended RPM. I didn’t do well on this one, I hope you were able to find out the intended RPM for your setup! 👍👍👍
Hi fantastic video, one question i have a air compressor i have taken the three-phase motor off it run at 14/25 rpm but the electric motor i am putting on there runs at 2800 rpm, the pulley on the compressor is 350mm across what size pulley would i need on the electric motor to get it to run at 1425 thank you
Farmer2492 See if this link will help get your setup going. It may require a pulley change on both the motor and compressor I’m just not sure. JD www.blocklayer.com/pulley-belteng.aspx
Daniel Escobedo The part I don't understand is the compressor itself doesn't have any information stamped on it anywhere indicating what RPM you're suppose to use. Seems like important information! JD
This video helped me out a lot! I'm going to be powering up a vacuum pump (for a septic truck) with a 40hp Kohler engine with an electric clutch, with a 5" pulley on it. Vacuum pump has to run at 800-1150 rpm (1000 rpm average). Too slow or too fast will damage my pump. For my application, I will need a 14" pulley on my pump. Hopefully, my pto clutch holds up! This video made it happen for me. Thanks!
redbaron2448 Good question, I'd assume just measure the outside distance then convert to mm. There are free online converters to convert measurements. Good luck
Larry Fine This video wasn’t as complete as I wanted it to be. I could have done more research and added links etc. this was a spur of the moment video. Thanks for the kind words I appreciate it! Thanks for watching! JD
If you can stand all the rambling on go to the 5:00 mark before he rambles on about what the title says
Yeah not the best video, there’s not much interest in working on a compressor most people choose to buy a new one. JD
You the man!!!
Thank you brother

So how's the HF motor holding up?

HeadFlowInc I need a new motor for my compressor... thanks for the feedback!

Yeah, but you also have to know what your compressor pump is capable of running
It’s supposed to be provided with the compressor most of them have it printed on the actual casting

4 years later it’s still working great, hopefully it keeps on working. Thanks for looking out for me! Stay tuned! JD
Why is the video half about wiring? I came here to learn about pulleys

3600 (rpm of motor) ÷ 10 (diameter of pulley on compressor) x 2.5 (size of pulley on motor) = 900 RPM

What a waste of time you did not explain exactly how to do that measure pulley size and motor and where is this online calculator thing ?

Thank you
how do you measure a supercharged pulley to see what size it is for example 90 mm 85 mm or 77mm

Some good information regardless of what the trolls say. Good link to that pulley calculator. will bookmark that one.
