More detail ! Loads of channels I watched used to put in detail and thoughts and problems they had encountered. Now they just seem to throw lots of premade parts at cars. Loving the channel, its what most of us would be doing. It helps us too.
I think the hot side is the one coming out of the turbo, as it hasn't yet passed the intercooler to cool the air charge down. Keep the excellent work rolling! Greetings from Greece.
My Godson, now 15 yrs of age, will get an MX5 as his 18:th Birthday. So inspired by these hacks... Forecast is Godson's Miata will be a properly upgraded one. Thxalot for sharing involving & inspiring 👌
I have been waiting for this video to drop! When you first said you were super excited to mount the catch can I was like, "why". Then I saw your mount plan and was like, "Oh hell yeah I'd be excited too!" Looks awesome!
When I first seen motorcycle swapped Miata I expected to see a hack job when I dove further in , I’m pleased to see it’s far from , love the fab work and car interesting build for sure keep killin it !
one thing you can do to make it sound even better is to make "steps" in the exhaust header. basically the pipe diameter should deviate from section to section. small big small big small big. doesnt have to be a big step but itll break up the soundwaves. this is what made shumachers f1 in like 2008 sound as good as it does. these steps break up the pressure wave and in turn the soundwaves released by the valve opening. this makes the rumble disapear almost completely and raises the tone of the exhaust note. with each step the big wave is broken up slightly, sending a smaller wave back to the engine wich helps purge the cylinder more completely, after bouncing off the piston this pressure wave moves towards the turbo again. breaking up the presure wave also means a more gradual spinning up of the turbo i imagine. in single cylinders with turbo's you need a resevoir on the exhaust almost like an expansion chamber on a 2 stroke to even out the pulse so the turbo doesnt pulse faster slower faster slower. on a more agressive camshaft, wich from what ive heard is not good for a turbo, the exhaust pressure wave can travel all the way into the intake pulling some extra fresh mixture into the cylinder at the last moment. i understand you are very far into this build already so if you dont want to change it or are fine with how the exhauts sounds then thats understandable. just see this as advice/info for your next motorcycle engine powered project i guess :). btw i see that you already have merge collecter looking thing this already makes the sound much better than the stock pipe that bike probably had, the most efficient angle foor f1 style sounds is between like 8 to 18 degrees or so.
Your videos are getting pretty good, audio is way better than the previous ones too. Love the additional detail and explanations. ps. Add some background music to fill in the empty spots.
Beautiful stuff man. Very well done on the video style. No vlog bullshit just straight to the point. This is the first build I’m actually following ever since I came across your channel a few weeks ago
I commented on two of your other videos that I thought you were a genius…..but I think I should say instead, in terms of clarity, you are an artist. Just….i don’t have the words man.
I'll need to check out that catch can from improved racing once I revisit that with one of my projects. It definitely seems to be an... improved... design over my existing one. I like the design of the one you showcased much better. I have some of their other products as well and I do like them very much.
I love how casual/humble you are about creating works of art from scratch. I was half expecting you in the video to go “the NB chassis isn’t as stiff as I would like, so I made my own chassis” 😂😂 Wish I had skills like this, if I ever get hood rich I will pay you to make one of these for me 🤙🤣
I'm loving these videos. Super awesome build, and you're presenting it really well. By the way, something that crossed my mind while watching this is that, if you're considering renaming your channel, ReedFab would be a good choice. Rolls off the tongue a bit better than 'Reed make car" 😂 Edit - Also, some subtle smooth Jazz would make for nice background music during voiceovers and timelapses :)
Hope you cleaned out that intercooler after chopping it up. Also, if you have bigger sway bars you need some sway bar braces for the front so the sway bar mount brackets don't just bend and take up all the torsional force
Looks great and all the attention to detail that most manufacturing doesn't care enough about. wtf....anyway, great welding tech and all the tools you need to do it. Wish I could too. Never enough time or the great shop space to....
I think you should do some more research on hot side and cold side… the hot side is the charge pipe coming off the turbo, because that air is inherently hot from the turbo, and the cold side is the side going to the intake manifold, because the air has been cooled by the intercooler. Other than that good job
Sick. That end tank welding was dc something to be proud of. Hot side is the exhaust manifold to turbo and out. Cold side is all of what you were making ie turbo to intercooler to intake.
Amazing videos, not sure anyone has mentioned it before but I want to preface this by saying this is 100% meant to be constructive criticism, if you looked into how to do better voice overs or even just recorded the audio as things get done I believe this channel would blow up very quickly
With the turbo mounted to the chassis, id be worried about the exhaust getting stressed cyclically (welded joints), asthe engine flexes its mounts, and I'd expect exhaust leaks to develop after a while
i know its way too late for this but i would've put a zx14 motor in the car for the extra torque also you can Add a reverse box to that motor with the setup you're using. they use the reverse box in a Campagna TREX. also id see if you can utilize the ram air on this. that would be dope and net u more HP and tq. also definitely a tried and true for turbos on those motors
Awesome build man, I still think you would benefit from a different gearing setup. Especially with the turbo, you will have plenty of torque so the short gearing is only limiting it's potential. This thing could be a rocket with a differential or something like that!
What about a custom headlight ram air intake for the filter? It’s right behind the headlight it seems and I believe the nb headlight highbeam could be modified to make a trumpet like hole in the high beam and leave the low beam for legal reasons.
Amazing work man 👌🏽 Stacking aluminum dimes like that is extra trick 😎 Curious why you refer to the charge pipe after the intercooler as the hot side? Used to hearing this referred to as the cool side since it’s been through the intercooler? and the hot side as the side before the intercooler as it hasn’t been cooled yet? What did I miss?
Don’t know if it’s been mentioned or already thought of but I couldn’t help but notice you are still using the clutch when shifting. I am wondering if the 08 cbr has aftermarket support for a quick shifter with auto blipper. Coming from a 2018 MT09 the quick shifter makes for some very crispy shifts. I don’t have the auto blipper function for the downshifts but newer bikes do. Awesome build though just thought I’d mention this.
Love this build, bro ... how do ya plan on doing turbo manifold? Because im sure u know , a hard mounted turbo that's not attached to the engine will destroy the manifold from the engine moving and turbo not move with the engine.. cant weight to see this thing ripping under some boost and what it will do .. mad respect and props to this build, brotha .. peace and love all, keep it rad, stay safe, and build on..l8r famz and keep having fun
Non-stop fab starts at 1:35
I added more detail in this video- let me know what you think! Thanks for watching
@@ReedMakeCar i like the extra detail. Great job. Keep em coming!

the welds on this build are absolutely amazing,
Thank you 🙏
@@ReedMakeCar maybe over the rad style that's common in 1st gen Miatas? Figure it'll be easier with how much room you have, lol
@slowest_kmiata
Quality skills, informative no-nonsense video structure, and one of the best channel names😂 simply great
That’s what I’m all about 💪 thanks for watching
Please build a box for the filter. So it's not pulling hot air from inside your engine compartment.
or cut a hole in the light
It's an intercooled turbo system. A cold air box wouldn't make any noticable difference in IAT
There's so little stuff in the bay, there's plenty enough air flow to pull heat out especially adding the oversized intercooler.
Hell of a fabricator. Beautiful work.
I think the hot side is the one coming out of the turbo, as it hasn't yet passed the intercooler to cool the air charge down. Keep the excellent work rolling! Greetings from Greece.
Yeah I mixed them up 😅
stacking dimes! great welds! Enjoying watching this come together.

Possibly one of the best youtube series I've seen in a while, can't wait to see what happends to this seriously cool build.
Lookin good Reed, keep up the work, having fun watching along
Yooooo 💪 thanks for watching!
That catch can setup is super legit! amazing work I am excited to hear this run!
Think you got the hot and cold sides mixed up! Don't really make a difference thought!
Now that I think about it.. I sure did 😆
For maximum intake flow, add an X-pipe across the hot-cold sides. The intake scavenging really helps pull in more air!
For the amout of subscribers this channel has some solid production. I really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing Reed!
Love how much this channel has grown in such a short period of time! Had some HUGE help from tdib of course. Keep up the great work!

TLDR for me, but I also vote for a stepped exhaust header @ReedMakeCar

Very interested to see the result of turbocharging. What’s your goal?
200whp and a lot of cool noises 😈
So to reverse the car do you push it back?
Im not saying i know better, but is it ok to use silicone tubing for exhaust? Wont it get too hot?
Do a video showing the drive train man! Is it still chain to an axle? Or did you somehow convert to shaft
He converted it to shart with a custom aluminum adapter it's shown in the "how to motorcycle swap a Miata" video
