I think that they were just closing the deal. Yussa helps M9 now & M9 will come to Yussa's aid later, but it still has a subtly Teacher-Student vibe between the two wizards, were Yussa is telling Caleb that if he earns it, he'll teach him. It's an amazing way to role-play learning new spells when PCs level up in the campaign.
