Qinwen Zheng is clearly unplayable. Not your typical wta gamestyle. Great shot selection, great serve, risk taker, firing balls in clean angles, cool and nice attitude too. She's becoming one of my favorite players. Qinwen said in post-match interview that it's the 'belief' that she'll beat Badosa. Badosa isn’t doing that badly to be fair, she’s 11 in the race. Muguruza seems to be the most streaky modern player who’s won big things. She was out of the top 10 for a few years then made the top 10 in 2021 and winning the WTA Finals and is now having an awful year and is now 47 in the race.
Badosa is really struggling with her game recently. I think she really needs to train her mind to be tough and she really needs to have a plan B if plan A is not working. Hope she will recover.
I believe Zheng will win some. Most tournaments she's joining now are her debut. She was playing mostly in the ITFs where she won 8 of 8 finals. Even Gauff who is currently a top 8 player, and even started WTA way earlier than Zheng has only 2 WTA singles titles.

I feel kind of bad for Badosa: she reached world number 2 off the back of winning Indian Wells, some smaller tournaments and making ONE grand slam quarter-final, and now she has a target on her back that clearly she isn't capable of dealing with. She's a solid player, but Zheng is just one of a host of players with a bigger and better game than hers. Once she's back between 10-20 in the rankings she'll relax and play better again.

As Zheng said in post-match interview "I'm not surprised" simple as that. Why people insist to find a big deal where there's none? I rather a honest player than a script reader. Badosa had no chance before and nothing changed along the match, her service is bad despite her height, she's too passive or inconsistent in rallies, no variation, no speed and clearly no emotional control on court, literally her only chance is against a player that misses more than her like Kenin, for example, the GOAT of unforced errors.
Congratulations to Zheng she's a threat against anybody. It's been a rough few tournaments for Paula Badosa. She's been getting beat by everyone. Badosa, a gracious lady, gave the victor a hug at the net. She's a class act, but the moon and stars were not aligned in her favor in this match. Some how the Asian players find a way, the benefit being in the eyes of the beholders. Fun to be a spectator watching WTA action these days. Oh, yeah!
