Fun fact: The actor playing Darren's dad was actually in the original Heart Break High. his character's name was River which is similar to Spiders Character
I don't think Ca$h was hesitant with Darren because he was worried about risking his heart, I think he was worried about Darren's safety after his conversation with Amerie.
And as far as representation? We have non-binary, ACE, lesbian, questioning (Malaki), spectrum, queer with different interests... I personally think this shows explores the full range of Queer better than almost any other.
Another fun fact: both Darren’s dad and boss were in the original Heartbreak High together and even dated!! Darren’s dad’s name was Peter Rivers and their boss’s name was Chaka. That’s why there’s that whole “YOURE their boss/father?!?!” Thing
a lot of us gen z teens say this is one of the most accurate representation of communication in any show currently. a lot of shows make it cringe or you can just tell it was made by 30 year olds lmao. of course some themes and humor was more dramatized for the effect of the series, but harper's situation was too real as a young girl. the friendship dynamics were done so flawlessly too, love this show and your reactions to it!
I get folks not loving this, but to me it is top tier. It gets messy at times, but really hits some of the things kids really go through in the messy way life gets.
On another note, idk how because Cash is poor. But i sure hope he gets out. I wonder If Harper makes a statement to say he was the one to let her go and won’t press chargers against him if he’ll be let go. I def want more of him as his family. And i hope his grandma is okay.
I really loved Heartbreak High actually, for me it's definitely top-tier- it's a different flavour than say Heartstopper, but I think both are very fun and important series when it comes to representation. I'm hoping we won't have to wait too long for season 2 :D
I can tell you that Harper not reporting her SA is something that's very common (edit: I forgot that she does but her being hesitant and nothing being done without proof). I reported mine 2 years after it happened and nothing was done by police and child services because he was a well known teacher. So i dont blame her at all. And i love the representation that they have with that situation in the show. Its needed and important. I believe they are already filming the second season.
I'm so sorry that happened to you and that it was handled that way. I don't know if it's any help, but at least there's more chance of people being wary of him because you spoke up, and/or keeping an eye on him and his behavior. And if someone comes forward again, he's less likely to be believed.
I agree with Alex, this was a fun, mid-tier show. I have nothing bad to say about it at all. Have I rewatched this series a half dozen times like I have with shows like Heartstopper and Young Royals? No. Will I watch this season again? Probably not. However, when the second season returns, I'll be right on it. I can't wait to see what show you bring us next!!
Thanks gents. Also, as an Australian and an old Millennial, I feel obliged to say that using Strawberry Kisses for Darren and Ca$h's climactic scene was... a choice. Keep up the fine work - looking forward to seeing what's next.
Oh thank god there’s someone else here with a similar background who knows the song! It was a pretty deep cut but the fact that it was so left field made the whole thing feel so camp, I actually kind of loved it hahaha
@@fortross4182 It was a very popular song in Australia in the early 2000s, the singer, Nikki Webster, sang the national anthem at the Sydney olympics. It's just very niche and Australian because our music and pop culture doesn't always filter over to other countries.
We hope you are all excited for this series finale reaction! what are your thoughts about Heart Break High? did you Enjoy? is it good representation for the LGBTQ Community? let us know! xxx
Guys next suggestion as 🏳️🌈 channel is SPOILER ALERT MOVIE ( REAL LIFE STORY OF THE DIRECTOR AND HIS LATE HUSBAND) In from the side. Holding my man ( real life love story )
I absolutely love this show and lapped up both seasons. I find it interesting that you guys use terms like "aggressive", etc. to describe the show when they're just showing the very real heartbreaking nature of our times - interspersed with the fun/sexual/awkward teenage stuff. The abuse that can happen living with an addict, police violence used against people of color/gay folks, living as a person on the spectrum, class/race/gender/identity issues - and how all these wounds ripple through both individuals and the community. I love shows like this that show the messy truth of our lives - a rainbow of individuals flipping over stereotypes, warts (of all types), sexualities or lack thereof, and the reality of growing up in a fucked up world and trying to make any kind of sense of it. So they use a lot of swear words and fingers. An absolutely valid response in my mind to this world. That's exactly why I love this show. And I adore gran!
yeah and even though its melodramatic and a big exaggerated as an autistic asexual gen z in australia it is accurate to the modern teenage experience like ive never seen in modern tv. when they were talking about how these kids are like pretty accepting but still there is police violence etc YES thats what its like, the general culture is going one way while the institutions are going the other and we're all fucked up but we're trying. And just generally yes no shit teenagers are messy and vulgar and deal with their pain in unhealthy ways! and often the worst shit in my peers lives is not teenage drama its mental illness, childhood trauma, poverty, disability, institutional descrimination etc which this series shows so well, like yes theres teenage drama which can be or feel very serious but theres also so much other shit going on
Fun fact - the actress who played harper was shaving her real hair in the bathroom scene. She then used a wig to shoot the flashback scenes of her (and amerie) at the festival and of the rest of that night etc
I have to tell you both that I absolutely adore your comments because you're funny when you're supposed to be but you manage to dig deeper and make intelligent, relevant analysis. you are wonderful.
I love this show so much, can't wait for the second season. I am only worried about the consequences of the car trashing, it's 21st century, there are cameras everywhere =/
I absolutely love this show. It might not be the best queer representation, but if I were to pick a show for the best Gen Z representation, it would definitely be this show.
literally in love with this show! loved ur commentary! i recommend watching the polish movie Fanfic - it came out earlier this year and it is has some AMAZING trans and queer rep, the entire plotline revolves around a trans guy. It's not the best film in terms of a substantial plot, but it's focus on transgender and queer representation is absolutely wonderful and as a trans guy myself I felt like it was a great depiction of the trans experience and how others react to it. The movie is also quite beautiful itself, plus the representation is even more amazing when you consider the fact that it was made in Poland, which is currently quite a queerphobic country. luv you guys!!
I think they did a really good representation of a general overview of how gen z tends to behave and think, although I personally wasn't a fan of how they brushed over Harper's home situation and further more Ant's but I can appreciate how they kept it real enough where none characters were like, 'oh yeah im just like super traumatised'/'ive just got all this trauma'
Amerie was way too forgiving imo. I can see Harper being angry and maybe even ending their friendship because Amerie left her at the festival. But the silent treatment, the physical violence, hooking up with Dusty, taking advantage of Malakai (after what she went through?!)...thats just too much. What she experienced was horrifying but the way she behaved towards Amerie wasn't justified.
Yeah she took everything out on her. Their friendship seems to have an imbalance. Amerie is the giver in this scenario I think that’s why Harper had such an extreme reaction for her “letting her down”. None of what happened to Harper was Ameries fault and even her letting her down after seeing spider their all of it made sense from Ameries. Harper on the other hand non of it is justified in regards to Amerie especially her hooking up with both boys that Amerie liked what kind of ish that.
I love your videos. I'm just not sure if it's smart to show the climax of the video in the first seconds. I often only watch reaction videos to build up to the climax and then be surprised how they react. You take that mystery in the first seconds. Maybe you could show the moment before the climax, but I don't think people watch more of the video if the most anticipated part with all the excitement is taken from them at the beginning of the video. Again, love your videos, but I just can't ignore that part.
Yes, you can understand Harper better after this episode, but you can also understand Spiders character so much better after this. He was embarrassed in front of his crush and she just loughed. She wouldn't even tell her best friend, because she dosen't see Spider as a real dating option. She feels like she is so much better then him.
honestly im pretty on the fence about darren and ca$h as a couple, simply because darren clearly enjoys sex and ca$h doesnt... i would love both the story where they make it work but also the story where they realize that some people just arent compatible, so im excited to see where it goes
Hey guys, my comment is late but i hope you see this. It would be lovely if you reacted to Papa and Daddy. It is a taiwanese show that focuses on a married gay couple with a kid. Would love to see your reaction to it♥️♥️♥️♥️
Wow. From episode one there was this suggestion that her secret would justify all of the harm and evil she did throughout and this was NOT it. Indeed, even now, she would not acknowledge her fault in creating all of the horrors throughout the season, treating it all as some comical outcome of unfortunate circumstances.
what harper went through was disgusting but treating Amerie like worse than shit and not even apologizing after becoming friends again is annoying and makes me start to not like harper
Fun fact: The actor playing Darren's dad was actually in the original Heart Break High. his character's name was River which is similar to Spiders Character
I had such a huge crush on Rivers back in the day.
I think it was RiverS. As in Darren Rivers
His name was/is Peter rivers **
That and he date his son’s boss in high school.
I became so emotional when I realized Darren was Ca$h's reason for staying in school!!
Another fun fact: both Darren’s dad and boss were in the original Heartbreak High together and even dated!! Darren’s dad’s name was Peter Rivers and their boss’s name was Chaka. That’s why there’s that whole “YOURE their boss/father?!?!” Thing
yea they dated as well
@@realemmcee yeah I know that’s why I said it haha
Their relationship was low-key kinda like Missy and spiders, everyone in the new show is kinda like someone from the og.
a lot of us gen z teens say this is one of the most accurate representation of communication in any show currently. a lot of shows make it cringe or you can just tell it was made by 30 year olds lmao. of course some themes and humor was more dramatized for the effect of the series, but harper's situation was too real as a young girl. the friendship dynamics were done so flawlessly too, love this show and your reactions to it!

what's the deal with strawberry kisses if you don't mind explaining?

I didn’t think that I’d get all the way through this series. I made it thanks to you both.
9-1-1 lone star next? There are 4 seasons, even if not reviewed it's worth a watch.
I fucking love how they put let it happen for the car scene, I swear that it made it 100 times better
