Johnny gives Lara a huge gift by inviting her to his show at the Stade de France in 1998 for 3 nights!!! He loved Lara and he wanted her to demonstrate her vocal power and shine in front of 80,0000 people. Johnny in all his generosity.... On this third and last performance the sound of Lara's microphone is in her favor, it was at maximum (it resonated..) and Johnny's was lower.. It was Johnny who asked that it be done like that. Lara herself confirmed it. Know that Johnny was a vocal power too, but in this last performance he did not want because it was done on purpose, Johnny was very intelligent in doing that to make the song more dramatic and show their acting on this magnificent song that belongs to him. The desired goal was the dramatic side of the singing all in power but less than Lara (Johnny) with both next to him a more striking singing power (Lara) and the passionate play between the two. Everything was imagined by Johnny himself to end this last interpretation in beauty. And on top of that, this miraculous rain to make it a masterpiece, perhaps the most beautiful duet in the world.🎉💥💫

Thanks for your reaction, I love how you live and feel the music and the singers performances.
To respond to your bewilderment, here are a fews hints about this song.
This song was initialy written as a solo, not a duet.
The song is the story of a man about to lose the woman he loved and who killed her because he couldn't stand loosing her. Then he fled and the police went after him. That song tells the moment when the police is going to catch him, and he has decided that he will not get caught but he will die because he can't live without her anyways.
So in the original, the man compares himself with a beast hunted by hunters and dogs who are after him to kill him.
For this duet, the lyrics have beeen slightly changed and it's made to be a sort of Bonnie and Clyde story.
You can imagine they are totally crazy, totally in love, both ready to be killed rather than being separated.
You can imagine they've done illegal and pretty bad stuff together, and that is why they are surrounded by cops.
They accept their fate and they just ask for this one last night together before they both get killed.
Johnny, who was already a super star at the time, invited Lara on that specific song even though she was not yet a big big star because he said she was the only female singer he knew who was crazy, intense and powerful enough to do this song with him.
This performance is quite legendary in french speaking countries, and you can easily see why :-)

Enjoyed your reaction to this masterpiece. As an acting/performance coach you will probably not see many better passionate dramatic duet-performances performed live on stage in your life. This performance in the Stade de France is legendary in French/European music history, an amazing and unique performance by the brilliant Lara Fabian (one of the highlights of her career she has said) and Johnny Hallyday.

    Stage beasts duet.
Lara was just starting to be known to the general public (not starting her career mind you) in France and she was slaying her vocals unbridled. The best years in my book.
Johnny actually put Lara on a pedestal those evenings (per Lara’s own testimony), by accompanying her vocally and not trying to take any of the spotlight. Lara was super grateful of him for that. And I think she’s done the same anytime she’s sung with newcomer artists.
Even though, she could overcome her partner vocally, she’s adjusting her power to let the other one shine.

I'm happy that you finally look and react at this video. This was an epic moment in front of an audience of 82,000 people. Johnny was a Legend in France and had a great admiration for Lara's talent and he already told her "you are me in a girl". Lara was still in her early days in France and she said Johnny had cut her short by giving her an opportunity to perform 3 nights in a row in front of over 80,000 people. It was by no means her intention to try to compete with Lara, but rather to let her take all the space she could during the performance. She mentioned that it was one of the most memorable moments of her career.

Ok I will try to give the full context:
Johnny : the most admired singer in France from early 60s to 2017 when he died. He is the Elvis of France, sold more than 110M records WW. A real power house, here the mics were balanced to favor Lara as he wanted her to shine.
The song: this is an anthem song for him, that he used to sing alone. This was turned into a duet for Lara. The story of the song was created in reference to a very famous old french classic movie: Le Jour se Leve (1939) where the main character is barricaded and surrounded by the police ( and the dogs 😀), having killed his girlfriend.
The venue/event: Johnny’s concert in Stade de France ( biggest stadium in Paris and France) in front of 80,000. Lara was the surprise special guest. They did perform this 3 times in a row.
Lara: she was at the beginning of her career in France and this performance became legendary and accelerated her fame there.

Lol, "and the dogs". That made me laugh just a B's "why are there dogs?!?" comment during the performance.
You give an excellent summary of the story for those of us who don't know the context. Thank you.
And thank you for the context of the concert and teaching us about Johnny, too. Out of curiosity, is Hallyday is real name? Or is it a stage name? It doesn't sound French to my English ears but maybe it's one of those names that all those wars with England over centuries brought with it?

    • @arkasonus7678
      @arkasonus7678 2 роки тому +4

@@stephanieellis5399 his real name is Jean-Philippe Smet.
Hallyday is the name of an American cousin (Lee Halliday/Hallyday) who also was his first producer.
And at this time, American stage names where common for young French musicians, especially when it comes to rock'n'roll (seen as an American music).

A legend... Johnny Hallyday was born on Tuesday, June 15, 1943, in Paris and passed away on the night of December 5 to 6, 2017, in Paris at the age of 74. He is the son of a Belgian father and a French mother. In 57 years of career, he recorded around 1300 songs. 180 songs were turned into music videos or scopitones. 758 authors and composers collaborated with Johnny. Johnny composed 105 songs himself and also composed about ten pieces for other artists. He also wrote and co-wrote a few songs. Johnny also has 545 duets with 188 different artists on 214 tracks. His first 45 RPM record was released on March 14, 1960, but it was on December 30, 1959, that he was heard for the first time on the radio in the show "Paris cocktail." On April 18, 1960, under the "patronage" of Line Renaud, he made his first television appearance in "L'école des vedettes." 57 years later, 93 certifications including 41 gold records, 4 double gold records, 23 platinum records, 8 double platinum records, 5 triple platinum records, and 12 diamond records (including one double diamond and one triple diamond) testify to an exceptional career, crowned by 10 Victoires or special Victoires or Victoires d'honneur of music. And 2 NRJ Music Awards. Johnny is the most acclaimed French artist and the one who has sold the most records in France. The number of units sold is estimated at 200 million, including more than 110 million records sold. Imagine if he had had an international career... With 805,000 sales in one week of "Mon pays c'est l'amour" (51st album) (posthumous album), Johnny was ranked No. 1 worldwide in 2018. A stage beast recognized by all, Johnny went on more than 184 tours and attracted nearly 30 million spectators throughout his career, having given more than 3502 concerts. Johnny is the only French artist whose almost complete works have been recorded in audio and video. About twenty fan clubs (approximately 10,000 members in total). Johnny is also an actor with no less than 43 films (including appearances) to his credit throughout his career. He received a "Jean Gabin" award in 2004 for the film "L'homme du train". Johnny was a good actor, but the films they offered him were not good films, unfortunately.. He dreamed of being an actor and not a singer, but life had other plans, and fortunately so!! Johnny was a great friend of animals, he always had dogs in his life, the animal cause was close to his heart, in 2002 he performed a magnificent song against those who abandon their animals. The song is titled "Au bord des routes" from the magnificent album "À la vie à la mort." In 2016, a year before his death, he was on a motorcycle road trip with friends on American roads, and it was then that he found an abandoned puppy by the side of the road. He couldn't resist and adopted her; the little dog is named "Cheyenne."
He also sang a song that evokes the brutal repression by Chinese authorities of the Tiananmen Square protests in June 1989; the song is titled "Tienanmen" from 1991. He was a man with a big heart. He was made a knight of the Legion of Honor in 1997, he has also been an officer of the Order of the Crown since 2001, but above all, he has been a knight of the Arts and Letters since 1995. He has sung in several languages.(Anglais, italien, espagnol, turc, japonais et allemand). By listening to his songs, you will realize that this great singer was capable of singing anything. There is something for everyone: rock'n'roll, rhythm and blues, soul, psychedelic rock, soft rock, pop rock, rockabilly, country, a rock opera album (Hamlet) from 1976.(This album was ahead of its time). A unique voice... His voice has continued to evolve over the years, becoming more and more powerful and precise. Johnny can be compared to the greatest singers in the world!! He brought together the rich, the less wealthy, and the poor. He brought together several generations. He gave exceptional concerts, with wild entrances like at the Parc des Princes in 1993, entering from the back of the stadium and parading through the crowd for three consecutive nights. (no one had done that before him). and he did it again in 2013 at Bercy, in 1998 he arrived by helicopter above the Stade de France, in 1984 at the Zenith he emerged from a giant hand (they had to break a wall to get the hand above the stage), in 2012 at the Stade de France he arrived in a giant flying ball resembling a mine, which landed on stage, and so on. Here are some songs:

This was performed in an open stadium, so if I not mistaken, the rain is real and it was not warm, as you can see his breath at one point. Also FYI Floor Jansen of Nightwish just released the live performance of Sweet Curse from her solo show in Amsterdam in a duet with the very well known musical theatre singer in the Netherlands Henk Poort. It is a song from when she was in her previous band ReVamp and is like a rockier version of a musical theatre song.

It is a kind of Bonnie and Clyde vibe, November 1998 at the Stade De France - Johnny's concert had 36 tracks, 5 duets ONE was with Lara. The concert had been at least once delayed due to very heavy rain. This was in much lighter rain.
Johnny - who was once called "the French Elvis" - released Requiem Pour Un Fou in 1976 - the song spent four consecutive weeks at no. 1 on the singles sales chart in France (from 4 to 31 March 1976)
Sadly Jonny who was born in 1943 died aged 74 in in 2017. He had five diamond albums, 40 gold albums, 22 platinum albums and earned ten Victoires de la Musique.

Dear Brandon you always focus on adorable Lara, so let me tell you a few facts about Johnny to help you imagine his popularity. Because I have seen some reactors underestimating him and asking "who is this guy". He had a 57y career (1960-2017), he was a rock star, he is described as Elvis of Europe, that rainy night 90.000 fans came to the stadium to see him which is a record for a French artist (I don't know if the concert was repeated in the next days), I don't remember details about people's behaviour when he died, all I remember is that 3(!) French presidents attended his funeral and the first album about him released a few months after he passed away had 800.000 sales in the first three days which was and still is a worldwide record

Some people can think the gestures are exaggerated. You have to put in context. This is a live concert in a stadium with 90 000 crowd public, in a rainy day. You have to do this so anyone can get the message.
About the song, it is based on a french movie from 1939. " Le jour se leve" , in english it is called " daybreak or " day raise".
With famous french actor: Jean Gabin. It is a story of a guy who killed somebody because of love and now, at sun rise, the police is going to storm his apartment and kill him. In flashback , we see how the all story happended.

So it's not just my personal bias toward Lara, that makes me go insane when she appears on the stage... I mean I get Johnny Hallyday is a legend, but it's her who brings the soul here. There is something about this whole performance, that makes it completely epic in my eyes. No idea what it is, I don't understand anything about music, or theater or acting. Still the music, their voices, their personalities or the body language or the combination of everything - the sheer power of it... make me think I am observing something very, very special. I love it. Makes me think of my favourite loves stories it brings the same feeling, with actors who makes you believe they are actually inlove and in a way you go through whatever they are going through.

hello, Johny Hallyday is dead now, and was a show master in France, rocky voice well known, and you add to him Lara Fabian with NO AUTOTUNES , just real singing, real singing, the magic of a real voice, a great singer with singing techniques mastered to perfection
I have few things to say about this video.
Some people can think the gestures are exaggerated. You have to put in context. This is a live concert in a stadium with 90 000 peoples, in a rainy day. You have to do this, so anyone can get the message.

I have been a Lara Fabian fan since the late 90s and watching your reaction videos give me such joy. You've shown me a new way to enjoy her performances. Did you know she did a series of essentially short films for her album Mademoiselle Zhivago? Here's a link to the collection. They are outstanding. My personal favourite is Desperate Housewife. Here's a link to that single video: ua-cam.com/video/Qk9qW8Pvf1o/v-deo.html I think you'll want to do a reaction video to these. Her acting is totally on point, as is her voice. Enjoy!!!

Hello Brandon, thanks for this new reaction from Lara. You might want to react to one of her less popular songs but one of my favorites. The emotion and commitment to the song and lyrics are there 100%. It is not a live performance but more of video clip on the recording of the song at the studio. ua-cam.com/video/mFf12SjZrDM/v-deo.html. I love it.

They were surrounded by police. He was warning them that he would kill her for love, because he was a “madman” for love. Hence, lights strobing and the shaking camera were the police, but he says essentially that they both will die of love. (As a paid lyricist, it’s a bit disappointing that no one seems to read them.) P.S. I’d like to hear the BeeGees. They are way too over-looked. Super reaction. Thanks.

Hi from France! Translation wasn't great! I guess you got the story by now!? I understand it's difficult to read and listen at the same time! It's the story of an outlaw, he's hiding with his love in a house and the police is surrounding them. So he says he loves her so much he killed her to keep her with him.. She says she'd rather die than be apart from him..
I hope you watch and react to Stromae's interview on French 1st national channel called TF1. He was amazing! And surprising, as usual! He's Belgian, but i guess you've heard of him! He's world famous because his music has no frontiers and he's very creative.

Understand that Johnny Hallyday did not force his powerful voice because he wanted to highlight his guest Lara Fabian that evening. Ok this duet was awesome, but personally I think the real female singer who looks like Johnny was Tina Turner and it would have been magical for them to do a duet but ...

The Guy is just a shadow of Lara. His voice has not really a "body" and sounds harsh and without emotion. Sorry! He really tried but didn't effect me emotionally at all.
Lara, well, I prefer her more dynamic and soft pieces even if she kills it with her powerful vocals in this piece of music. But have you watched the concert "from Lara with Love" then you have seen her wide range of singing ability and that concert is just epic! Thanks for sharing!

A shadow who sang lower than his guest (Lara) on purpose because she was a newcomer in France. A shadow that is the idol of Lara. A shadow who sold over 100 million albums (80 millions more than Lara), a shadow with a concert over one million people at Paris Eiffel Tower, a shadow who sold out many concerts in 80000 people stadiums, a shadow who brought his friend Jimi Hendrix for his first trip to France with the Jimi Hendrix band, a shadow who had over one million people standing in the streets at his funeral with all the honors and under several former French presidents watch, a shadow whose death is honored by his friends Lara Fabian, Celine Dion, Charles Aznavour etc, and hommage because of his death by stars like stars like Metallica, Mariah Carey, Capitol Orchestra, etc. He influenced the life of millions (couples making babies, musicians, bikers, actors) for over 50 years in French speaking countries (France, Belgium, Canada, Luxembourg, etc) with his songs.
Some of the best music composers world wide wrote for him during his 50 year career.
